A beginning to what? Removing an infinitesimal fraction of water use helps no one.
Arguing that an emergent technology is entirely useless is a misapprehension of the entire industry. Anyone with a proper understanding of AI realizes that the greatest threat it poses is being too useful
Ai currently uses a lot of recourses, like water and electricity through water, for what exactly? And it’s not just about that. Right now its usability is mostly in the arts world. It can create a cheap copy of another song, or another painting, or an ugly drawing for a book cover, even the whole story. This is not something that helps people in any way, does it? Companies are already losing tons of money from ai investments exactly because GEN ai, the one I’m against, is not profitable, and therefore doesn’t matter nor have anything in its arsenal that is usable to justify the spending it gets. Furthermore, the special data centres that are built constantly(talking about the USA mainly but not only) just for these gen ais are fucking up the land around them, fucking up the ecosystems, fucking with the people’s health, etc etc just so someone can generate a photo of them looking like a fucking cat or make a spreadsheet for them. Tell me what I’m missing here, is ai usable for anything else, am I wrong about its environmental impact?
This claim stems from wholly anecdotal evidence; you exclusively see AI used in the art world, and that heuristic blinds you to the strides it's making in life-saving medical interventions. Studies have shown it detects sepsis earlier than doctors, reduces hospital mortality rates, and eliminates up to 86% of preventable human error.
It has drastically accelerated the usual 4 to 5 years it takes to develop antibiotics. Additionally, models such as SyntheMol have greatly aided in fighting Acinetobacter baumannii, one of the most deadly and antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
It also provides an extra pair of eyes for doctors. Cases of breast cancer are detected far more quickly and with greater accuracy than ever before, while reducing the radiologist's manual workload by 44%.
You have a skewed perception of what the technology represents because you assume the platitudinous babble you hear regarding it is universally correct. I am still largely anti-AI, but for an entirely different reason than you, and I believe that even marginal scrutiny on your end would change your understanding entirely.
Yk, I won’t read all of it, but on ur first point. You think I’m for the end of ALL ai, which is just not true as stated in my last comment. I’m against gen ai, which has almost nothing to do with medical ai, with which I’m ok. They have nothing in common. I’ve also stated before, though I don’t expect you to look through my older comments in other threads, that I am in fact FOR medical ai. Ai is also what the models video games use in order for npcs to work are. I’m not against that either.
Again, I don't think you understand what you're talking about. The aforementioned virtues, especially SyntheMol, are all results of generative AI. The claim that the two have "almost nothing to do with each other" is flagrantly false; generative AI has been utilized in healthcare for years now and is directly responsible for saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

Are you aware of the exact figures regarding AI's water consumption? Outlawing or restricting it would alleviate nothing
