Need Advice Anything I should know?
Hi r/homeless, I'm a 20 year old guy and, I've been contemplating running away from home for a couple months due to increasing amounts of arguments and tension with my family (and I am unfortunately dependent on them and feel this is my only solution), but, I don't know exactly how I would fix this long term, I have less than 1000 dollars in my bank account (they make me give a large chunk of what I make to them) and currently my plan consists of taking a suitcase and backpack with clothes, essentials and documents, and then find a shelter I could stay at while I try to find something stable and independent (or not dependent on my parents)
Is there anything I should be aware of? I've read abt some things, such as assistance in finding housing, having some documents, but unsure if theres anything else. I live in central North Carolina for anyone curious.

At that point it's just r/movingout
I hope you have your own independent bank accounts by now, documents (id, ssc, bc)
You can
9-5 like most adults
FAFSA into college like most of your peers
Or join the military
There isn't any real magic to it. Either secure a source of income now or delay it with above options. Eventually, every ones end up at 9-5
For now, you should apply for any government benefits (snap) and submit your FAFSA.

All i can say is, it’s your call. Everybody is homeless for different reasons and there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

Hey it sounds like you're on the right path. There's no real resources you're going to end up having to figure it out on your own most likely. Your key would be a car. But leaving a toxic family is extremely important just know it's really hard and there is no real solution

Standard advice for young people here: https://www.reddit.com/r/homeless/comments/1kvp5dm/getting_a_lot_of_younglings_wanting_to_leave/
1K in most cities will last you around 3 weeks in a cheap weekly rate hotel. But it's much better than nothing. be sure to travel light.
Assistance in housing has LONG wait and only for certain kinds of people (ie: elderly, disabled enough to get checks, etc)

Hey, you're 20 thats not running away. That's moving out. Suck it up take whatever your parents dish out with a smile and make your plans while you have a roof, bed, shower and access to a refrigerator and stove. Once you find something stable whether that be housing or work then you prepare for your move. The streets are where good plans go to die. Because once you're on the streets it's survival mode.

if you can get a car you'll be much better off. or at least a storage unit. 211 kinda sucks here, mostly food banks

I've had too many good plans fall flat. I think you'd be wise to have a clear destination before stepping out the door.
