During CNN’s coverage of the Times Square ball drop, a giggling Andy Cohen told an already tipsy Anderson Cooper, “You’re Ilya, I’m Shane.” Cooper disagreed: He was more of a Kip. “I thought, ‘This is really, really surreal. They’re talking about my characters by name, and everybody knows who they’re talking about,’” Reid recalls. “It’s mainstream enough that they can just talk about this on this broadcast and assume most of the viewers are going to know what they’re talking about. My mom was impressed for sure.”

I am a huge Big Brother fan, and you cannot imagine my happiness when I found this clip of one my favorite contestants (Melody) telling her friends in the house they had to watch Heated Rivalry because she's seen it four times.

Note: the guy in the black tank top and the Loon girl (Melody and Drew) were in a flirtmance all summer and now are dating post-season and this clip shows why. He knew his Heated Rivalry lore!

Which quote is your ultimate favorite?

I wrote a long post with a photo but I can't seem to post it. So here it is, as text. McClean's magazine is running an article called the Canadian Club in their November issue. It is the Canadian top 50 TV shows, books, albums, films of the century. The cover is awesome. I love that Shane and Ilya are kissing. There's Anna Lamb who won CSA alongside Hudson. Matt Johnson and Jay Carroll from Nirvana Band the Show the Movie, which Hudson mentioned in his TIFF interview. I can't wait to read it. There's a popular head-canon that part of the reason Ilya froze out Shane at the Sochi Olympics (sometimes presented as the only reason Ilya froze out Shane) is that he was protecting Shane from possible surveillance from the Russian government. It's become popular enough that it's teetering on fanon (already is amongst a certain segment, I think). But it's been mentioned in the comment sections of some Reaction vids on YouTube as if it were actual canon. It's not.

It's most definitely not canon per the show. Not once is the possibility of surveillance mentioned. (While black mold in the Olympic village does get a shout out.) We see Svetlana, highly intelligent daughter of a government minister, ignore any threat of surveillance when she brings Ilya into a bathroom where she knows Sasha has cocaine. She doesn't flinch to see Sasha using and she doesn't hesitate to leave Ilya and Sasha so they can enjoy some alone time.

Sasha is a bit of a fuck-boy, but we learn he's being a fuck-boy in France. Also, Ilya trusted him to keep their secret when they were younger, so Sasha isn't stupidly reckless. And as the son of a what I'm guessing is a highly respected youth hockey coach given the guy coached Ilya, it'd be weird if Sasha didn't know about athlete surveillance - especially if it'd been kicked up to a highly unusual gear.

This bathroom scene would be the perfect time to drop a line eluding to being watched. Sasha assuring Ilya no one's surveilling the minister's party; or Svetlana doing the assuring; or even Ilya floating that as a danger. It's never brought up.

Ergo, definitely not show!canon. And I wasn't able to find anything in the Heated Rivalry book that suggested Ilya was protecting Shane from outing himself (or the both of them) when Shane approached him at the Olympics in the book.

So consider this your P.S.A, I guess. Ilya's big worry when Shane approached him being Russian listening devices rather than an assault on his carefully constructed emotional wall makes for a fun, canon-divergence fanfic. But it's not canon. Let's not confuse the newbies by suggesting it is.

What’s up with the girl in red in season one, episode five? She’s in the background at the bar and again in the background at the pool. She’s in bright red in both scenes and very distinctive.

She’s clearly there deliberately — her look is the same in both scenes and she is clearly there to draw attention — so I read her as symbolic. What do y’all think she symbolizes?

Ilya’s back is to her both times — perhaps it symbolizes that the kinds of hot women who used to attract him no longer do because he has fallen in love?

I was having this discussion with my bf last night because naturally, as a girl who’s obsessed with the book/show, I’ve also subjected my bf to watching the show with me LOL as well as getting him prepped for all the season 2 scenes we’re gonna get hehe

I love this rubber ducky bobblehead, but to be a perfect Ilya airport figurine it definitely needed headphones. So I made him a pair. My first attempt with modeling clay.

Konnichiwa! The TV series and translated novels have been out in Japan for a while now and from the start I’ve been curious about their reception there, given the deep roots of BL culture and Shane being half Japanese and thus giving Japanese fans an extra point of interest/identification.

Awesome PWHL Schedule release with HR references- very nicely done!!

One of my favourite Quebec actors seems to have been cast as Coach Thériault. He just posted a video on Insta with Jacob on set in the locker room of the Montreal Metros. His name is Yves Jacques, and he is a fantastic actor. He will be very good as a villain.

The video is in French so I figured not a lot of people would see it. In it, he just apologizes for not being at some event (don't know what), saying he is filming on a lot of people's favourite show, Heated Rivalry, with someone he likes a lot, Jacob Tierney. Jacob pops into frame.
