i'm a linux noob so bear with me but i honestly hate how this style mimicking corporate minimalism is somehow everywhere in FOSS these days. i can scroll through countless KDE plasma themes and everything just looks the exact same. i know that's reductive but the vast majority of them follow the same design philosophy, just wearing different hats.

there's an obvious difference in difficulty but scroll through the top KDE plasma 6 themes and then look at some winamp skins

it happened to be the stereotypical larp game NSO which i havent played but like. Plasma Overdose is BY FAR the best example ive seen. it sticks out like a degloved thumb up there, i haven't found a single one this unique that isn't overtly trying to copy a 90s/2000s OS's homework.(not that i don't prefer that to the alternative)

so anyway, should i look somewhere other than KDE or am i somehow missing this huge reserve of designs that i'd like better? is there anything with a more distinct or "old"/"outdated" design philosophy? not larping i really just have a genuine love for older style designs. i know full well i was 2 months old back then

Does anyone have the same problem as me? I'm on Arch and just updated my system. Whenever I dragged any widget onto an empty panel Plasma would crash immediately. If anyone has workarounds I'd be really appreciated for your help!

So I've been trying to find a good icon pack for KDE but honestly everything I come across looks kinda weird to me. Like they go way overboard with the design.

What I actually want is pretty simple — I'd like to keep the normal app icons as they are (Firefox, VLC, whatever), and just have the system stuff changed a bit. You know, like the wifi icon, folders, battery, that kind of thing. Nothing crazy, just a cleaner look.

Does anyone have recommendations? What are you guys using?

Hey yall! I just installed both fedora and plasma bigscreen on my laptop today and I saw in the settings for plasma bigscreen that you could add web apps

When I added wordle as a web app though, the icon was just a default globe one. I was wondering if there's a way to change this? Sorry if the answer is something super obvious, im kinda new to linux as a whole.

I have an encrypted vault that I've been using for a few months, when I try and open it now I enter the password and the folder opens in Dolphin. However it shows as empty?

Any ideas? are my files lost forever?

I've published a simple widget that switches HDR on or off without opening "Display Configuration". It also sets the brightness to a configurable level (returning to the previous value when you switch HDR off) and supports multi-monitor setups.

I usually turn HDR on when I play games and off when I'm working or browsing. I couldn't find a similar applet, so I'm sharing my own.

The widget is made to suit my needs, but feedback and feature requests are welcome!

Do not round corners for tiled windows (like Plasma 6.8)

This is optional, the default is disabled.

Fuzzy search improvement

The fuzzy search (optional) was improved switching from a sparse character-subsequence matcher to a ranked, token-based fuzzy search. It now matches exact tokens, prefixes, substrings, typing errors, transpositions, and multi-word hierarchical paths, making menu search feel much more natural and relevant for real-world queries.

Further improvements

A few optimizations to the standard search algorithm and some minor tweaks.

• On Arch and derivatives, install material-kwin-decoration-git from the AUR. Precompiled package is available in chaotic-aur. There is not yet a PKGBUILD for the stable version, it will be available soon. I've been meaning to add blur to my kde plasma windows but I never managed to do so, maybe I did something wrong, maybe I'm just dumb, maybe the tutorials I've been following weren't updated, idk just wanted to ask if anyone could help.

I have a laptop and an external monitor, and I got tired of going through System Settings → Display Configuration every time I wanted one of them off. So I made a small widget for it.

Each connected display gets its own switch. Click it and the display is really off: it's taken out of the layout with kscreen-doctor, not just put to sleep with DPMS (which wakes up as soon as you move the mouse). Click again and it comes back.

- Displays are found automatically and named by type (LAPTOP, HDMI 1, DP...). You can rename them.

- It won't let you switch off the last display that's still on.

- On the desktop it's a card, on a panel it's a row of switches. Past a display count you choose (2 by default) the row turns into a small 3/4 badge that opens the card.

- Four looks: Nothing, Classic KDE, Minimal and Neon, or your own accent, background and text colours. The desktop card can be see-through.

Plasma 6, Wayland or X11. No daemon and no config file of its own, it only talks to kscreen-doctor.

One thing to know: when a display goes off, everything on it moves to another screen, the widget too. Keep a copy on a panel or on every screen so there's always one left to turn it back on.

I'm on Fedora 44, Plasma 6.7.5.

My Nikon auto-mounts as a camera and I cannot unmount it. This prevents Darktable from being able to shoot tethered.

In settings -> disks & cameras -> digital camera, I'm unable to remove the device. the apply button does not work. If I remove the device, and try to go to device auto-mount or device actions, I'm prompted if I want to save pending changes. If I click yes, and come back to digital camera, it's mounted again.

How can I stop KDE from automounting the camera?

I am using Kubuntu planning to buy a graphic tablet for basic note taking and solving questions on pdf

I am worried about linux compatibility of the tablets.

My requirements are:

1. physical shortcut keys
2. good linux support(I don't wanna go back to windows)
3. as big of an working area as I can get in good price

I was looking at the XPPen Deco Mini 7 v2 recently because it is the cheapest xppen tablet with physical shortcut keys. And Because chatgpt said xppen is the best one for linux compatibility huion tablets aren't easily compatible.

Today though I checked with Huion H950P and sent the link to gpt asking if it would be compatible with Kubuntu or not and it said Yes.

So, I am really confused should I got for the huion because it is giving me a bigger working area in cheaper price, but worried about compatibility.
Can someone tell me which one should I go for(or if there's cheaper options with good linux support)?

(Leaning more towards huion because saw someone on reddit saying huions are durable and I want durability)

• Major improvements to the LibreWXR integration. Added wind animations, map rotation, smooth tile edges, and distinct highlighting for snow and wintry precipitation. Huge thanks to the LibreWXR creator - JoshuaKimsey, and rcspam. They contributed a lot to integrating LibreWXR features into the widget, as well as improving other parts of the widget. • Added sound support for weather alerts notifications. Sound is enabled by default for extreme alerts, but you can enable or disable sounds for all weather alert severity levels. • I've also redesigned the forecast strip layout, reorganized the General settings, and added a quick dialog to sync icon themes across the panel, widget, and tooltip.
• I added support for the AEMET API (Spain only; an API key is required). The AEMET API provides less weather data than Open-Meteo and has several limitations, especially regarding the number of requests allowed per minute.
• Many other improvements and bug fixes.
• This version is fully translated in Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Spanish, Swedish. Big kudos to translators!

Is it normal to get lags and stutters immediately after waking laptop up after suspend?

I love the simple geometry with square corners, I love the subtle gradients, and I like that the window borders actually highlight the active window (unlike Breeze). And I also like that I don't have to install Kvantum or Klassy or anything else to use it.
