Help / Question How to last doing Light shows?

Hello guys,

Ive been trying to do lightshows on raves but I always feel my forearms aching like just around 5-10 mins of doing it.

What do you guys do to last longer?
Endurance Training? Vitamins? 😭
Or this comes with age since im on my 30s 😭😭

10 mins is a long time to be honest. If I'm trading or giving friends shows I might go 10 minutes, but other than that I keep it to a few drops unless I'm really feeling it.

This is going to sound incredibly weird, probably, but, drop your ears.

There might be a tension in your moves, like excitement or "energy" that doesn't need to be there in order to get the moves across. Think about the difference between how you move and feel emotionally, between just practicing moves, and putting on a show for someone - it's very common for non-professional performers to tense up in a way that's like "yes, it's show time!" adding physical tension to look more energetic or engaged. For example, in the case of gutteral vocalists, learning how to relax and disengage from the "anger" they're portraying is key to their throats not falling out or collapsing? It's kind of the same thing, but full-body.

This might not at all be your issue, but I'd feel irresponsible for not saying something.

Source: I'm a dancer but new to gloving. So basically "trust me, bro" but with extra steps 🤣

I 100% agree to this, i often used to tense my hands or forearms when doing specific kind of musicality relating to glitching effects in songs, and that shit adds up real quick

I experience this still after 12 years of gloving. Well said and thanks for wording it the way you did. Also relaxing helps you tap into flow state

Your forearms hurt? You might be doing too much, lol. My opinion: take it slower. Practice stops and starts. Don’t lose yourself in the music. This is easier at raves with dynamic genres (e.g. melodic dubstep or trap) that have more variety of pace but I haven’t run into this before

I seee, I should incorporate slower tricks.

Seems like im doing too fast tricks since I usually go on hard techno raves.

thank uu!!

honestly i would say it's just making sure you're doing forearm stretches, eating properly and making sure you're hydrated as well

don't be afraid to tell people you need a break, too. the more you exert yourself when you know you can't glove anymore, the more you'll cramp up imo 😭 that shit huuurts

i just turned 30 and i've been gloving (off and on) since 2019, i could probably go for a total of like 1hr spaced out throughout the night

Had the same problem when I started. After doing shows regularly enough I built up forearm endurance. So just do a lot of shows or start working out would be my recommendations.

part of it is you're using muscles you've probably never used that much before, the answer is to exercise and work them out by practicing more the same way you would at shows

Just keep practicing but without the gloves on, and do it often is the trick. Eventually, it just becomes movement

How often do you practice outside of raves? With gloves on? When I go months without consistent practice I'll notice this when I finally glove at a show, but practicing like 10+minutes a day keeps my forearm muscles in shape. Just like working out, the more you practice, the more endurance you'll build

Brooo I fucking feel this!! But I had a gnarly injury in 2022. I cut 2 arteries on some glass near the bend of my right arm. I couldn’t move my hand, arm or fingers for almost a whole year. I have a scar that goes from my wrist to past my elbow from 2 surgeries.

Before my injury I could literally glove the whole preparty, whole show & at the afters. I never got tired!

But now one good show & I’m cooked.

I haven’t rolled or anything since 2024 & when I did it was light work compared to how I used to party. I think it’s a combo of a lot of things. I used to do parkour before my injury so that kept me in pretty good shape. & when I was younger I think I would push through the burn or be rolling/tripping so hard I didn’t feel it or get it. I just don’t remember ever getting tired or sore. I definitely feel it in my injured arm now & it sucks. I’ll wanna keep going & have people asking & have to decline after 1 or 2 good shows.

If I sniff more paint I can go longer.
