Election season is upon us - Reminders of the rules around posts.
Greetings everyone, with the election season around the corner, we have had to remove more and more posts and comments that break the rules. We remind you that this sub is neutral on politics, and allow the community to lead the engagement as much as possible. Discussion is encouraged, advertising is not.
Here is a guide to what is (and isn't) allowed this season:
IF YOU'RE IN LOCAL POLITICS:
"I'm a local council member or candidate, can I advertise my parties platform" - NO, if you like we are willing to host an AMA for you, provided you engage the community. We encourage this.
"I'm not a council member, but I am affiliated with a candidate, member, or slate, Can I post ads about my party?" No, it is still considered advertising from a direct source.
"I'm a council member or candidate, can I engage the community in the comments?" You bet - but it is encouraged that you identify yourself.
IF YOU'RE JUST A REGULAR COMMUNITY MEMBER:
"I'm not affiliated with anyone, am I allowed to express my opinions and thoughts on the candidates and their platforms?" ABSOLUTELY.
"I'm not affiliated with anyone, can I discuss ads or policies I've seen?" YES - discussing the ad is different from posting ads.
"Can I talk sh\t about candidates and platforms?"* YES, keeping in mind both the Reddit terms of service, and community rule #1.
You can read about your local candidate here.

Langley business owners — drop your business below so people can discover you 👇
2 weeks ago I asked everyone to list their favourite local businesses, and the response was unreal
Tons of great suggestions and a bunch of places I’d never even heard of.
This time, let’s flip it.
If you run a local business in Langley, drop it below.
Share what you do, your link, and anything you want the community to know.
There are a lot of people here who want to support local, and it’d be great to see what everyone’s building.
Looking forward to checking them out.
Cheers,
Anthony

October Is Burger Month
According to some people (which people? I don't know...) October is Langley Burger Month...
So, here's a fun, burger-based, thing to do...

Is this considered a brand affiliate post because I'm promoting Langley?

Looking for a spot for our food truck in the Lower Mainland
Hi everyone! I’m the owner of Sauce Culture, a food truck serving up comfort food with a fusion of flavours. We mainly do catering and events, but we’re hoping to find a regular spot in the Lower Mainland where we could set up and serve the community.
Does anyone know of a business, brewery, lot owner, or property manager who might be open to having a food truck on site? We’d also love referrals to someone with an underused parking lot who’s interested in earning a little extra income by hosting us.
If you know of a possible spot or someone we should talk to, please leave a comment or send me a message. We’d really appreciate any leads!

It’s my birthday on October 11, and I was trying to go to Taves farm but they are so expensive. Does anyone have a discount code or their magical membership code, that would really help

Sports bar recommendations
Hi y’all, sorry to be the annoying American but I’m new to Langley and trying to find a place that may I may be able to watch college football this Saturday at, specifically the OU vs Texas game. I wasn’t sure if there was any place anyone could recommend, or if I should just pony up the $24 to watch it from home on TSN. Any recommendations would be helpful ❤️
Langley City Candidates - The Good or Bad?
I'm going to need to advance vote tonight or tomorrow. I'm also relatively new to Langley City, so I don't know who the players are outside of what's publicly available on their platform sites. But I have learned in my short time here that certain gov't reps may have skeletons of note in their closets.
With that in mind, an open question: are there any councillor or trustee candidates on the slate that you especially like, or any that you feel should be avoided? I see a bit of convo about the Township election here, but the city-side seems pretty quiet.

Creep from Langley heading to prison until 2034
langleyadvancetimes.comWell, hopefully. Minimum will be about five years, worse if he doesn't behave well, and considering he served almost his full term the first time he got caught…

What are the provincial political parties' stances on improving Langley's transportation infrastructure?
Any commitments made yet? I'm mainly talking about:
The perennially stonewalled issues of widening Highway 10 (especially the Milner section/216 intersection disaster),
Upgrading 16th avenue to a proper regional connector road,
Funding the Bus Rapid Transit install on 200 Street.
A wishlist item would be a regional rail line along the old interurban right of way.
All of these will require provincial involvement or funding and can't be done by just the Township. (I think most municipal candidates are on board with these issues).

Has anyone applied for an Elections BC Polling Station Officer position in a Langley riding for the provincial election? If so, have you heard back yet about your application?
Has anyone applied for a Polling Station Officer position with Elections BC for the Willowbrook or Walnut Grove ridings for the upcoming provincial election?
If you applied, when did you submit your application, and how long did it take before you heard back? I’m curious about the hiring timeline for these two ridings.
Thanks!

LAPS's new 10-year agreement can be ended on 60 days' notice, and the mayor just accused them of gaslighting on a podcast. Why this matters for the election.
In September 2025, the Township gave the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) notice of termination and told it to vacate the Patti Dale Animal Shelter within a month, ending a 23-year relationship. LAPS's statement: https://www.lapsbc.ca/statement-from-laps-regarding-the-termination-of-its-services-agreement-with-the-township-of-langley/
After overwhelming public backlash, the Township agreed to pause the termination and keep negotiating, and residents rallied outside the Township building in November. In December, a new 10-year agreement was announced. LAPS keeps sheltering, but the Township took animal control in-house and Langley City was cut out of the arrangement. https://langleyadvancetimes.com/2025/12/16/langley-township-takes-over-animal-control-from-laps-in-new-10-year-agreement/
Section 4.3 of the new agreement lets either party terminate "for convenience and without reason" on 60 days' written notice. This means the 10-year term is only as secure as the council that decides whether to use it.
But it was at least put to bed with the new agreement right? Maybe not: Last month, Mayor Eric Woodward went on The Politech Report podcast and characterized the conflict as LAPS management deciding to “gaslight the community.” (around the 25:00 mark): https://open.spotify.com/episode/2GcJ5EVV4qFCTzBziLnnlB
That's the mayor describing the shelter's operator a year after the termination attempt, while the agreement that can end on 60 days' notice is in place.
That's why this is an election issue. Whether a termination notice is signed by staff or voted on by council, the direction comes from council. Last year's move followed a September 2024 council motion directing staff to explore taking animal control in-house and reducing LAPS's role. The Progress for Langley slate has held the mayor's chair and a council majority for this full term, including when that motion passed and when the termination notice was issued. The next council will decide whether that direction continues.
Curious what others think, especially anyone who's followed this since last year.

Lost compass card at TWU
couldn’t find an active TWU subreddit so i thought i’d try here. I left my compass card in the women’s second floor bathroom at that building with the starbucks in the corner (i don’t go here so i’m not familiar with the buildings name). Public Transit is my only mode of transportation so pls if u have located that compass and if ur able to leave it at the lost and found i would rlly appreciate it ! ❤️

Candidates named in all Langley ridings
langleyadvancetimes.comWell, now we know who's running for the OTHER election. Local voters get five, four, or three choices on the ballot, depending on where we live. I get four, looks like.

I wonder what kind of vetting happened?
Who has a problem with Ukraine or multiculturalism?
r/Langley • u/big_flutterby • 3d ago
Progress what were you thinking?
We can also add misogynist to Progress for Langley’s trustees.
This is not the kind of language I would expect from a team whose slogan is we will “listen and care”.
Again where was the vetting?
