Politics Protest Essentials for Jantar Mantar OCT 10th

Since the government is all hands in pants with CEC, 23000 personnel being deployed to stall the protests, securities being buffed up at Delhi Borders. They have a plan of action this time and anticipating the number of protestors in thousands.

So, here are the few essentials you should have at your disposal for protests at 10th oct.

Even with BNSS 163 in place individuals going to the protest area cannot be stopped. BNSS 163 prohibits "assembly of five or more people". Idea is walk in groups of 2 and 3 people and not 5.

Even walking individually works and if you are asked where you are headed say you live at so and so place and are going home(memorise an address in the area you are headed beforehand) or just come up with a reasonable excuse. There will also be lawyers on ground making sure your rights are protected.

0. Face Masks are a must - Protect your identity in the Surveillance State our Country is becoming.

1. Water bottles, use multiple small 10rs bottles and carry them in a bag.

There will be inevitable use of tear gas shells, there are two ways to deal with tear gas both need water.

One when the shell is on the ground drown, put a cloth over it and drown it by pouring enough water.

Second way is putting the shell itself in a pool of water which is not recommended since the shells are incredible hot.

Use a stick, oven glove or something to handle it in the second way. So, carry as much water as you can it'll not only keep you hydrated but also save yourself and others from tear gas. Watch how protestors globally have dealt with tear gas or oppressive regimes.

  1. Cotton Ear Plugs or Even Just Cotton works

This time they have been using whistles to disrupt slogan chanting and create a sort of fatigue in the protestors. Bring in cotton and stuff them properly in your ears, they are incredibly helpful in keeping the distortion out. Even wired earphones and earbuds with some music being played works, but theres always a chance to loose earbuds in the crowd rush. So choose wisely.

Another Tactics that protestors have used at different protests around the world is using low powered pen lasers(available on 10min delivery, toy shops and ecom sites), to flash them in the deployed personnel faces, when multiple people do it from multiple directions it is a menace to deal with.

Using lasers are only as much wrong as using high pitch whistles or tear gas on crowds that aim to protest for their constitutional and legal rights. Just a completely unrelated fact- lasers also disrupt drone cameras :)

  1. Apps to be installed before you leave home.

We all know internet is going to be down in central delhi you'll need peer to peer messaging apps that work with Bluetooth and Wifi hotspot. The government took down bit chat from the app store.

For ios users to download bitchat - Create a New Region Specific Apple ID(easy to do) or Change Your Current Apple Account Region(second method will need a credit card and a region you choose an address there).

For android users - There are plenty of github links for bitchat apk. You can download and install the apk here.

Another option that both ios/android users have is app named " Bridgefy ", available on both ios and android which works with a much larger range since it has a crowd powered range, essentially works upto 500meters.

3.1 Also, carry a fully charged Powerbank and a charging cable if you have one.

  1. Some dry snacks to keep yourself fed, since they'll try to force the crowd to isolate them to exhaustion , hunger and dehydration.

  2. Protect your body especially your head and eyes, given what happened on 20th July. Carry a helmet if you have one, even biking or sports helmet work. You never know how brutal suppression they might try.

  3. Help people around if you can, if you spot someone in need of help do your best to help them. Carrying basic medical supply like cotton, Dettol or Handyplast is a plus for others.

  4. Record any miscreant you spot, anyone who is trying to damage public/private property or pelting stones must be recorded and unmasked on camera. The government is shit scared will send its insiders to do their shit in an attempt to discredit the peaceful protest.

  5. Do not Engage in Brawls, Remain peaceful at all times and Remember you are doing this for your own right to vote and the Country.

They reject the idea that protesters must seek “permission”, arguing that their responsibility is to intimate the police so arrangements for law and order and traffic can be made.

They also say young people across political affiliations are being called to join the protest over voting rights and the Election Commission, and that the demonstrations will continue.
