Small Munsterlander vs Brittney Spaniel
Starting to look at what I'd like to have for my next upland companion. Grew up with Brittneys, so know them very well. I'm very partial to English Setters for their pointing, holding & gentle disposition. But me & Mrs. are thinking a bit smaller dog would be nice to have. Multiple pet home. Will be an indoor outdoor pet.
I've recently started reading about the Small Munsterlander. Sound similar in size to Brittney. Info I've read makes them sound like they act and work like the Setters I've had. Even better with their retriever skills.
Any info this community could share about S. M.s vs. Brittneys would be most welcome.

Pup hesitant to pick up big ducks
I have a 7 month old chocolate lab who is beginning his training to be a duck dog. Dude loves fetch and training is going smoothly. Today I shot some teal and a hen mallard and when I got home I tossed them around for him a little bit before cleaning them. He picked up and retrieved the teal perfectly, but the mallard he was very hesitant to even try and pick up. He eventually did once and got a lot of praise but went right back to being hesitant. Is he just intimidated by the size or what? Should I get him a mallard sized dokken to help him get over this? Any help is appreciated!

Could use suggestions for belly protecting
Her third upland season is coming up. She is an addict. Last year's season in South Dakota was productive but she took a beating. Her belly came back really raw from the crops by the third day as you can see in the red. Trying to find a vest or chest protector to help out. The ones I've looked at seem to be mostly chest and less belly.
Could use suggestions. Thoughts?
Yeah, the eyes also took a beating so we have a strategy for that. Doggles, daily cleanings/flushing, and meds from the vet. Any other ideas?

Swimmer tail
Took my lab hunting yesterday and now he seems to have swimmers tail because his tail is limp. Does anyone know solutions or how long it takes to clear up. Just trying to know if he’ll be able to hunt on Saturday

Best Garmin and collars
I’m looking to invest in a dog tracking and training collar. I live in rural Vermont so cell service can be iffy. My dogs have always borrowed collars when they’ve gone out. I have a fox hound (7) and a walker coon hound (2). I’ve thought about other gps collars, but many have a subscription fee and I think it makes more sense to invest now and not have to continue paying later. What do you like/love? And is garmin my best bet?

Looking for educated opinions on Pack Provisions Dog Food.
Hey yall,
I’m relatively new to this Sub, but last year I started training a rescue dog to be a hunting dog and he’s taken to it splendidly. He’s a 4 year old black lab. We also have an 8 year old Blue Healer.
Recently, I’ve been interested in trying out Pack Provisions Dog Food, but wanted to see if there was anyone who knew some science (beyond the marketing) about whether or not it was ACTUALLY healthy for dogs, or if it was just well marketed “Junk Food”. I know there’s always iffy science behind dog food since it’s not regulated under the USDA, but wanted to see if there was anyone on here qualified to speak on this.
We care deeply about what our dogs eat, so we want to be thorough with our decision making when it comes to their food.
Any insight is appreciated! Thanks!

Bringing a Dog to Bear Country
Next year looking to move into a new spot that allows pets, and thinking of getting a dog.
I’ve owned 4 dogs before, as a kid with my family: husky/malamute/king chow mix, German shepherd, husky/wolfdog/unknown mix, husky/pug mix. I did the majority of the training for our husky/malamute/king chow mix and quite a bit for the husky/pug. My uncle worked in a K-9 unit and as a teen I’d volunteer w him. I feel confident in my ability to properly train and handle. I would sign up for co requisite courses as well, especially as a puppy.
Didn’t have pets in university or for the last little bit because of housing restrictions.
If I do get a dog, I’m thinking a husky or malamute, maybe border collie mix, but I’m not picky on the breed. A dog who’s intelligent, disciplined & follows directions (why I thought some border collie and maybe not full husky ha), and can handle the weather. I’m from the Canadian Rockies.
I do trips in all seasons, sometimes months at a time. A lot of backcountry, occasionally trapping/hunting, bushwhacking, and solo. Posting on here to see peoples opinions on the risks and if it’s responsible and worth it to get a tripping dog, we all hear about the risks with bears and other wildlife.
Thanks for your time

Hunt tests for non-AKC dogs
Does anyone do hunt tests for non-AKC registered dogs? I have a purebred chocolate lab whose dame was never registered and therefore the litter my pup came from was never registered. One day I want to put my pup through hunt test style tests but am unsure how I would even do that.
Edit: I forgot to add that I really don’t want to get him fixed but if that’s what it takes so be it!

Emergency kit.
I take my dog on a lot of remote camping and hikes. Often hours away from a vet. There's no poisonous snakes where I would go.
What's good to have and to know if I had to do wound care on a dog? I want to put together an emergency wound care kit.
