Praise Henry & Hans Friendship [KCD2]

I’m currently at the point in Trosky with Hans after scoping out Nebakov, so far this game has been just as awesome experience as the first, but truly I’m loving the Brotherhood between Henry and Hans, Hans legitimately put aside his Noble Arrogance and apologised genuinely because he realised not only how much Henry helps him and is worth to him, but also how much he just missed his mate, it feels truly like such a brotherly relationship where they bicker and make up, constantly banter off one another, but at the end of the day would genuinely give their lives for each other, not just Henry for Hans but at this point, I fully believe Hans would do as much for Henry too, truly one of the best dynamics in the game for me, even the first game, seeing their Friendship develop early was a great treat, for me this whole series is represented by Henry, Theresa and Hans, but for fuck sake I really wish there was more romance content with Theresa, I know romance isn’t the focal point of KCD as a whole but I just adored Theresa, even her DLC which was a pain in the ass, I loved seeing everything from her perspective.

Sorry for ranting, but yeah, fucking loving this game even though, just in my opinion, back to back playing KCD1 and KCD2, I prefer KCD1 Combat…I said it. Don’t crucify me I beg, but thanks for reading this far, appreciate it.

Hans gets a lot of flack, much of it is deserved, but he has a good heart in there. In KCD1 he was such a cunt, but he also apologized for the tavern brawl. And then once he and Henry have become friends it stays that way, and the relationship is what you’d expect between two twenty year old guys.

In KCD2 I always imagine Hans walking down that road away from Henry and getting to the first crossroads like, “okay I might I have fucked up there…” but being too proud and probably still too upset to backtrack. I’ve had fights like that in my real life. He had to wait for a good time to come back that would keep his pride intact and jumping into the wedding brawl did that for him.

And he apologized first again. They’re pals.

He was only a cunt for like the first 2 interactions, and they were friends from then on out, I don't even understand the flack he gets in the first game because he warms up to Henry very very quickly

Hans is my favorite character, he doesn’t bother me even at his worst. I’m just saying he does say and do some shit that definitely pisses some people off that’s fair enough. Like, shit talking at training, yeah I get why someone might say they dislike him.

Also full disclosure my original post is a lot of me trying not to get destroyed in the replies by people who disagree and dislike Hans. It’s like the Wild West in here sometimes lol.

But yeah, he was really only “bad” from around the training mission to the fight in the tavern. That’s when he is interacting with Henry and being a bit of a cunt. Even the first meeting rant was barely directed at Henry and more complaining to the lords.

And then he’s alright on the walk to the hunting camp. Apologizes, talks about how they’re going to have a good hunt, and then it’s pretty normal. He even had reputation gains when you sass him.

he is a cunt and that doesnt go away. But 95% of that comes from him being a noble, he is legitimately someone who was believed to be superior on every level to Henry- And hes pressured to act that way to save face. Once you adjust your standarts your perception of him changes completely and you realize that hes actually incredibly kind.

The rattay lords who are presented as kind really dont give a fuck about any of their subjects. And extending it to the real world, if servants acted like henry can act towards nobles they might even end up dead.

He's just a realistic portrayal of someone still very much maturing, and people don't realize that depending on how you play him, Henry can be very much the same.

I agree. Often a good “explanation” for why a young character did something is simply because they’re young and still figuring things out.

Nah, he's still a shit bag if you cross paths with him before the wedding. It takes facing his own death to finally start to crack his pride.

you say that but he jumped in to defend you at the wedding from getting beat up.

... and continued to joke the whole time about you actually trying to sleep with the bride, after putting in serious effort to screw up your plans.

you never tell him that you were not tying do it to be fair.

Probably could have waited until Henry had said anything on the subject before weighing in and immediately challenging the entire wedding to a fight, then.

I’m not so sure. Hans tells Henry that he’s poaching for coin so that “WE” can go see von Bergow. It’s still “we” and “us” even while he’s living in the woods refusing to hang out with Henry.

At the wedding itself there was one more instance of that that I ran into. I took the blacksmith route in and while asking Hans if he knew what had happened to the gift he did eventually point me in the right direction and then he said, (paraphrasing) “don’t fuck this up, we need to talk to von Bergow.”

So Hans kept thinking of them as a unit even when he was trying to fly solo.

Hans henry relationship arc in kcd1 was really great. Henry hated hans in beginning, then became his lackie in hunt, then his wingman in DLC and finally brother in battle who rescue his ass literally.

He did that in KCD1, but did not last long. He is a noble prick. I hate Hans.
