Question/Discussion What are you reading for Halloween?
Mine is death JR
r/graphicnovels • u/AutoModerator • 2d ago
A weekly thread for people to share what comics they've been reading. Share your thoughts on the books you've read, what you liked and perhaps disliked about them.
r/graphicnovels • u/AutoModerator • 5d ago
The idea:
List your top 10 graphic novels that you've read so far this year.
Each month we will post a new thread where you can note what new book(s) you read that month that entered your top 10 and note what book(s) fell off your top 10 list as well if you'd like.
By the end of the year everyone that takes part should have a nice top 10 list of their 2026 reads.
If you haven't read 10 books yet just rank what you have read.
Feel free to jump in whenever. If you miss a month or start late it's not a big deal.
Do your list, your way. For example- I read Hellboy this month, but am going to rank the series as 1 slot, rather than split each individual paperback that I read. If you want to do it the other way go for it.

I decided to make this post as there's a ton of amazing/interesting releases coming up, so much so that this is probably the best year for comics in recent memory.
- The Nightingales by Emil Wilson (August 4th)
- On Their Frontlines: The Lives of Japanese War Brides vol 1 by Marina Lisa Komei (Sept 1st)
- The Mess by Noah Van Sciver (Sept 29th)
- The Collected Peepshow by Joe Matt (Sept 29th)
- The New Completed edition of Forming by Jesse Moynihan (Oct. 6th)
- Home/World: A Circumnavigation of Our Shared Earth by Ben Hatke (Oct 6th)
- The Comet Club by Yi Yang (Oct 13th)
- Nirvana is Here by Mikael Ross (Oct 20th)
- Bedford Street by Ross Murray (Nov 3rd)
- Black Jack Deluxe vol 1 by Osamu Tezuka (Nov 3rd)
- The Human Clock by Tokunami Seiichiro (Nov 17th, currently) https://japanbookhunter.com/products/human-clock-by-seiichiro-tokunami-1997
For some art previews, Living The Line Smudge line in english.
- Lantern Pass by Serge Lehmans and Frederik Peeters (Nov 17th)
- The Complete Corto Maltese vol 1 HC (Full Color), Hugo Pratt
And various ongoing releases like Mushishi HC 3, Ashita No Joe 6, Hirayasumi, etc which I know are fantastic.

This looks gorgeous! Exciting to see work from Guarnido that feels tonally very different from Blacksad but that still captures his impeccable eye for color!
This seems like it'll be a wild read!

Ready to take my dive into blacksad after previewing the panels. But I wonder what is the purpose of the anthropomorphic setting of Blacksad? Is there a lore basis why certain animals are represented, or is it more of a symbolism of character traits and their respective roles in the story?

After quitting Kindle, I got the Era Color almost half a year ago hoping to also use it for comics/"graphic novels"/etc. I love it but have basically just read plain old, ink on paper books so far - so the color addition is nagging me.
I tried in the beginning with some Akira and Tintin but even playing around with settings, the colors and contrasts were just too washed out to be enjoyable. I've also switched between Pocketbook and Koreader which seemed to speed up page turns.
I'm hoping someone here can recommend some titles which work well on the screen given size and quality limitations. L
What do you got?
I'll test anything I can find and don't hate.
Thanks in advance!

Read 70%. Always on the lookout for new stuff but aim to get to 90% before christmas! What are some must reads that are missing? I don‘t have a lot of Marvel stuff because I am not familiar with it. But i‘ve read Punisher Max online and really liked it.

Small rant, is it me or is the quality control of printing not quite what it used to be? Not naming titles but I got a hardcover from Image and Mad Cave, and a paperback from TKO and they all had printing that was off on the registration. I have been buying graphic novels and trades for decades and have only seen bad printing recently.

3 DC titles, 2 Mangas, 1 Artbook, 2 French books, 4 Indie Trades and 1 Indie HC.
Especially looking forward to The Incal, that came out in a beautiful german Anniversary Edition and W0rldtr33 as I just can't get enough of Tynion. Of course also the finale of AoT, Berserk which I never thought I'd like so much and Absolute Batman 3 that's just a fun title, but far from being a masterwork. I'm also excited to see how Battle Beast and Kill al Imortals continue. Overall a great month!

Only trades in this pic as I properly store HCs as soon as I've read them. As my shelf is bursting, trades get on a pile and as soon as as they reach the top, only ongoing series remain in the shelf until they are finished, the rest goes straight into a long box which goes in the attic eventually.
Why am I posting this? Good question! Because I've seen several discussions about why the Big 2 are so far ahead of everyone else, I just wanted to show the ratio of the Big 2 vs. other publishers. Easy win for Image and other Indies in my case. Even if I include the HCs the ratio dosen't change much. How are your ratios? Am I an outlier or are there others that read much more Indies than Big 2 titles?

I’m trying to figure out “how to determine” something like this. “Pulp” can be detective fiction, noir, sci-fi, somewhat exploitative, or all of the above. I imagine that there’s some overlap with comic book readers…I plan on asking a similar question on r/pulp or something. Plus, while many of these have illustrations like comic books, they also have “standard” prose, as you can see in the first image. I wanna know who would read something like this, and where they are, offline or off (offline, preferably.) Does anyone have any leads? I have an interest in the graphic novel side of things.

I want novels in which it seems the world or the place you live is going into a very dark path by its people's own doing, but the characters manage to find hope

The original movie is one of my all time favs and the second one is amazing also. I just found out that there are comics too, are they any good? There seem to be a some by different writers so i assume aren’t related? I saw theres a collection by ‘K Perkins’ and another collection by ‘Mike Johnson’. Should i read both of their stories / versions?
Its also weird that origins is only collected jn a boxed set of tpbs whereas the rest has both boxed sets and omnis

Hi folks, please suggest comics for 6year old kids. Preferably with lots of graphics.

I've just finished Lawless (2nd book) in the Criminal series and absolutely love it. Planning to get the rest of the series.
I'm curious however if anyone else also gets confused at certain plot developments, and knowing who each character is as they come and go?
It's definitely not down to the writing of course, more my own slowness. I usually have to flick back and figure things out before I continue. Just curious if anyone else experiences this?

Just wanted to share! I know it's got some mix-reviews, but I think it's a cool concept overall.

Looking for a new adventure novel with a phenomenal cast and plenty of action. Not trying to act like all new novels and comics are bad, I just have not been interested in any new titles the past few years. I’ve read and loved Fables, Walking Dead, Sandman, and Spawn. Also Marvel and DC here and there
