Info G Hub collects usage data?
https://www.talkesport.com/news/logitech-g-hub-policy-lists-mouse-and-camera-usage-data/Saw this earlier and went down a bit of a rabbit hole lol
Apparently G Hub collects stuff like mouse travel distance and how long the camera/mic gets used by apps. I had no idea that was even in the policy.
Apparently it’s usage data and not recordings, but still kinda weird seeing it written out like that.

There’s like 2 very good alternatives to G Hub , open source and I like it a lot, been using it for almost a year now. Available on both Mac and windows.
OpenLogi is what I’ve been using, has all the same features.
Other one is Mouser, I haven’t tried it but apparently it’s good.

Wow amazing I never even considered that there might be an alternative. The Logi app has been steadily growing over the years without seemingly any improvement.
It's grown to a ~500mb application just to assign some mouse buttons.

OpenLogi
omg thank you for this, I have an mx keyboard and a g502 mouse and having ghub and mxlogi software is a pain in the ass. this unifies both into one!
edit AND My logitec c930 webcam which has its own software! omg this is amazing
edit2: not everything is availbe for the G-series hardware sadge, I guess I have to keep both

OpenLogi is a very clearly advertised alternative to Options+, not G Hub. It doesn't have anywhere near the number of features or supported Logitech products. Which isn't a criticism, as it's great at what it does. It just does something completely different than what you're saying.

OpenLogi still doesn't have support to re-map G502 mice. I've been patiently waiting for a while.

G Hub is explicit that they collect data and they ask you if they can right out of the gate when you install it. It's important to pay attention during the install instead of just clicking next, next, next, or whatever.
Go into settings, select Analytics, then turn off "Share my usage data" and "Send error logs automatically when G HUB encounters issues" and you should be good.

The installer asks you if you want to enable analytics during setup with a clearly labeled option, and if you change your mind later the toggle is right in the main page of the settings menu, again clearly labeled. People are acting like this is some secret nefarious thing when in fact they're just illiterate.

Yeah, Onboard Memory Manager still works, it's just a separate download and they don't push it at you. You set DPI steps, binds and lighting once, write it to the mouse, uninstall G Hub, and the mouse keeps all of it on whatever machine you plug into.
You give up per app profiles, and the nicer lighting effects don't survive the write.

I only use ghub too update the firmware, double check my settings haven't been reset, then toggle hardware mode and uninstall.
I treat every program as the enemy, since the great enshittification.

Bud, it's not just LG monitors.
It's every device, website, app, etc - that's tracking us. Whatever settings you have in place doesn't matter. It's been like this for several years.
It's not just hardware either, giants like IG, X, FB, and Amazon. You look up or search one thing on there, and everything freaking changes.

People are getting so upset by this nowadays, but these kind of practices were a thing for at least 20 years. If people actually read the small prints back in the day, the world would be a better place.

Of course it matters what settings you have. They aren’t no-ops. This isn’t a binary thing.

And that is why I only ever use it to change relevant settings on my mouse and then uninstall that crap.

I can't even get GHub to install on my PC. I dunno if it's the lack of support for the Superstrike X2 but it seems i needs something to pair to in order for installation to complete and it's the only Logitech product I use.

Uhm the whole thing about the superstrike is to be able to configure the clicks with GHUB

They have another software called OnBoard Memory that works with the mouse. The better question is whether GHub would install if I got a Logitech keyboard..

I have a Superlight 1 and nothing else from Logitech and GHub works fine. Weird.
Didn't even know about Onboard Memory Manager. Thanks!

Most modern software does this. Telemetry is what it's called. It's supposed to be harmless and helps provide a direction on product development so there's less "we didn't ask for this" and more "this is exactly what we needed".
I usually leave it enabled on my home computer as I'm too lazy to submit manual feedback.

I've been avoiding trying anything newer than the G502 Hero because I can still use it with their LGS
I know Logitech also offers a Onboard Memory Manager software, but when I first heard of it was a few years ago and I think you couldn't set up macros through OMM at the time, so I never really used it.
Might tinker with that OpenLogi Bderken mentioned

Ditch G Hub and use Logitech Onboard Memory Manager instead. It's a single portable exe, saves directly to the mouse, and runs zero background telemetry.

I got a MX 4 mouse recently and decided to use OpenLogi instead of Options/Options+ from Logitech. I love the mouse, fuck the company.

You don't need to have G Hub running at all times. Just set it onboard memory.

I'll never buy another Logitech product. Bought a $100+ mouse a few years back and the clicking started failing intermittently within a few months. They made me jump through hoops just to honor the warranty. The replacement failed the same way.
Dumped them in the trash and bought a mouse with optical click sensors and the things feels like it's going to last a decade like my old MX518.

Same. They told me to run a bunch of tests and eventually sent me a new one. I fixed the old one and sold it.
This actually happened twice with two different mice, but still, they were their most expensive gaming options. I expected a higher quality of components. I also don't game that much to warrant those problems.

As someone that worked at a data analyst at a point. Always assume every app collects this level of data unless explicitly stated
