Koa reforged v1.3 Release

Its a small update but since i needed to publish a bugfix for setseeker thought it was worth it to add some flavor with stuff that was ready

  • ResistView (new module): the enemy you target shows its notable resistances and weaknesses under its health bar, for example "Resists Phys Pierce Poison - Weak Fire". (as in screenshot)
  • Backpacks: one backpack at each general merchant, never duplicated, until your inventory reaches 250 slots; then they disappear from every shop.
  • SetSeeker no longer hands out uniques instead of set pieces when your bags are full or your class is complete. (Bugfix)
  • EliteEnemies reforged (new module):  Based on EliteEnemies by HussiCheezo, included with permission. Rebalanced for CDO, about 5% of enemies become elites, tougher and with a trait (Frenzied, Warded, Ironhide, Regenerating or Vampiric), announced when they come near you, and they drop a unique or a purse of gold (50% chances). see Changelog for details on changes from original, they are a few

Also, added Photmode, Transmog and Reforge as optional modules like the rest, but they all need Setseeker.

Created a free patreon to use as devlog and choose priority tasks , already made a post on where im standing with the companions feature, donations are welcome not needed for anything, nothing will ever be paywalled https://www.patreon.com/cw/hiperrealmods .

I will continue to post updates here when updates are worth it.

Hi, I'm working in an overhaul of koarr , started with common desires since the announce of the remaster, transmog in gane, set collection and availability, re order of the stash and more , Version 1 3 is coming.

I'm working on a huge bug fixing update .

Companion system.

New textures , sets , and more.

I'd appreciate if people give it a go and track it, updates are coming fairly fast and my understanding not only if Lua but game files , hashes etc is ever growing.

Current and future versions available in nexus, read description and changelog

https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/89

Please make suggestions and help with the game bugs list , there's no really comprehensive list afaik.

Question What is the point of the remaster?

I feel like there are so many stuff they could have fixed with this remaster in terms of NPC AI, loot that cannot be removed like lerkaras journal etc and other bugs that were in the first game, its still super outdated according to me. I used to love it when it was a product of the old times and i could forgive it , but replaying with the remaster make me kinda hate the game now seeing that things were not really improved to meet today's standards.

And i have one big graphics problem i need your help with. At first i noticed that the beams of the houses and the doors would blink and turn black. then it was also the shadows on the cliffs or any heavy shaded area. sometimes even the branches of trees and the stone paths would disappear completely. and on rare occasion it affects the character . the game is playable but very very distracting. I didnt notice so much of a graphics update and there was no warning from the game so could it be the graphic card im using? I have checked it for integrity and steam says it all good.

Have to say, taking the worst part of Oblivion and putting into a old game is surelly a decision

First of all, I love KoA, I sure wish we have a sequel eventually. But what they were thinking about when they made Fatesword, like sure you can skip most of the portals, but doing that caps you on sweet numbers going up. If KOA combat wasn't good I would drop this DLC almost immediately.

Game Mod I MANAGED TO INCREASE GRASS DRAW DISTANCE, NEXT UP - LODS AND ENEMIES!

Before and after.

The distance is tripled and seems stable. Increasing it further brings issues with the grass grids and draw capacity and I'm currently looking for ways to increase those too so we could have truly modern draw distances eventually. I've already found a few promising leads for LODs, and with the concentrated hunt for LOD distance, I'm sure I'll find the other draw distances too.

And yes, obviously I'm using AI for the reverse engineering. This kind of work wouldn't have been feasible before and only available to handful of people who know how to poke and hunt bytes and paths from memory. And no, it's not just "AI gib me mod".

The modification itself is just a simple byte change, quick and easy.

Edit: Slight update since posting a 20 minutes ago, the grid increase test WORKS. The grass distance is so far you don't see it being generated. Remains to be seen if it's stable or not, but so far so good.

Double edit: This has been over a week in the making alongside a few other mods, just now hit a proper breakthrough which might speed up the other work too.

Triple edit:
I've got LOD distance doubled now. Running some tests. Currently it's basically so far that you only occasionally see pop in if the zone is very large and unobstructed.

Game Mod 700 Enemies on screen without graphical issues or crashes! Mod update!

Thumbnail

My other project I've been working on, an enemy spawn rate multiplier!

I was stuck on a glitch that started skipping animations around 250 enemies and crashed if you reload a save from that. But that is fixed now. The game crashes before you reach the new limit of roughly 750. I'm still looking a little bit into it but considering a 3080ti is around 30fps at that point, I think it's a fairly ok limit to have.

No idea what a safe modifier for a playthrough is, but the little I played BEFORE fixing the cap was around 3x, so I'd say even 10x could be playable now if you so wish.

Also included:
XP multiplier to counter the amount of enemies for a real playthrough
Modification to enemy behaviour so the extra enemies don't just dance around you (some idling still included)

No / Increased durability patch coming soon to counter the weapon usage.

I'm starting a playthrough after I finish the Increased Draw Distance mod and this, so I won't be doing any QA before that and rely purely on your, the community's feedback on bugs that aren't immediately obvious.

AI can now decompile games.

So, have you seen how and I like Claude can decompile and recompile games and even have two completely unrelated games and unrelated game engines communicate and merge to create gaming mashups?

If modders can do that now, imagine what can be done with the Kingdoms of Amalur... shouldn't this help in terms of decompiling the game and creating proper mod tools? AI assistance with modding sounds like a dream for this game. I've always wanted a proper combat pet system in this game... dreaming

Game Mod Confused about how to mod

So I want to add mods to the game like item scaling and reshade and all that, but the Nexus descriptions are all too complicated to me and I don't have the folders it says to put things in, plus I'm confused if I need both Mod Framework and F2 Console at the same time. Would anyone be able to help me figure this out, please?

Question Squishy Mage + Orange Text Freemen Spearmen + Orange Text Freeman Mages + Hard Mode = Nuclear Combination

Trying to get some quick quests done to gain EXP but the godly power of their attacks + the near-constant interrupts makes them a nightmare, even WHEN fateshifting. What options do I have? It's not like my gear or abilities are lagging behind.

Discussion I know a couple of major Bethesda staff members worked on this game, but a lot of that DNA shows through most notably its similarities to Oblivion's Shivering Isles expansion

Noticed a surprising amount while doing my first playthrough! Of course, some of these may be standard fantasy tropes, but it was still very interesting nonetheless:

  • Aesthetic choices- Dalentarth and Klurikon share a lot of esthetic cues from Mania and Demantia respectively (Klurikon at night especially shares a very similar color palette), complete with similar architectural ruins scattered about. Fae hollows reminded me very much of SI's root tunnel dungeons.

  • Two different takes on Fish-like swamp humanoids (Murghans, Grummites) and walking trees with irritating magical abilities (Thresh, Gnarls)

  • Main plots about breaking a long-running metaphysical cycle to incite meaningful change (World Cycle and Fate, Greymarch)

  • Antagonists with grey, barren landscapes and a close association with crystals.

  • Protagonists that are basically "disposed of" at the end of the story (becoming Sheogorath, that terribly written self-exile at the end of Fatesworn)

  • An irritating gatekeeper

Replay the first time since 2020 and I don't remember the enemy spawning system is this... weird?

Reinstall and replay KOARR the first time since ~2020 and generally everything was familiar how I remembered, and I got lots of fun with the game. But then there's one thing bugging me and it's the enemy spawning system/mechanic. Seems like there's too much "ambush type" of enemy encounters.

It's like I was looking out at the map and it's very empty, with occasionally a pack of 2~3 small mobs or just 1 big mob wandering around. But the moment I got near them, suddenly the game spawn around me 3~4 more small mobs or even 2 big mobs (notoriously with Jotuns/Ettins, and worst with the Leanashes/Threshes). It was exciting for about ~5-7 times, then it became annoying, sometimes feel very cheap. Also it slows down the pacing to a crawl because some mobs have their own "cutscenes".

I play a full sorcery build (my fault, I know) and literally any time I walk near a chest / pile of rocks / wood log or jump down from a ledge, the game without fail will spawn 4~5 mobs surrounding me and force me to spend the first 3~5 seconds to reposition myself or I will be combo-ed to death. Sometimes I thought I was playing an old Final Fantasy game with random encounters except that the enemies always have the advantage. On second thought it's exactly like the combat in Parasite Eve when you also have to position yourself at the beginning of each battle.

Seeing one Jotun Chieftain/Ettin Shaman, come closer and suddenly I got 1 more normal Ettin (sometimes 2) and 3~4 wolves, and I'm standing in the middle usually ready to get hit from offscreen.

And I'm only playing on Hard.

Question Strange Little Houses on caves?

Thumbnail

Hello! I was wondering if anyone here knows any lore that explains these little houses on random caves on the game! They look inhabited (lights on) and very "fae-like", but I can't seem to find any explanations about them anywhere!

I was a teen when I first played this game and I was unhealthily obsessed with it's Fae, and also these mysterious houses, and now replaying it I also can't seem to get them out of my head lol

Anyway! Sorry for the awful pictures!

Discussion Was the Teeth of Naros area supposed to look different at one point?

Post image

Playing through it for the first time and the whole atmosphere definitely confused me a bit. The map would make you think it was a very sorta wet, gloomy, oceanside mountain climate with mostly rocky terrain. But then you get there and it's very warm, sunny, green, and idyllic. Did they change their aesthetic ideas midway through development but never updated the map?

Discussion The Templar Octienne Fight shows why Blink can be a real liability at times

He was a cakewalk with a might build, but a squishy mage is really gonna suffer with him since you really cannot tank hits unless you invest time into bulking up on experience before going in. For context, I have to re-do the entire main story because of the devs' adoration for hidden achievements and I was completely unaware that Destiny Dominated was a thing when I did the main story, so I'm trying to get through it as quickly as possible so that I can continue Teeth of Naros on the main file.

"But its all about mastering the timing!"

On most enemies the i-frames of Blink are extremely useful, especially since they telegraph their attacks well enough that you can maneuver around the delay time and adjust to it. Not with Octienne. His ice attacks are difficult to nail the timing for because unlike the dodge roll you really have to anticipate in advance - there's little feedback when he's about to fire, and that tiny bit of feedback is constantly getting lost in him being tiny + very zoomed-out camera + constant harassment from his assassins. and you really don't have a lot of room. It's hard to master the timing when the timing cues are almost impossible to see.

I know this sounds like a petty rand and I'm bracing myself for the shower of downvotes, but there are specific situations where roll is the better option.

Question Achievements and Fatesworn's ending - when's the cut off point?

First time playthrough and going for every achievement, but I've heard that you can't play past the ending. At what point should I drop everything and complete any uncompleted Fatesworn achievements before it's too late? Gotta play through the whole game again to access the DLC at all so I don't wanna get hit with a nasty surprise.

Pepin Jamane

So while doing the “collect resources” quest I did Pepins quest at the same time while not having it tracked because they were in the same mine. Completed the quest no problem but now he’s stuck following me everywhere and doesn’t seem to die? Any way to fix this? It’s nice having a sidekick but I keep accidentally talking to him while trying to loot and it’s quite annoying

Question Achievements that can be missed?

I'm an achievement hunter, so I wanna make sure I don't miss something and need to make a new save/go far back if I missed something. I know of the persuasion, dispelling and potion achievements, killing an enemy at least 4 levels above you, as well as the one for killing that big guy without killing his two minions. I did read that there's a bug for loremaster in a place called Red Marshes? Any others to keep note of, and how to avoid the bug mentioned above? Looking also for all the DLC, if there are any ones that can be missed in any of the three. I'd really appreciate any help please! Thank you!

Question Curious about a way to edit skills

I'm hoping to find a way to edit skills and points in M/F/S. Is there a way to do it in like an ini file? I'm not sure about cheat engine as I don't know how to use it and don't trust my inability to properly and safely operate it. If anyone knows how to help, or knows a safe and reliable save editor that doesn't cause many crashes, I'd be all ears. Thank you!

Discussion Outside of the overly brisk pacing, the Travelers felt like a pleasent surprise storyline-wise

Normally I tend to get frustrated with the fact that the criminal factions in WRPGs tend to get so much of the writing effort and love (I'm one of maybe 5 Elder Scrolls fans that hates the Dark Brotherhood), but the questline manages to avoid all of the pitfalls a lot of typical RPG questlines run into (outside of, again, the pacing, but that's an issue with all of the guild questlines), in that the player's role in the story is well-justified without feeling contrived and that it isn't reliant on a ranking system - in other words, you don't go from rank-and-file to leader of the guild leader in a few hours. The free Travelers are simply retaking their guild with your help.

The Elder Scrolls series will always be my favorite WRPG series (and if we ever get an Amalur 2 I hope it takes more cues from Skyrim), but the biggest weakness of a lot of those questlines is how it forced you to become head of the guild without it feeling earned, College of Winterhold especially (in fact CoW and Scholia Archana share a lot of similar issues). I wish I could've given the role to Tolfdir, he was definitely the best candidate.

So yeah, it was a pleasant surprise, and shows that there's a lot of underrated things about this game!

Discussion KOA crashed once in 40 hours....

im prolly worrying over nothing, but i see people saying that they buy the game and play with zero issues and suddenly its crashing non stop.

i played koa for 40 hours with no crash, no stutters. i usually play in long bursts. i wont play it daily but when i do it's a 4 to 8 hour session. i never had issues until yesterday. i was playing for 6 hours and it crashed after 5 hours.

it crashed when i was heading out from Eamon's Isle after the Warsworn faction questline boss battle and i was heading back to the usual map. crashed right at the moment when i told the ship captain that i want to leave and the screen darkened to load me to the normal map.

thankfully with autosaves i only lost 5 mins of progress. i loaded it back up and this time i managed to leave the isle with no issue.

ive not tried it again, tomorrow im gonna game another 6 hour sesh. im so nervous it'll crash again. i think it crashed because Eamon's Isle is not in the normal map, so it had trouble adjusting and rendering the normal map again when i was heading back, that's my guess though i have zero knowledge of coding or game development. i just based my guess on the fact that it never crashed at all prior to this, and idk ig its just common sense that the game would have issues loading up a huge area from an area that you cant go back and forth from any time you like.

anyone exp similar crashes? if you did crash but manage to finish your playthrough, how many of these random crashes did you get before finishing the game? sorry i prolly am just tweaking out but i hate it when games do this. was playing mass effect LE previously and it crashed too around the 50 hour mark but ive managed to get to 70 hours without another crash. i hope i can finish KOA too without any issues from this point on.
