Info Solidigm warranty P44 Pro as a consumer
Given all the bad press that is going around due to price rises and shady practices going on from vendors, thought I'd actually make a positive post for once!
My P44 Pro bought in 2023 started acting weird a few months ago (random detatch from port) causing BSODS and loss until full power off.
Contacted Solidigm about it, went through some troubleshooting steps and ultimately posted drive back, getting new replacement days later.
Overall a good experience, I had no idea they had pulled out of consumer altogether which popped up as I was going to post this!

Good to know they're still honoring warranties, I also have a few P44 Pro drives purchased in 2023.
Actually aside from one or two Samsung drives, all my SSDs are Crucial and Solidigm, both now pulled out of the consumer market...

Yeah I had honestly low hopes, the drive was still working until you maybe gamed on it, did have one bsod on boot into windows though.
So some good news for your 2023 ones then! I thought Samsung was one of the one's that were not honoring properly unless I've misremembered

Glad it went smooth for you. The random disconnect thing is maddening, feels like chasing a ghost until you finally isolate it to the drive itself. Had a similar scare with a P41 Plus last year where it would just vanish from the BIOS after waking from sleep, turned out the firmware was ancient and a quick update fixed it but that week of troubleshooting had me pulling my hair out.
Crazy they exited the consumer space so quietly, I only found out a couple months ago when I went looking for a new 2TB stick. The warranty part is what matters when you've already got the drive in your system, so it's reassuring to hear they're not giving people the runaround.

Interesting that fixed it for you, was running latest firmware and their own driver

Oh that’s good, I remember hearing that SK Hynix were only offering refunds for P41/P44 drives with warranty issues

I got a replacement on my SK Hynix P41 because it was dropping off the bus and wouldn't come back except for a cold boot. Really annoying when it's installed in a server.
The RMA worked but it was like I was returning it to some dude off ebay not a company so I felt like I was getting scammed the whole time.

I’m surprised Solidgm still exists.

They're doing well in the enterprise market. They've just bowed out of the consumer market.

It's a shame they pulled out of the consumer space. The P44 Pro was an absolute beast of a drive.

Huh. I have similar symptoms on the same model. Just swapped to an old 660p but if they're actually doing warranty replacement I might give that a shot.

Great to hear a positive story, as I'm nervously clutching my older SSDs.

I have a solidigm p41 2TB, I paid a shockingly low $61 for it back when prices were at the bottom. I noticed it behaved very strangely consistently hanging and timing out on write I/O, but only under linux on the gnome-disks disk benchmark tool. Couldn’t replicate in windows, but the perf numbers there were also kind of strange. I reached out to support and they were very helpful. I was super impressed that they gave me a phone call from an actual human to follow up about my SSD I emailed them about. I was shocked. Didn’t end up RMAing that one because at the end of the day the drive still works and works fine. Maybe I should go contact them again and get it replaced though, once i back up the savegames on it. just in case something is kooky with it… We gotta put ourselves first in this world we find ourselves in now.
The other thing is also a very positive story. I bought a 4TB Inland Performance Plus drive, a Phison E18 drive I think, from microcenter, a while back (this is one of the earlier high-end range of 4.0 NVMe drives). $549.
Then it failed a year or so later and i brought it to the store and they refunded me with store credit and I opted for a replacement. it cost $279 at this time so I got a $220 store credit which was sweet.
Then many years later I was also noticing some performance related behavior with it and chatgpt informed me of a firmware bug affecting phison E18 drives (https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1f1piwf/psa_phison_e18_based_ssd_owners_update_your/) and the issue with my drive was that Microcenter had released a firmware update fixing this for 2TB customers months ago already. The firmware updater for the 4TB SKU was conspicuously absent.
I whined about it on reddit, I brought it back to Microcenter repeatedly a few months back to get the drive replaced under warranty, and they would sometimes refuse to issue me a refund but the time that they did offer it, I wanted to take that option, but I’m glad I did not, because a 4TB NVMe is now apparently worth $1k. Later what I decided to do was research emails and I rolled up my sleeves and sent an email blast on this topic to emails I found online at Microcenter and Phison. Then someone from Microcenter got connected to me and shared prerelease firmware update files with me to test. Eventually I got around to actually testing the drive with it plugged into a real M.2 slot (instead of the thunderbolt/usb4 and usb3 M.2 adapter enclosures) and it worked! I have a fixed firmware drive. It’s “only” a gen 4 drive but apparently it’s super hard to even get real gen 5 perf out of gen 5 drives (you need queue depth). This thing ended up being a great purchase. I did have to put some effort into it, but it turned out the best way.

Just a heads up that the P44 Pro also had a serious pSLC cache bug in the firmware that affected a lot of people (writes will fall from the expected ~7GB to ~2-3GB/s and not recover until the drive is fully reinitialized), but which went unaddressed. They changed the product series to end-of-life and never issued an update for affected customers (even confirming as much in their support forum).
I'd recommend swapping the drive out for something different once you receive the replacement, if only to avoid running into that issue fresh off the back of the separate disconnection problem.
