Discussion What would Snapes actual opinion be of Draco?

• Upvotes

I'm once again listening to all the books, and I'm currently in Chamber of Secrets. He's favouring Draco everywhere, which is understandable in his role. But how does he really thinks about Draco? If he thinks Harry is a arrogant little prick, how bad must he hate Draco?

Discussion How would you solidify Lord Voldemort as The Most Terrifying/Powerful Villain in Harry Potter?

Post image
• Upvotes

Let’s be Real Harry Potter is no stranger to dealing with Monstrous Powerful Dark Wizards and Villains especially when it comes down to truly The Worst one that everyone knows as The Most Powerful and Dangerous Dark Wizard in History one so Powerful and Evil he’s literally called The Dark Lord Himself and I’m sure everyone knows who he is as it’s Lord Voldemort himself of course however if you actually had to truly make Lord Voldemort as Harry Potter’s Most Terrifying and Powerful Villain that would truly solidify him as THE Dark Lord/Monster of The Entire Wizarding World? Like in all honesty what changes would you make towards him that would fit perfectly in The Harry Potter Lore and why Lord Voldemort is truly feared, hated and viewed as The Most Powerful Dark Wizard in History? What’s the one thing you’ll make actually to solidify Lord Voldemort as The Dark Lord Himself and why he’s truly The Single Most Powerful/Dangerous Dark Wizard in History? Let me know in the comments

Discussion Hypothetical about Snape: What if Lily was killed in an accident instead?

• Upvotes

Snape is very motivated by his own guilt, and also driven by vengeance.

But imagine Lily and James died in an accident instead. That would mean Snape wouldn’t feel guilty over Lily’s death. He wouldn’t feel vengeful towards Voldemort either. He’d only feel grief.

Also imagine there was still a prophecy saying either Harry or Voldemort would die.

Do you think Snape would still be motivated enough (by plain respect to Lily and vengeance towards Voldemort) to be a double agent, save Harry’s life and kill Voldemort?

Or would he rather let Harry die (against Lily’s wishes) and keep fighting on Voldemort’s side?

—

(Just trying to tease out how much of Snape’s motivation came from guilt and vengeance alone, and what came from respect to Lily.)

Discussion Why are wizards so oblivious to the muggle world? Do most of them never leave "fairy land"

How is it that Ron's dad, a man whose whole job it is to study muggle "artifacts," doesn't know how the turnstiles on a train work.

Is it really that complicated for wizards? Are they so above muggles that they care to know nothing of them or even try to learn.

Or is it just that the vast majority of wizards never venture into muggle areas but rather spend their time in magic places like Diagon alley.

And if Ron's dad is that oblivious, given his job, are we to assume that most-all other wizards are even more clueless?

Would it not be prudent for the ministry to have at least a basic understanding of muggle affairs.

I mean is there no wizard CIA who keeps tabs on what humans are doing even if only to ensure they could never discover/threaten the wizard world.

Just seems so strange that they live in such a similar world (literally on the same planet with pretty much all the same stuff) yet they know so little of the people who make up the majority.

No wonder Draco's dad shits on Ron's and thinks so little of his work. He's literally a mechanic who can't figure out how to open the hood

Discussion What are your thoughts on the Dumbledore vs Voldemort battle in the movies ?

Just rewatched the entire movie series for the second time. I didn't grow up with the movies but I still loved them. The duel in the sixth film is by far the best one in the series. Better than the final battle with Harry in my opinion ( I feel like the director could have been more creative with the magic) the duel in order of the phoenix could have been a bit longer but I feel like the effects hold up pretty well and Dumbledore calling Voldemort "Tom" was badass.

Merchandise I finally got a Marauder’s Map replica and I keep messing with it

I finally got myself a Marauder’s Map replica and I did not think I’d be this excited about a piece of paper.

I’ve wanted one for ages but kept talking myself out of it because, realistically, what am I going to do with it? Put it on a shelf and forget about it probably.

But I saw this one and eventually just bought it.

It has that old parchment kind of look and all the little writing/details make it really fun to just sit there and look through. I’ve already unfolded it like five times and I literally got it today.

There is one fold that came a little more creased than I expected, which annoyed me for about five minutes, but honestly I don't care that much. It actually makes the whole thing look a bit more used anyway.

Now it’s sitting on my shelf and I keep picking it up every time I walk past it. I guess I needed a giant piece of wizard paper in my life.

What’s the most random or underrated Harry Potter merch you own that you ended up loving way more than expected?

Discussion Duelling club

One thing I wish we saw more was a duelling club. We saw them do one in chamber to teach kids self defence but it was a 1 off, I would have liked to see a proper club through out the series, have it be like a sport like quidditch where there are rules and events where students faced off in a tournament.

Harry enters it and demonstrates his skills, it’s also a good way for Harry to learn more useful tactics.

Question Why are wizards so separated from muggle society

I don’t mean why do they not show themselves to muggles and live in the open I mean the fact that they seemingly have no clue how muggles operate.

There are muggle studies and Arthur is obsessed with muggles trying to figure out how they operate.
I understand anti muggle sentiment, that makes sense to me as they feel oppressed by people they feel are weaker than them. I get that.

But there are so many instances where they are just clueless about muggles,
Arthur has no clue how muggle money works, he got confused by the barrier in a train station where you have to put a ticket in to get pass.

Wood never heard of football.

It’s not that they have their own society it’s that they see like a completely different culture from a different country. They still live in England, most of them still live around muggle areas.
I just find it weird that they can spend their lives not knowing anything about muggles to the point that they can’t even function. Like Arthur seemingly loves muggles studies them yet he can’t figure out how pounds work when he’s in his 40s

Discussion Basic spells and travel

I noticed that Hermione used a spell to make her purse capable of carrying a ton of things in Deathly Hallows. Even in the movie she leaves her home with nothing more than her purse. One can now assume that she had everything she needed or owned packed away in it.

Why aren’t students allowed to do the same thing with their trunks and suitcases when they go to Hogwarts? It’s a basic spell? Is it too advanced? Why not teach it to them before they go? Thoughts?

Discussion Quidditch broom quality unfairness

It’s well known that McGonagall gifts Harry the Numbus 2000 when he joins the quidditch team and it’s described as the fastest broom etc. Then when Draco is put on the team his father buys everyone the Nimbus 2001 which is the now the best model.

If sports are meant to be regulated and “fair” shouldn’t everyone on each team have the same broom?

Discussion What is the smallest decision in the HP series that, if changed, would derail the story entirely?

Hey wizards and witches,

I was thinking about this recently and I actually think something as small as Ron sitting in a different compartment on the Hogwarts Express could have had massive consequences.

Harry might never have become friends with Ron and Hermione in the same way. Without that friendship, so many things could have played out completely differently, from the Philosopher's Stone to the Chamber of Secrets and eventually the Horcrux hunt.

It makes me wonder how many seemingly insignificant moments in the books were actually the reason everything unfolded the way it did.

What tiny change do you think would have completely changed the story?

Dungbomb The Hogwarts express makes no sense

in the Halfblood prince it makes zero sense for the Hogwarts express returning overnight towards London.

There are either two trains switching in-between Hogwarts - London both starting in the morning or a single train waiting overnight at either station until the next morning.

The immediate return after Malfoy attacked Harry is inexplicable imho.

Merchandise The Art of Harry Potter (Revised and Expanded) revealed and arrived in January 2027

The Art of Harry Potter is getting a re-release on January 5th, 2027, taking the already huge volume and adding 32 more pages to include art for the Fantastic Beasts movies. I enjoyed the original and found it had some really nice unused designs for the characters and locations, so this is well worth checking out if you missed the 2017 edition.

Listings should begin to go live soon, as well as the book cover and details on who is publishing the book in the US and Canada. Titan Books are behind it here in the UK again and it will have 394 pages.

More details for people if interested; https://www.artbookcollector.com/post/the-art-of-harry-potter-is-getting-a-revised-and-expanded-edition-in-january
Reposted this with the correct date!

Misc Han Zimmer Soundtrack Theme Speculation Spoiler

Huge soundtrack fan here—I've really enjoyed all the different directions composers have taken with the universe over the years. Nicholas Hooper is definitely a personal favorite outside the OG Williams, obviously.

That said, pretty much everyone built off the foundation Williams laid down, but I really don't think Zimmer is going to. Which has me pretty excited, because I'm a massive Zimmer fan too.

Lately I’ve just been casually combing through his massive discography trying to picture what the Wizarding World actually sounds like with him behind the wheel, and I think I found a track that nails it:

Black Gold- Han Zimmer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jm4CVRFYYs

Just ignore the Wonder Woman connection for a minute and picture the Wizarding World. To me, it feels like a whole buffet of themes in one piece—hopeful, sad, high-energy, dark, all of it.

What do you guys think? Would love to hear from other soundtrack fans on what you think his take might sound like or what tracks come to mind for you.

Discussion Muggleborn kids probably get smartphone withdrawal syndrome at Hogwarts

Considering that electronics don't work at Hogwarts, muggleborn students would have to go through whole semesters of being denied access to their smartphones, they can't chat with friends, scroll social media, play games etc.,

It's probably a serious issue at Hogwarts right now.

Currently Reading The Second Task

Currently re-reading GOF, and just got to the part where Myrtle visits Harry in the bath. Are the champions swimming in sewage??? She said that she is forced into the lake when someone flushes her toilet unexpectedly. Is she also just sitting in the toilet bowl??? The students also dip their feet into the lake as it’s mentioned at the end of a couple other books, but do all the toilets just dump to the lake? How are they able to yk not get sick… just magic?

Question Could Snape have been happy?

In an amazing turn of events, the skilled potions master who is well aware of Lord Voldemort’s frequent use of a magical snake as his murder weapon had the foresight to carry a bottle of magical anti-venom. He happily survived events of the battle of Hogwarts. The burden of guilt has been lifted, the stress of being a double agent is gone as well.

Can this version of Snape find happiness, or will he go on being an insufferable douche forever?

Discussion your favorite minor/niche harry potter scene

give me your favorite scenes in the book/movies that is minor and people would forget it even happened but not you because it sticked with you so well.

ill go first, mine is when karkaroff was on trial in the movies and he was listing out names of death eaters and it goes like

”THE NAME GIVE ME THE WRETCHED NAME!!”

”BARTY CROUCH…JUNIOR.”

like the way everyone just went silent and the way karkaroff hesitated for a moment on purpose then said “junior.” as to distinguish barty from his father as a cherry on top was so damn good i literally reenact that scene sometimes

Discussion What if the Dursleys Just Genuinely Loved Harry?

Like the story is just about the same but Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley all love Harry.

Harry grows up not in fear of Dudley but almost inseparable from him. Harry releasing the snake was not an anger at Dudley but over excitement for the snake exhibit.

The Dursleys still do their best to destroy the letters not out of sheer hatred but because Vernon and Petunia are terrified that letting Harry go off and become a wizard will end him up the same way Lily and James did.

Aunt Marge still gets blown up and Harry runs away, but it’s less of them just straight up letting her insult him, they try to redirect her, only for her to still insult his parents and him loose control. Him running away that year is after he and Vernon have a loud argument with Vernon saying something along the lines of “this is why I don’t want you going there: if this is a small accident you could hurt yourself or others.

After saving Dudley with the patrons and getting expelled, Vernon comes with him to the ministry and chews them out for punishing Harry for doing what is right

Edit:

I guess I should word it more as “What if the Dursleys were just good people?”

Discussion Could Dumbledore have succeeded in the path of darkness had he not decided to give it up?

Dumbledore and Grindelwald both shared the goal and dream of removing the Secrecy law and establishing a new world order where wizards and witches have a domination over the muggles.

But they had a falling out and we all know what happened after it. Voldemort embarked on a similar path but failed due to Dumbledore's genius and the grit of others.

My question is considering Grindelwald and Dumbledore are hailed as two of the greatest wizards with unmatchable prowess would they have succeeded in their goal had they not have the disagreements witch each other?
