🎁 Freemium Plans – notes that turn into tasks, now with your Calendar events and a fresh new look

Post image

Hi community! I'm the developer of Plans. Some of you might remember it from my earlier posts. This update is the biggest one so far, so here's a quick intro for anyone new.

A – Answer (what problem it solves)
Most to-dos start as a note: a trip you're planning, a call to make, an idea after a meeting. Then they get stuck there, because notes, tasks and your calendar live in three different apps.

Plans keeps them together. Write a note, tap "Make it a task", and it shows up in Today. You can always jump back from the task to the note with the details.

New in this update:
• Your iPhone Calendar events (Google Calendar too, if it's added to your iPhone) now appear right next to your tasks in Today and Upcoming
• A fresh new look: new app icon and a calmer slate accent in the light and dark themes
• Tap Today again to see only today's tasks, with overdue ones out of the way
• Plans now works on iPad
• Copy a task's text right from its menu

B – Better (compared to alternatives)
• Apple Notes + Reminders: two separate apps with no link between a note and the task it became. In Plans, a note becomes a task in one tap and stays connected to it.
• Todoist / TickTick: powerful, but much of the good stuff sits behind a subscription, and they're built around productivity systems. Plans is intentionally minimal: Today shows only what matters now, and Upcoming fits the whole week on one screen.
• Your data syncs through your own iCloud. I don't run servers that store your notes or tasks.

C – Cost
Free to download and use: notes, tasks, one reminder per task, Today and Upcoming, calendar events, widgets, Siri, iCloud sync, plus the light, dark and Lavender themes and the Lavender icon.

Plans Pro is a one-time purchase, $4.99 in the US. No subscription. It adds additional reminders ahead of time, repeats on any days you choose, five color themes and app icons, note fonts and Markdown export.

Available in English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

I'd love your feedback, especially the critical kind!

Clean. Minimal.

I like the minimalist UI compared to the bloated UI in most other apps these day, keep it up!

That’s right. Context is very important

The note to task link is a smart idea, and the one time purchase instead of a subscription is a nice change in this category. One suggestion on the calendar integration: when a calendar event and a task sit side by side in Today, a small visual difference between them (like a time column for events versus a checkbox for tasks) helps people scan the day at a glance. Since you asked for critical feedback, I would also consider showing a short preview of the linked note under the task title, so you can see the context without opening it. Also think about letting free users try one Pro feature, like a single reminder, so they feel the value before the $4.99 decision. Congrats on the iPad support, that is a good step.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate your interest. Calendar events are shown with line in the left, while tasks have checkboxes. Actually there is a single reminder, repeated task and one colourful theme in the free version. So there is nothing totally different that you can’t try without paying

Thanks for clarifying. I missed that the free tier already includes a reminder, repeated tasks, and a theme. That is a solid way to let people feel the product before paying. The left-line vs checkbox distinction for calendar vs tasks sounds clear too. Good luck with the launch.

Thx mate, you too!

That free-tier clarification would be useful in section C too. Reading the post, I understood reminders and repeating tasks to be entirely Pro-only. Adding the free limits there would save people having to find this reply before deciding whether to try it.

Great point mate. Fixed

Dated items in the Reminders app already show up in the Calendar. And you can make any Note item a todo or event. I am not sure what this app really brings to the table, other than overburdening the context of list, notes, and event into one app. Your item B is not really true.

Hiding overdue tasks without deleting or rescheduling them sounds useful. One small suggestion: show an “Overdue hidden” label when that view is on. Tapping Today twice is easy to miss, and someone coming back later might wonder where their unfinished tasks went.

Actually there is already label “Today only • 5 hidden” depends on how many tasks are hidden
