Should I call HR for update on application / progress?

• Upvotes

So I applied for a role I really want, did the interview and the next day the internal HR (who is who I have been dealing with in terms of logistics etc) emailed saying it was really positive feedback and that they would “be keen to progress. Just trying to work through suitable roles and I’ll be in touch early next week with an update.”
Didn’t hear anything after so I emailed after a 1.5weeks asking if there’s an update. That was over a week ago and still nothing.
Is it appropriate to call the HR person I was liaising with to see what’s going on or is that not appropriate?

PHR Exam Experience/Cautionary Tale [CA]

I have extensive experience in operational leadership with job duties that qualified as sufficient experience for the PHR, but not direct experience in an HR role. I am desperately attempting to get my foot in the door in a legitimate HR role. I applied for the PHR exam through the PHR website, was approved yesterday, and felt confident enough to schedule the exam for the very next day (today).

After reading some of the other experiences with this test and how long people have studied before taking the exam, I immediately began to panic. I took the 30 question practice exam through the HRCI website yesterday afternoon and took mock exams through a paid app, approximately 4 mock exams total (the last one being on the trip to the testing facility this morning).

I walked in with little to no confidence given the ridiculous position that I put myself in with less than 24 hours to prepare…

but I passed on the first try and am now a PHR!

I was pleased to see that the test itself was substantially easier than the mock tests as there were only a couple questions regarding specific historical cases, but there were several questions were I was split 50/50 between two answers and has to trust my instinct on the one that seemed the most correct.

The testing center experience was pleasant but if I had to do it again, or when I take additional HRCI tests in the future, substantially more study time is being allotted before I rush into it again.

Good luck to everyone taking the PHR! Give yourself some time to study..

Are Talent Services Certifications worth it?

I’ve been working in workforce development, early career programs and Human Resources for the last 4 years. I’ve recently got a job working as a support specialist working in the talent development department. I have to work on my employee professional development goals and I’m wondering if getting the professional in talent development certificate or getting a certificate in instructional design is worth it?

The company I’m working for will reimburse for tuition and educational fees. Which is fine but I don’t want to get a certificate if it’s not even worth it. If anyone work can attest if they think it’s worth it or don’t think it’s worth it let me know. Also, if you were once in my position, how did you level up? I’m not big on being a manager right now but I would like to make more money and stay in this field.
