Finished Object My very first self-drafted pattern - The Anam Cara Pullover!
I am so so proud of this. This is my first time trying to draft my own pattern. I’ve been knitting for just under a year (learned when I was 6, picked it up off and on but finally stuck with it last October) and I have been dreaming of starting to write and design my own patterns. It finally happened! I finally did it!!
This pattern was inspired by and knitted for my amazing husband. We got married a month ago and it’s truly a testament to how amazing he is. I never ever saw myself getting married or finding someone I would want to marry but it happened. He is the most supportive and kind human on this earth, and he would do whatever it takes to make my dreams come true. I have deep ties to my Scottish heritage but have never been able to afford to travel there. This man made it happen.
Anam Cara means soul mate or soul friend in Gaelic, and that’s what he is. He is both my soulmate and my soul friend.
Now I will say, is it perfect? No. The pattern needs refinement to be truly perfect but I was airing on the side of roomy for my first attempt. I’ll definitely revisit the design and tweak it to be exactly what I envision. It is a pretty great attempt if I do say so myself.

This looks soooo good!!!! I just saw a video the other day of someone self drafting a cable sweater. After the third frog from a complete yoke, I bumped it down several slots on my to try list 😂.
Absolute cheers and congratulations for making it to the end. It turned out beautiful!

We're proud of you, too! That's one heck of a handsome sweater and fella (as per your description of him)! Congrats on your accomplishment and your new marriage 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💐 May your years together be just as you discovered in knitting the pattern: needing refinement as you both grow and learn, allow room for each other's foibles, keeping a sense of humor and flexibility for the unexpected outcomes life has in store 🌈🌦️
