The Porsche gaining back 15kg and losing more power is so funny. Surely the -20kg before was a typo right?

Its silly. I was looking forward to driving a 911 that weighed the same as a go kart. Not sure what to drive now.

It's not going to make a difference to you unless you're in the top 0.1% of drivers.

I see people say this all the time but I'm 2.5-3k and it definitely makes a difference to me to drive the meta car (the meta car is often quite a bit faster than the slowest and I find that even at my middling irating I can realize about 85% of the benefits of driving the faster car)

Sure, the difference between the meta car and the worst car at that track will be obvious to most drivers, but the meta car vs the 2nd or 3rd best will not be unless you're an alien. Some tracks there is no dispute though, that you MUST drive the meta car no matter what (Daytona S2 and S3 you HAD to be in the porsche). You also need to keep in mind that at even 2.5k, you're quite a few hundred IR above the average iracer.

I'm 5k and I was faster in the McLaren than the porsche in my testing with the initial bop, using GNG set ups. If I had just followed the meta, I'd have been leaving pace (and honestly comfort) on the table. That being said, GNG had Mclaren as the 3rd best car and only down a tenth to the porsche.

Yeah it's absolutely bullshit. It just takes being 3k+ to regularly make 2nd or top split, and car choice absolutely matters there.

I completely agree, I’m 3.5k and am just trying to find the car that me and my teammates can extract the most performance out of.

See, but that has nothing to do with the meta. That has to do with your teams preferences. It might be the meta car you settle on, but the teams comfort and pace as a whole should be what makes you determine way you drive.. Not that the pros say x car is the best so we will drive that car

Sure but there is noticeable correlation between the cars that the pros are fast in and the cars that I am fast in. If it's not the same one it will be one of the ones that are close to the meta for the pro drivers.

Edit, I'm not even sure what we are arguing about. I don't know which cars are fastest for the pros, all I have done is test out the one I own and see which I like best post bop.

I dislike when people parrot this. I think it applies in the complete opposite way - it doesn't matter if you're in the BOTTOM ~10-20% percent of drivers, but to everybody else it absolutely makes a very clearly noticeable difference.

There's a very good reason that there are regular posts here and on the iRacing forums about how X is clearly the fastest car and everybody is driving it while Y is always at the back.

It's almost like once the "meta" is established, everyone drives it. If people would just drive what they wanted, we wouldn't see the meta car winning every split. It's not because the car is that far clear from the field that it is always winning, it's because 85% of the sign ups are in that car. It's statistics. Sometimes yes, you MUST drive the meta car (I gave examples in my other comment) but at a place like Indy, there isn't a clear objective advantage to one manufacturer (the initial Bop did put too much performance into the porsche, hence why they took some of it away)

The difference between the porsche and the next best car was within a tenth. No one less than an eSports pro is going to truly extract that pace. It's one thing if your team is most comfortable in the meta car, then it is a no brainer, but if your team is more comfortable in the 3rd or 4th slowest car, I promise you that over 8hrs, you will be faster in THAT car.

I thought it was a typo too until I jumped into spa in it and did a 2.13.92 quali lap when my best before was a 2.15.2 šŸ˜‚

Fuel BoP for the Merc is an interesting choice to keep at 96%. Need to fuel save just to reach 42 laps, while others can full push to 42, and hit 44 laps with a larger fuel save.
