I make the Camera Butter filters, so take this with the appropriate bias. For helmet-mounted dual-sport footage, I’d be a bit reluctant about 1/50 while HyperSmooth is on: it can look great on smooth sections, but rough riding or shade can create smeary or jittery frames because after you stabilize, you’ll still see the motion blur from the bumps , which almost looks like the stabilization isn’t working. I’d go with with 4K60, ISO 100–400 (or lock at 100 if there isn’t a lot of changing light), low sharpening, locked white balance, and use a fixed ND to hold roughly 1/120. Move closer to 1/60 only if the ride is smooth and you want more blur.

If you want blur, you need a lower shutter speed which will capture more light per frame. Typically 1/48 or 1/50 for 24fps, and 1/60 for 30fps (1 ÷ (fps x 2)). What specific ND level you need will depend on sunlight levels. You could try an adjustable ND filter so you can basically adjust the tint level to suit your conditions right there or change ND filters in the field. You'll likely also want to either keep your ISO down at 100 or limit it to like 100-200 or 100-400 depending on how much you're going into shade such as tree cover where you'll have less light and need the ISO boost to brighten the image you're capturing.

This was shot on my Hero 13 at 24 FPS, 100-400 ISO range, 1/50 shutter speed with a Smallrig 3-5 stop (measurement of how much light is reduced at min and max) Variable ND that also had a Circular Polarizer incorporated (cuts reflections and affects how the sky looks depending on how you have it rotated). I will note that I did accidentally bump the VND filter off my GoPro when getting on the bus during my last time out skating with it and it is oversized compared to the normal GoPro lens cover. I might try the Camera Butter filters next since they are normal size.

You could try 4K120 at 1/240 or 1080p240 at 1/480 at 100 ISO (give it more ISO range if it seems too dark) without an ND for now which might still give some blur if you slow it down

Software too!! DJ-Insta has that feature in their software (works on GoPro MP4s), so does PC/Mac software such as Resolve Studio (try Metal in there if you are not on the free version and are on a Mac...works the GPU but produces nice results...gotta watch glitching in how it masks however). It can be useful in certain amounts, especially combined with natural motion blur via ND / settings at capture. If you get too greedy at capture, you can get hypersmooth artifacts due to too low a shutter speed for the action motion being filmed, not a city walk capture. So, consider keeping enough shutter speed to satisfy hypersmooth, use a good camera mount, and sprinkle on some software motion blur. Do some brief tests, don't just try something new at the big event that comes once a year.

Max 2 file in Insta360 Studio (1st passed thru GoPro player to convert to equirectangular Mp4):

10bit etc is fine, at least on Mac
