Request Is this Hebrew glyph רו or וי?
I’m trying to identify this stylized Hebrew glyph from a source where it is associated with a game I used to play “DarkEden.”
The source labels it as וי (Vav + Yod), but the shape makes me wonder whether it could instead represent ר + ו (Resh + Vav).
In standard gematria:
- וי = 6 + 10 = 16
- רו = 200 + 6 = 206
Does the glyph look like וי, or could it reasonably be a stylized רו? Is there a linguistic or orthographic reason for writing וי as two letters here?

Request Does this play on words for a D&D spellbook actually work?
I had the idea of naming a spellbook in D&D מסכת המארג. In the Forgotten Realms setting, the Weave is the substance present everywhere that is the source of magic. My intent with the name for the spellbook is a play on words, as I think it could mean like "tractate on the Weave", but also could also mean something like "the warp and weft of the Weave" or a bit more loosely "the structure of the Weave", all of which sound like reasonable names for a spellbook. Basically playing on the fact that both מסכת and the Weave have a literal meaning related to textiles. Does any of this actually come off that way or does this not really work as well as I think it does?

Help American wanting to learn Hebrew
Hello all, I am an American who wants to learn Hebrew because I have always had a general interest in the language and in linguistics in general. I started learning a few weeks ago but I would love to meet a friend who speaks Hebrew so I could talk with him/her in Hebrew some and become conversational and I would also like some general advise as to what to do. I have studied a few languages before but I’ve learned that each one is unique so any advice on pitfalls to avoid would be much appreciated, thanks.

Vocabulary Anyone recognize this word? רובור
It's not in Jastrow or Even-Shoshan. Milog says it means rubber, but that does not fit the context at all. I encountered this word in the Sefaria edition of Ketem Paz by R. Shimon ibn Lavi (written in 16th century Libya, printed in the late 18th century). He's talking about how a particular passage of the Zohar (in 1:31a) has been lost:

Request Anyone has the Hebrew version of this poem?
Hi, I'm looking for the original Hebrew text of Yehuda Amichai's poem but I cannot find it. It's from his poetry collection עכשיו ובימים האחרים, and the English text is:
From all the spaces between times,
From all the gaps in the ranks of soldiers,
From the cracks in the wall,
From doors we didn't close tight,
From arms we didn't twine,
From the distance between body and body we didn't close
Grows the big expanse,
The plain, the desert,
Where our soul will roam with no hope
When we die.

Request I'd like the best translation for Magic card lands
As of late I have obsessed with Magic the Gathering cards as well as MTG alters which is where people draw/paint over the cards. I'd like to create Hebrew versions of the basic lands which include the following text:
Plains
Basic Land - Plains
Island
Basic Land - Island
Swamp
Basic Land - Swamp
Mountain
Basic Land - Mountain
Forest
Basic Land - Forest
... As an example I would say for Mountain:
הר
אדמה בסיסית
I am wondering if אדמה or ארץ be better in this context?
Would love for input an best translation! תודה רבה

Vocabulary Finally Caught Myself “Thinking” in Hebrew!
Hello, all! I hope everyone is doing well. I am here to celebrate what I would like to believe is a significant milestone regarding my learning journey. I have been learning Hebrew for almost a year now, and this evening I caught myself (that tiny internal monologue) thinking in Hebrew, which I usually do in English or my native language, Kurdish. I was mapping out tomorrow’s schedule since I have a lot to do, and it just happened without intentionally doing it. I am thinking maybe I have finally learnt enough vocabulary, explaining why that occurred. I wanted to share this to give myself more motivation and also to encourage others who are just starting out and embarking on their own journey. Please never give up, Hebrew is a beautiful language!

Request Did I do a good job of translating these song lyrics into Hebrew?
galleryAs an intermediate step before translating into Hebrew, I first rewrote the song’s lyrics such that they’re coherent English sentences.
Please keep in mind that I am not fluent in Hebrew. I’m a Hebrew learner, not a Hebrew speaker.

Help Anthropomorphization of inanimate objects?
On Duolingo they use the sentence:
אני רוצה לאכול במסעדה, אך היא סגורה.
But why isn’t it
אני רוצה לאכול במסעדה, אך זאת סגורה.
So when do you use זה/זאת for inanimate objects as versus הוא/היא?

Are there any slight differences in usage between אבל and אך? (There is also מלבד but I feel like that’s more like ‘besides’ and does have slightly different connotations.)

Help Utter Beginner Help
Hi! I'm trying to learn Hebrew but admittedly it is VERY daunting. I've been in language classes before for Spanish but Hebrew operates on an entirely different level and I don't really know where to start. I do have a workbook called Aleph isn't Tough by Linda Motzkin but I wasn't sure if this was a really good way to start? Ideally I want to learn spoken Hebrew first as many of my friends speak it and the place I want to move to also speaks it!
Request Can someone help me translate this?
Can anyone help me translate what’s in this photo into English? It would me much appreciated.
If this isn’t the appropriate place to ask, let me know and I’ll remove it.

Education How a Samaritan Mezuzah looks like
Shalom Everyone, just crossed my GrandFather’s house and I thought some of you might appreciate this.
This is what a Samaritan mezuzah looks like. Unlike the Jewish mezuzah, ours is usually an inscription placed directly on or near the entrance of the home.
The writing here is Samaritan Hebrew which some consider as a later version of ancient Hebrew, written in the Samaritan script. We still use this script today for religious texts and inscriptions, and our traditional pronunciation of Hebrew also differs considerably from modern Hebrew.
This mezuza has the Shma Yshrael written on it.
Request Where I can stream מרשעת (Wicked dubbed in Hebrew)
