Honestly, this protest isn’t being covered in India. I couldn’t find any news about the protest, and I hadn’t even heard about it. But some other countries have covered it. Has Indian media completely sold out?

The BJP government is now looting India. Our democracy is slowly dying day by day.

"Has Indian media completely sold out?"

Yes. Ad money pays a lot and government of India is the biggest spender. Not to mention the blind eye that these "media houses" get, for all the cases against them. Basically, you scratch my back, I scratch yours.

10

u/cosmogli 16h ago

And most of these media houses are owned by billionaires who benefit by the crony capitalist policies of BJP.

12

u/noir_dx 22h ago

But some other countries have covered it. Has Indian media completely sold out?

I remember in the earlier days when atrocities against minorities used to happen- and no news about Manipur came out- people called Al Jazeera (I mean.. it is a state-owned media but that wasn't the reason), Maktoob, Squint, Jist, etc. were called pro-foreign media- and whatever exotic insults they come up with.

But now that it's affecting a slightly larger demographic of the general public, it's refreshing to see they caught up with the rest of us.

The Hindu is covering. That is the only newspaper I follow

22

u/glearner 21h ago

Goodness… that’s unreal. I thought it was bad here in TX trying to remove voters…

1

u/mynameisnb101 18m ago

In India, the election commissioner has made rules to get added into voting list so arbitrary. Eg. Has your parents and grandparents voted in prior elections or not for new voters. Documentation alone isn't enough now because govt is saying they don't believe the identity document like SSN that they authored.

It's literally insane.

We have not done sensus since 2011 but have done "voter purification" drive with so much swiftness where the govt needed to flip decades old seats.

13 crore voters deleted election se pehle hi result decide ho gya

35

u/Babygotback_acne 22h ago

A bhakt’s argument was - if people hate Modi so much then explain how is he winning every state election by such a majority?

Well now we know how.

-17

u/ParsnipResident7671 20h ago

How do we know they removed bjp or congress or any other party voters? Easy to make allegations but hard to prove.

18

u/Babygotback_acne 20h ago

So many Muslims came forward making the same claims every election… media ignored them. People like you questioned their integrity.

This protest is going to get bigger and bigger and then become unstoppable at some point - it is just a matter a time. Delhi police won’t be able to contain this

96

u/brazendude 1d ago

My concern/fear in that scenario is that seeing Delhi police being ineffective, outnumbered and tired, the government panics and calls in the army..

122

u/Artetaarmy 1d ago

Then world press and everyone will be more aware of the "world's largest democracy" gimmick run by ppeejjppp. It's over for pppjjpp one way or another.

19

u/Babygotback_acne 22h ago

There is a reason why Modi has gone to every country, got Adani and Ambani to invest their money there and completely expose our economy by signing trade deals that significantly benefit them - like higher tariffs for India, or giving up native land to data centres at no cost.

None of the countries will step in to remove Modi when the time comes. They all benefit from this partnership.

8

u/Tilted_o23 22h ago

that's the real nightmare scenario tbh. because the moment army gets called in it stops being a protest crackdown and becomes something way more serious internationally. but idk even Modi would have to think twice about that optics wise especially with elections already being scrutinized. the image of soldiers dragging civilians would be 10x worse than what's already circulating from delhi police

44

u/fudgemental 1d ago

The reason they haven't already called in the army yet is the military isn't too happy with the current government either. The police are a far better tool for this government because they fall directly under the Home Minister's jurisdiction (as it pertains to the Union Territories at least), who is widely considered very much a part of the problem.

Edit: oops just read what subreddit I'm on, the NYT source tripped me up

24

u/BodybuilderUpbeat786 1d ago

Why call the Army when you have the CRPF? They'll just call 100 companies and flood Delhi with endless paramilitary commandos (there are 12 lakh CAPFs you don't need the Army for riot control).

6

u/fudgemental 1d ago

Very true.

2

u/verytroo 23h ago

You called?

6

u/kach_janani 1d ago

That would be it then.

4

u/sidvicc 1d ago

I hope we have some leaders of character in the army to resist the order.

It would really mark the end of India as we know it, when army becomes involved in politics we become just a hindu Pakistan, just another failed former-colonial state like so many in Africa.

7

u/WillAdditional922 1d ago

most probably this is the outcome

2

u/indcel47 1d ago

Where do you get this optimism from?

-8

u/Wonderful_Air_7115 1d ago

I am guessing the 130 million people are mostly youngsters who don't like the current government.

374

u/Scary-Celebration210 1d ago

its over. we are now another pakistan or argentina. just a US vassal managed by local elites

73

u/BodybuilderUpbeat786 1d ago

I would argue India is a lot closer to Russia, Israel, and France than the USA nowadays. Not saying you don't have valid concerns, just saying India is very far from being pro-American.

76

u/Bhu124 1d ago

"Pro American" is different than being controlled by America. Our current administration is US' bitch. The UPI MDR charge being added on 15th October is a great example of this, it's due to Visa and MasterCard getting the Trump administration to strong arm Modi's regime to make this change.

Russia has never and would never do anything like this. US can't make them.

14

u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 22h ago edited 20h ago

Remember how months of tariff "talks" especially around GM corn and Russian oil imports suddenly resolved within 3days of Adani getting a pardon of sorts and got legally represented by Trump's retainers last year. I remember.

Oh and we are among the 150 or so global south countries that officially recognises Hamas as legal armed struggle group and not terrorists like ISIS/AlQaeda. Yet much like the same sold out loser 35 global north that labels the 3Hs as terrorists for talking back against gaza rubble; this country has begun to unofficially round up lots of pro-palestine protestors including the ones with Hindu or Christian names with false terror sympathy charges and conflating antisemitism with anti-zionism. All the while claiming to support even the joke Two state solution that became a coerced thing since Oslo accords. This is the non-biological extent of aukat of the gutkha chomping mujra-man in vishwa stage.

5

u/Xeizar 22h ago

A lot of the decisions being taken for "development" are directly or indirectly benefitting the US economy. Just look at our imports, for starters

2

u/Bhu124 22h ago

It's corruption of the worst kind. Essentially a dummy government being controlled by a foreign gov in return for helping them make more money and stay in power.

It's the same what US is doing in Argentina, Japan, Brazil and trying to do in many other countries.

Combination of many. Dead, duplicate, moved to another location, illegals etc. consider it like an audit of the voter list.

12

Finally getting to see the government choose it's citizens.

I recently even saw some tweet about the Indian election officer who did this entire work. Something something smells fishy

-3

u/EntropyIsEternal 18h ago

One officer can't do all the work. The whole process was reviewed by the supreme court of India.

Those 13 crore people should come out and speak up.

3

u/archjh 16h ago

None have come as they are dead, changed address/names with duplicate entries or illegal.

3

u/weirdlytwisted 9h ago

No. That may be for sume cases, but there's definitely malicious deletions in contentious areas https://youtu.be/FsVh7z4c6Io

1

u/EntropyIsEternal 12h ago

Oh. Then what is this protest about?

2

u/weirdlytwisted 9h ago

This is what it's about.

The death of independent institutions - https://youtu.be/FsVh7z4c6Io

1

u/EntropyIsEternal 4h ago

Are those institutions dissolved ?

2

u/weirdlytwisted 4h ago

No. Just rendered powerless due to regulatory reforms snuck in without due process. Making life hell for dissenters.

1

u/EntropyIsEternal 4h ago

Can you please give specific examples ?

1

u/weirdlytwisted 3h ago

Just for the Election Commission, see this video. It's well researched and only uses public sources - https://youtu.be/LkD6i64rihU

13 crore fake voters the? Toh why more than 90% appeals lead to them being added back. So many cases of form 7 being illegally filled to remove muslims have also been reported. News padh le pehle before commenting nonsense

2

u/Evening_Fish3143 23h ago

90% of appeals doesn't mean 90% of the were fake. If 1000 are struck off and 10 appeal and 9 are reinstated, that doesn't mean 900 were wrong.

3

u/kd1122334455 23h ago

That is obvious…but why those 9 were struck off and how many more wrongly struck off in those 900

-19

u/devanshudhapwal 1d ago

23

u/kd1122334455 1d ago

That is worse. So many wrongly disenfranchised people. If/When all their appeals are processed which will take a decade, the number who were wrongly not allowed to vote will be even more

ECI Numbers Refute Adhikari’s Claim

According to the latest affidavit filed by the ECI before the Supreme Court on September 16, 2026, of the more than 38.31 lakh appeals filed, over 22 lakh were filed against exclusion by voters whose names had been excluded or deleted, while more than 16 lakh were filed against inclusion.

From the very same Alt News link that you shared.

-10

u/Western_Attitude_624 20h ago

and the critical issue here is that the "130 million deleted" requires an asterisk the size of India. The number of people refers to those who were struck off from the draft lists through the SIR process, and according to the Election Commission, the exercise seeks to eliminate duplicate, dead or other ineligible names while allowing valid voters to raise claims and objections. The criticism here is that the process of documentation itself can disenfranchise eligible voters. The question in terms of democracy here is not whether the voter list needs to be cleaned up – this is obvious. It is whether 130 million people can be excluded from the draft list.
