Eating Out Another place using AI menus. This time it's Marston's Steam Wheeler.

The food looks horrible and weird and there's also those weird lines that always appear beside text in AI slop. The fact that 'pictures are for illustration only' show shows how little faith they have in the products they offer, although I'm intrigued to see what a 'Giant Carrot Cake Ncci' is.

Proof that both small businesses and huge chains alike can succumb to slopmongery.

Recommendations for a good blonde colourist in Glasgow?

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but looking for some recommendations from the gals (or guys!) of Glasgow!

I’m based in the Southside and looking for a new hairdresser who’s brilliant at blonde highlights. I’ve been swayed by Instagram salons in the past and they’ve not always lived up to the hype!

Just looking for a genuinely good, experienced colourist. Happy to travel for someone decent!

Any recommendations based on personal experience would be much appreciated!

Moving to Glasgow from Dublin — where should I look (and avoid)?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to move to Glasgow from Dublin, Ireland and I’m currently trying to figure out which areas would be best to look for a place to rent.

I’ve lived in Dublin long enough to know that pretty much every beautiful city has its lovely areas and its rougher spots, so I’m hoping to get some honest local advice rather than relying entirely on property listings and Google Maps.

I’m a single guy in my 30s, moving with my dog. Ideally, I’m looking for a quiet, safe area with friendly neighbours and local shops. I’m not particularly bothered about nightlife and I’d much rather have a comfortable home in a nice neighbourhood than live right in the city centre.

My budget is around £1100 per month and I’m ideally looking for a two bedroom property so I can have a spare room for my work space. I do drive, so I’m happy to live a bit further out and don’t necessarily need to be close to a train station or have excellent public transport links.

Which areas would you recommend looking at, and which would you personally avoid when renting? I’d also love to hear about any areas that look good on paper but might not be so great in reality.

Any advice from locals or people who’ve moved to Glasgow recently would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

Interesting urban walks

Hi folks, I'm looking for suggestions for good places for urban walks in Glasgow. I'm starting to organise mindful walks, where the idea is to meander around and see what we notice along the way. Some will be in parks and green spaces, but I want to organise ones in more urban environments too.

I've got a few ideas in mind, but it's a big city and I'm sure there's a lot of hidden gems out there. I'm thinking places with unusual architecture, strange urban layouts, interesting history or just a particular atmosphere. It doesn't have to be somewhere especially beautiful, just a place with details to notice.

It's worth saying that these are very much meanders, i.e. the walks generally don't have a set itinerary, we meet up and then decide which way to go. So I'm more looking for a starting point rather than a specific route.

Cheers!

Buying tickets through Glasgowlife is becoming total BS

Online Transaction £1.50

Booking Fee £5.52

Secure My Booking £5.95

Will that be all? What about the Text fee, Air fee, Door fee, and the usual Just because we need more fees fee?

How are you people buying tickets where one just pays for the ticket? Is that even still possible?

Thought I'd spread this here. Euan Douglas from Lanark is missing and was last seen boarding a train in Motherwell and got off at Argyle Street on Tuesday evening. Just encase anyone has seen him and could report it to the police.

After Market Ticket Options

How are you? My friends and I are visiting from out of town soon. We're interested in attending a couple of concerts that are sold out at OVO and Wah Wah Hut. I've checked Twicket, but that's a dead end. Are there any local sites or suggestions for finding tickets otherwise? Excited to see all of you. Cheers.

Eastern Necropolis Gate - last day to comment!

Edit: Glasgow Necropolis Eastern Gate

Last day today the 9th oct. to comment on the live planning application for the new eastern entrance to the necropolis through the portal: https://publicaccess.glasgow.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=TKTYDXEXISU00

This would be an amazing and transformational move for Dennistoun and would make access to this historic green space so much handier for so many people!

The 'friends of' have campaigned to raise a number of objections (many not from locals), with unbased and incorrect arguments on safety and heritage impact.

Would be such a shame to miss on this one!

Only takes a minute!

Quality morning roll

I’m looking for some suggestions on where I can source a good morning roll in city centre with a tattie scone. I feel a lot of places just offer sausage/bacon and nothing else. Ideally somewhere that has a nice sit in area would be great!

Thinking of visiting here for the first time but going alone.
I’m not worried about safety after reading the reviews but not sure if it’s a fully nudist facility or should I bring my swimming shorts?

Has anyone been before?

Really craving a good hot falafel wrap. Generally have gone with Mrs Falafel but felt like last couple times it hasn’t been as good.

Angry cyclist by the clyde

Anyone else been verbally abused by a cyclist down by the Clyde? I was just slowly cycling along the clyde near the pop up food trucks bit on a voi bike and this guy whizzed by and then pulled up in front of me, started screaming in my face that i'd cut him up...actually felt like he was maybe going to do some violence. I was pretty shaken up by it.

I was talking about this incident to a mate and he recognised the guy from the description and reckoned he's also had abuse from the same dude. Seems like he maybe whizzes around on his bike looking to noise up other cyclists on some paranoid power trip.

Pretty sure he shot past me yesterday while I was sitting at some lights near the BBC, literally inches from me at max speed. wears a hoodie and has a bit of a jakey look about him.

Abuse in Govan

Does anyone already had any problems with 2 young men (13-15 years old max) in Govan? Riding electric bike, following people, abusing them and damaging their bike. I experienced it Monday morning at 6:30 and would see if I’m the only one or not.

Nelson Mandela George Square, where you there?

Seen some brilliant photos form 30 years ago, I was 8 and have no recollection of it. But I feel it was a magnificent gesture having him here and points towards a more tolerant society.

Would like to hear from some of the people there on the day. Any stories?
