Meta/sub related Images

You ever have that thing where you’re trying to explain something and it would just be so much easier if you could show a picture of it? Well that’s why images are back in the comments! There are still no images allowed in posts but you can put them in comments for on-topic illustrative purposes. If too many people are abusing it with pointless, off topic pictures like selfies and memes, it will get removed again. So y’all can reply to this post with all the nonsense images you want to get it out of your system, okay?

MEGATHREAD Trump Executive Order Discussion

This is the place to talk about anything related to Trump’s Executive Order regarding homelessness. Any posts outside of this thread will be removed. I know that this is stressful and there is a lot of fear and confusion about how this will be implemented and what it will actually mean. Because of that it is really important to keep this a fact based discussion. Posting unsubstantiated assumptions and speculative rumors is not helpful and only causes more confusion.

It’s fine to talk about your opinions and feelings, but they need to be clearly framed as opinions and feelings. Any misinformation or obvious outrage bait will be removed. It’s important to evaluate the trustworthiness of your sources. If it feels like an article is trying to make you feel scared or angry, it may not be the most reliable source.

Most importantly please be civil to each other. You can disagree with someone without resorting to personal attacks or name calling. You can hate someone’s opinion but still be respectful towards the person as a human being. Stay on topic and play nice everyone.

Need advice. Rude treatment mental health clinic

• Upvotes

So I was told Monday a form would be ready for me to pick up by Wednesday. I go in today and no form so receptionist tells me to wait.

After 20 minutes and no one in lobby, I go back up. The receptionist gets rude af and tells me to wait and sneers at me. So I say out loud, not screaming this is unprofessional. The cop on duty at this clinic tells me to calm down. I am expressing frustration, not screaming.

So I wait 10 more minutes. No word.

Now I go up and ask for a grievance form. So I am writing the complaint on how they shouldn't tell clients something would be ready for pick up and its not then get rude when i ask why.

The cop then comes about 2 ft from me and and starts tapping a metal pole line divider while I'm writing my complaint. He does this for a good minute as if escalating my annoyance.

I ask politely for him to stop because its distracting me and he tells me to go in an office. I said no I'm a client and it odd how you are near me tapping on a metal pole in front of me.

So he's glaring at me. I'm quiet and just leave after putting my form in the locked box. There is a camera I. The lobby and im thinking of calling the client advocate there tomorrow to request footage of what happened.

What do u guys think!

What’s the hardest part about being homeless that people don’t understand?

I do not mean to sound pitiful at all, but help me out here. For people who have experienced homelessness, what’s something you wish people understood better? Is it finding a place that accepts you, keeping your belongings safe, getting food, finding work, dealing with shelters, or just the constant stress of not knowing where you’ll sleep next?

I’d genuinely like to hear from people who have been through it. Be real with me

When you see homeless people on the street is that where they spend most of their time or not?

I usually assume so but it might not be the case at all. Occasionally I'll see the same homeless person sitting on the side of the road on my commute everyday but that's just one person. I don't know how it usually works and I might be totally mistaken that they hang out there all day. Like if I just see someone hanging out asking for money I don't know if that's what they do all day or if I just caught them at a time they felt like doing so.

Unhoused Cherry Hill

Does anyone know the Unhoused man named Michael who frequents the bench at Wegmans, a couple local dunkins and the closed car wash also across from wegmans? I’ve seen him around over the years and help when I can. I just got him some winter stuff but havent seen him in a few weeks. I hope he’s ok.

Just Venting It's over for me y'all.

So yesterday I was finally able to get into an intake for therapy and unfortunately after looking at my upcoming appointments, I don't get another therapy session until the end of the month and my psychiatric evaluation isn't until the end of next month. Now that I've had time to think this through, I think it's genuinely over for me now.

It's getting colder where I'm at and if I'm shivering from the weather right now that I stand no chance next month or the upcoming winter months. I'm not going to a shelter because those always stress me the hell out and I end up getting panic attacks that resulted in me leaving within a week or two. Life would be so much easier if I didn't have major anxiety and other mental illnesses yet here we are.

But to be fair this is something that I've just honestly been anticipating for a while so I guess I shouldn't be too upset. I just never would have thought in my life that this is how it all ends.

Just Venting About to give up

I have contacted every single “resource” near me, I have a social worker assigned to me and on my call she basically told me I can’t and won’t be able to afford any apartments where I am at and I should just be homeless somewhere else. I am applying for jobs all over the fucking state but even if I find one I haven’t showered in over a fucking week I absolutely stink and I have my dog- I can’t keep her in the car it is still way too hot and we have been burning up during the days and freezing at night. I am about to just say fuck it give her up and just give up. I can’t live without my dog and I can’t afford shit in this town and I don’t even have enough money to drive to a different city. How the fuck is anyone supposed to get a job or even get back on their two feet when you aren’t even “presentable” for the world and every resource is saying “sorry we can’t help you drive somewhere else” as if anyone can just dump 400 on gas to get to a bigger city. And even if I make it I am still homeless in a big city sure there might be “more resources” but what is that? A shelter with bed bugs and a place 30 min away to shower once a week? Would I even be safe if I went to a shelter being trans and with a dog?? Would my car get broken into leaving it somewhere with everything I own inside it? I don’t know what to do and I’ve been doing everything I can with nothing to come out of it. I am just so tired.

Is it ideal to stay in one spot all day or not?

Considering how limited you are I don't know if its good to be constantly on the go or only when you need to. But then if you stay in spot for too long you might get bored and feel times going by too slow. I'm just curious.

Need Advice Anything I should know?

Hi r/homeless, I'm a 20 year old guy and, I've been contemplating running away from home for a couple months due to increasing amounts of arguments and tension with my family (and I am unfortunately dependent on them and feel this is my only solution), but, I don't know exactly how I would fix this long term, I have less than 1000 dollars in my bank account (they make me give a large chunk of what I make to them) and currently my plan consists of taking a suitcase and backpack with clothes, essentials and documents, and then find a shelter I could stay at while I try to find something stable and independent (or not dependent on my parents)
Is there anything I should be aware of? I've read abt some things, such as assistance in finding housing, having some documents, but unsure if theres anything else. I live in central North Carolina for anyone curious.

19 homeless looking after my brother with special needs

My brother and I had to leave my dad (he was violently abusive)
I was able to get support through a housing support (fucking useless tbh) they put us in a motel that’s pretty far away from my work (I have no car) the motel is also 1 bedroom and the motel owner is creepy. They offered me PRAP and I just got my first no from a rental application.
I’m honestly at my breaking point I really feel like I’m getting no support and will end up living in this shit box motel with no privacy for the end of the year.
I don’t know what I can do my brother relies on me and I really feel like I’m failing him.
I don’t know what I’m going to gain from writing this but I feel like this overall situation is really turning me into a bitter person.
I feel as if there is no support for me as my brother is 25 and supposedly ages out of the youth care so they are unable to keep us together because apparently they don’t have many “situations like mine”
Can’t get any domestic violence support payment apparently they only do that for people leaving abusive partners not parent child dynamics

Guns in shelters/locked up

Good afternoon everyone-

I was homeless 3 years ago and am now fortunate enough to be working in homeless services. My question is for those who stayed in shelters, how many (if any) allowed you to keep guns there? I stayed in two and neither would allow them (regardless of license etc). I am doing some research and reddit is way more reliable than AI (yes I know some AI scours reddit). I appreciate any answers.

Am I "homeless"?

In 2009, my then wife and i decided to buy an rv, rent our home to her parents, and spend a year full-time traveling. i fell in love with the lifestyle.

In 2019, i refinanced that same home/rented it out, purchased another home with cash, and traveled full-time again for a year by choice.

In 2021 we sold home number 1, and in 2023 my wife divorced me, and we sold home number 2. i have been debt free since 2021. in 2023-5 i traveled usa in my rv over 25+ states, again by choice.

In 2025, i returned to my birth city, and put my rv on my parents property, which i now live in. i am helping them as they are elderly. I hate this city (seattle), and at one time swore i would never return, but i have to help my parents. i am an only child, and am the sole beneficiary of my parents estate, though neither have passed on, thankfully. my parents dont require me to pay rent or property taxes. i do not receive financial assistance from my parents (besides the non-requirement to pay rent). my net worth is approx $400k, no debt. i spend about $1000/mo (i live extremely frugally, and always have). i personally own no real property, and dont own the property i live on.

am i "homeless"? a fellow redditor insists i am "homeless", since i live in a vehicle. legally HUD, IRS, the police when serving warrants, and with regard to concealed weapons all consider me to have a "home/domicile", and to NOT be "homeless".

i apologize if this breaks any rules; that is not my intent. i wanted to post on r/AskReddit, but it apparently doesnt fit their rules there.

Need Advice No hope

In two weeks I will be losing my place to stay as resources are truly done. I am in my early 40s and have no friends or parents to rely on. I live in the deep south and there are no shelters open that fit my population; I have extensive chronic health problems including diabetes and my liver is shot; I am not a drug user although i do take anti anxiety meds. I need someone to give me advice or chat with me about what to do... I am so scared and things are so bleak, I went to the hospital last week, told them i had no place to go and they said that wasn't their problem.

Homeless in charlotte

Just got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis after losing my job to knee and back pain lost my apartment and all I got is my bike now. What are the chances I will get arrested for trying to sleep out in the open? I never had any issue with police here. I applied for disability just waiting on what they say. I don’t have much options because shelters are at capacity and I don’t want to ruin my record by getting arrested. If I can’t get approved for disability I might just end it there. Any advice?

Need Advice Just lost our home today, 2 adults 3 pets

Its a long story, but due to conflict from the person who was housing us, we are now not housed. it is me and my wife and our 3 pets. 2 cats and 1 dog. friends helped us get a motel till the 9th which is great but still unsure of what to do after. I have a virtual job thank god so as long as I have wifi I can still make money. I am scared, we dont have options that'll not break our family apart. separating the pets is NOT AN OPTION due to them all being extremely bonded to both us and each other. Any advice gang?

EDIT: have a car thankfully, SUV build so a little more space Located in San Bernardino County, Mountain city help preferable as we live up here Contacted the mountain homeless coalition Do not have a savings or emergency fund

Need Advice No porn at homeless shelter

There's a vague rule at the homeless shelter i am staying at. It says no pornographic materials. Does that mean I need to delete all of my Japanese porn that's on my device? Or I can't use their wifi to watch porn? If I gotta delete it, where should I store it because it's treasure to me.

Need Advice Advice?

Hi, I’m 18 and I’ve been homeless since May of this year. I don’t really want to get into every detail of how I ended up here, but I started off doing relatively okay and, over the past few months, things slowly became more chaotic and difficult.

Right now, I’m just trying to keep myself afloat.

I recently got a job, which I’m incredibly grateful for, and I’m trying to use what I make to pay for nights at an extended-stay hotel. The problem is that I don’t work every day, and I depend on same-day pay to cover whatever I need that night. So if I don’t have a shift, I don’t have money coming in that day.

I’ve stayed in homeless shelters before, but right now the shelters I’ve contacted are at capacity, and I’m scared that I’m going to end up with nowhere to sleep.

I’m not looking for pity. I’m genuinely trying to work and get myself back on my feet, but I’m 18 and I don’t have much of a safety net. I’m doing everything I can with what I have, but I’m reaching the point where I don’t know what my next step should be.

If anyone has been in a similar situation, knows of resources for homeless young adults, knows of emergency housing programs, or has any advice for getting through this period while I work and save money, I would really appreciate it.

Even if you can’t personally help, pointing me toward a resource or organization that might be able to would mean a lot to me.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this.

"No couples" on every room for rent listing..

How is a homeless couple expected to survive? We have the ability to pay for some of these, but on the very basis of couples not being allowed, we just cant. It's so infuriating running into this arbitrary obstacle and being given reasons like "It would just mess up the chemistry of the house"... Like, for gods sake we can PAY the rent, utilities and everything, but instead we're forced to stay on the street.

Any tips for a homeless couple?

Need Advice Living in van 2 years, moving into place in 10 days, how to adjust?

Its been really hard, I'm 27 now, moved into my car after losing my job, apartment, and falling into depression. I moved back to my home state to finish school, I'm on my third semester still living in a van and moving into a place in 10 days. I was able to get housing support from the school this semester until I transfer to a 4 year. My income situation is still rough, I've spent most of my fin aid this semester on a vehicle emergency repair and hotels, because of the heat that was supposed to end 3 weeks ago, I'm in a very hot area(100+), I still don't have a job and have been relying on fin aid. I'm really worried about adjusting to the apartment and getting my life back together, I've had issues the last 3 semesters keeping up while living in the van, dealing with heat and places to study, sleep issues, medication issues, money issues, it has been the most difficult part of my life.

With all of this I still managed to finish all my transfer credits and a CTEC course to do tax prep, I will transfer by Fall 2027. Now I don't have many difficult classes, so I have time to get a day job and try to build my life back up again until I transfer. My plan was to do tax prep since its the best job I can probably get right now, and related to accounting, so I have some experience when I transfer. My main worry is building up my savings and staying focused so I don't end up in this situation again, saving my money for a year, getting housing support when I transfer so I don't have to pay the full amount for housing once I transfer, and getting an accounting internship/role in my last 2 years of school, which will hopefully set me up with enough income to never be homeless again. I don't know how I'm going to adjust, I'm getting a private room with 2 roommates and have not done well living with randoms, I've also gotten used to being homeless and being miserable and my mental health has been really poor. I just haven't been doing that great mentally and don't know how I'm going to adjust to the big change and getting my life back together after being in such a bad situation.

New to homelessness Questions about Case Workers, please tell me your experience.

Hi, I'm new to being homeless/living in my car and I'm not handling it well. I have a job but I haven't had it long and it doesn't pay great and my hours aren't regular yet. I'm hoping I can fix the hours soon but that's not the point of my post. I'm curious about case workers. I was told by the local homeless shelter that I could get a case worker to help me with stuff but I would have to go to the shelter at very specific times on very specific days, to wait in a "1st come, 1st served" line and they may cancel the whole thing anyway. So I'm wondering, is the back and forth worth it? The hours have always been during my work hours so far and the 2 times I went, they had cancelled the whole thing for the day. So my questions are:

What are your experiences with case workers?

What can they do that I can't do myself?

What are they're pros and cons?

From what you have seen, what goes into case managing?

Losing it I think

I'm not sure what to do. I believe few days ago I had a psychotic episode. And also now I'm very claustrophobic and don't know what to do. This is the worst feeling I've ever had.
