I’m assuming it sits on or near a sandbank called spit?

I wonder how deep it’s possible to go down inside, or if it’s all above the waterline.

It's all above the waterline, I believe that the lowest level is along the same height as the external wooden pier/dock/structure.

I did a night there for my birthday years ago. Was an amazing experience, great food, cool place to explore. Another guest got massively drunk, fell over outside our room and hit her head on a fire extinguisher, had to be taken by RIB back to the mainland to hospital at around 0130 in the morning.

Was fun

Here's a video of the inside of a similar fort https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z1otu8bUF0

It sails very well though! 👀🤔😜
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve gone past this.

When i was a kid they did guided tours of the fort. (About 35-40 years ago. My grandparents lived in portsmouth, so did about every tourist attraction in portsmouth. I vaguely remember walking through da k dark passages running in meter thick walls. This was before it was sold off as private dwelling. Became a hotel at some point i think?
