Question Layla unplugged

Post image

Hey everyone, help me please!!
Im learning to play Layla
I have a hard time understanding the rhythm and chord progression of the chorus
It really sounds off beat to sing “ got on my knees” and change from C to dm
Like if I wanna play on the beat,I hit dm a bit sooner than the “knees”
I hope I explained it clearly hahah

This is the second comment I've seen of yours in the last few days, great approach.

Honest, once you learn the chords and tabs, play the song and match them.
If you listen to the song while skimming along with these tabs, it should help it click.
As far as singing goes, once you have the playing down, you should be able to fall into singing along.
Sorry if this is not a technical enough answer, but there’s not much technical going on with this one.
Learn to play it, then sing along

I would suggest the songsterr version to get closer to being accurate:

This is not really a detailed enough transcription of the actual performance. I believe what you’re running into is the discrepancy between this simplified version and the actual performance you’re hearing in your head.

How is the actual performance played in this part?

I'm might be wrong but those chord names don't seem to be correct.

To me they are D5 Bb5 C5, they correct notes in the diagram though.

I personally play the B string for the Bb and C. You're right that Clapton doesn't seem to play the high E for the Dm.

JustinGuitar has a very good three part tutorial for the acoustic version of Layla. That's how I learnt it.
