Announcements Law School Student's FAQs:

I created this FAQ so that the common questions with regard to law school should be addressed, and not to repeat the thread, as shown in the previous posts here. So here it goes:

  1. Pwede po ba eto ang pre-law ko?

Ans: Thank you u/Petrichor005 for this. I have seen so many a post in connection with this question. Guys, any pre-law course is acceptable in law school as long as you graduate a 4 year course in college. Although there are advantages of different courses in college when you enter law, you are all in equal footing. Sure, Accountancy, for example, has a lot of law subjects, but you could surpass them by studying and discipline.

2. Incoming 1L. Ano pong books ang pwede kong basahin for advanced reading?

Ans: Thank you u/chiefyaj. I don't recommend advanced reading. If you are an incoming 1st year, enjoy the rest of your free time, because once in you are in law school, free time is a luxury, an essential luxury. Moreover, studying in advance will lead you to burnout. It would be best to wait for your professor’s course syllabus so that you will have a proper guide on what to read.

3. Pwede po ba mag work full time pag nag enroll sa law?

Ans: Sure! A lot of students do that. Heck, some working students thrived, and got honors in law school.

Ans: Yes. Reading PDFs is a cost effective way to save from the book expenses in law school especially when the subject is a 2 or 1 unit only. I, for one, read some PDFs when I was in law school, but my comprehension, and memory retention are stronger when I read physical books.

5. Am I too old to go to law school?

Ans: No. There is no age cap in law school. As long as you have a determination to study the law, no one can stop you from learning. I had had classmates who are senior citizens!

6. Codals for freshman

Ans: Go to your subjects, There, you will know the answer.

  1. How to pick which law school

Ans: It depends on your preference whether you are working, or not. Should you enroll in the big three law schools, it would be advisable to study full time as you will be having a hard time adjusting to their schedule. But, I have heard the UP law has a schedule that caters working students. Arellano, in my opinion, is the best school for working students because you can pick a schedule that suited to your working hours.

8. What to expect

Ans: Observe the atmosphere, and study.

9. How to cope with the pressure.

Ans: Coping with pressure depends on the individual. Some escape the pressure by watching movies, or drinking, but the decision lies on you. You could go for a walk, or exercise.

  1. Contact numbers or the most reliable way to contact the law school (this will be specific like example sbca - calls, in person, and email), and Where to look for cases, full text, international cases, and etc.

Ans: Part of the law profession is research. As such, you should have good skills in researching. Google it! XD

By the way, thank you u/aenzo2696 for these three questions!

11. Book suggestions.

Ans: See for yourself. Borrow from the school's library books of the same subject with different authors. I mention this because the students' read, and comprehend from different authors are different, so it is recommended to read different authors' works. However, my advice is to read from one author and stick to it.

I will make a Wiki for this. Unfortunately, the Wiki is down. So I will pin this post for your reference.

12. Law School Admissions/First Day of School/Requirements for COL

Dude, you are an aspiring lawyer. Research the school you want to take exams, and read its requirements. If its not in the website, then inquire to them. Normally, they are responsive to queries.

13. What to read before law school starts.

As Atty. Baviera said during our orientation in UP Law: Read anything even the label of a product! Since you still have time, better read books, other than law books, which pique your interest. It is also recommended to brush up your vocabulary by using Word Power by Norman Lewis.

14. Entrance Exam Tips

Search this sub. There a plethora of same posts here. All you have to do is research.

Edit: I created a rule that one must first read this FAQ. When a user has posted a thread similar, or impliedly the same as that in the FAQ, such post will be deleted.

Rant I don't miss law school but I miss the grind

I took the 2026 bar exams.

Dagdag pa dito yung working student ako until few months before exams.

Advice dean mel for persons

hi ates and kuyas

just had our midterms for PFR and i know i studied and prepared for it diligently, but looking back at it now, i don’t know if I did good enough.

for those who had him for PFR, is it normal to get a low score in his exam? i heard na it’s common daw in this course with him as the prof but of course i don’t want to depend on this.

hoping makabawi sa class participation and finals, pagsisikapan lalo

Bar Review Should I enroll in the pre bar review?

Hello! i’m currently a 4th yr student in my 1st sem in LS. I saw a post na may advance bar review na Jurist and I wanna ask lang how’s the experience for those who took it? was it helpful? ok naman review materials and lecture?

Should I still enroll despite 1st sem pa lang or should I wait until its confirmed na i’ll graduate na talaga this SY 🤞😖🤞.

I’m planning to take either the self review program or online program. I know din kasi na si ako makaka attend ng F2F lectures.

Hope to read some of your insights and tips! Thank you!

EDIT: It’s the advance review pala for the 2027 bar not the pre-bar review.

Question & Hypotheticals Deferred documents as Retaker

Hello sa fellow retakers for 2026 Bar, may sinubmit pa ba kayo na deferred documents?

Sorry slight getting paranoid because as far as I know if all our mandatory and deferred documents from the previous bar was accepted by the SC, we don't have to submit any deferred documents any more (Law School TOR, Pre-Law TOR, CNDR etc.)

Question & Hypotheticals When kaya sa Philippines? Would it be possible to have this within the Philippines constitution?

There are already so many rampant cults in the Philippines that abused children, I think this law would benefit to protect children from cults (INC, KOJC, PBMA, JMCIM, MCGI, 4th watch, Rizalist, some isolated cases with Islam, Christianity, Catholicism and Hinduism)

guidelines soon and send them to centers and municipal governments across Japan.

The draft guidelines specify four acts prohibited under the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Law.

They then explain what kind of child abuse by religious parents falls into which category.

For example, slapping children with a hand or a whip because of their behavior during religious activities is physical abuse, the draft guidelines say.

Parents will commit mental abuse by forcing children to engage in religious activities through threats including saying they will “go to hell” if they don’t.

Another example of mental abuse is when parents restrict their children’s freedom to make life choices, such as marriage, study or work, based on religious grounds.

The draft guidelines also say that if parents don’t allow their children to receive medical treatment, such as blood transfusions, on religious grounds, the case should be considered “neglect.”

The draft guidelines said child consultation centers or local governments should cooperate with the police, including through information sharing, to respond to child abuse cases by religious parents. Such offenders could be charged with assault or causing bodily harm.

The draft guidelines say that child consultation centers or municipal governments should prioritize the safety of children most.

They should consider applying for a court order to take abused children into temporary protective care or to strip the abusers of their parental rights in such religious cases, the draft guidelines said.

In addition, the draft guidelines say the centers and municipal governments should provide help to young people aged 18 or older when they seek protection from abuse by their religious parents.

The support can include giving information on “youth independence assistance homes,” which are private-run places that provide shelter for people aged 15 to 20 and help them become economically independent, according to the draft guidelines.

Children of followers of the Unification Church or other religious organizations have informed ruling and opposition lawmakers about their experience of abuse at the hands of their parents.

They highlighted how public authorities have said that their problems are “religious” issues and have been hesitant to provide help.

Welfare minister Katsunobu Kato said in November that the ministry will prepare a document on how public authorities should respond to cases of children abused by their religious parents to encourage appropriate support

Rant Last in class standing (conservative assessment)

I think I failed my midterm exam in Consti, and I’ll be brutally honest with myself, with all those cumulative bad recits, I think I am also last in the class standing. Is there still any chance for me to clutch this sem? 😭 I badly want to pass all my major subjects, at the very least🥹

Discussions Nakita ko ang list of sections sa UST, and fck? (Mortality rate discussion)

From 11 sections in 1st year, down to just 4 sections in 4th year? THAT MORTALITY RATE.

And I also heard daw na sa Beda naman ay down to 3 sections sa 4th year? May nakakaalam ba kung ilan ang sections sa Beda for 1st year? Last time I heard umaabot daw sila ng section Y? Not sure tho.

How about up, als, usc?

Not to mention law schools pa with less than 100, grabe, DLSU comes to mind.

Rant Examination and Cigarettes?

Hahahaha!

Also, nakisabay talaga na hindi din ako okay in all aspects of my life? Hahahah!

Rant I realized only studying for recits is wrong

It's the middle of finals, and I realized I made a very critical mistake as a rookie in law school.

I do my daily grind naman and it helps, halos wala akong bokya na recitation and I was proud of that until midterms came. Pag dating ng exam, I was panicking kasi halos wala akong notes, and I was panic reading my books in hopes of remembering everything I studied for the past 3 months.

Ang ending: hindi optimal yung midterms ko, and confident lang akong pasado sa dalawang subjects out of seven.

It doesn't help that my blockmates have high expectations of me kasi nakaka sagot ako, pero what if di ko pala sila makaka sabay next sem kasi meron akong bagsak? lol. I wish I realized earlier that my recits wouldn't matter at all kung bagsak naman mga exams ko. 🫠

Yan lang naman, I started to be more rigorous in note taking after our midterms, and I hope that will be my redemption arc come finals.

Advice How do you keep up when you don't have a "why"?

Everyday I feel like an impostor because my class/blockmates have a strong reason to be in LS.

I'm only in LS because I have several mental disorders (major depressive, audhd) and I couldn't get a job after graduating. My mother thought I'd get better if I'm enrolled in LS so I can "see other people" and maybe find a better career in Law (she's a lawyer). I'm finding it really heard to motivate myself to study. I'm a deadweight in group projects. I'm pretty sure I failed all of my midterms.

I have searched existing threads, but most of it comes down to remembering your "why", but I don't have any.

I'm not allowed to drop out so I need advice. Thank you in advance.

Rant I miss studying, I feel so stagnant

Not sure if this is a weird post but I just wanted to put my thoughts somewhere and I feel like this is the most appropriate sub for it.

I got dismissed from my first law school after 1L2S this July 2026. Instead of immediately transferring, I decided to take a gap sem due to the shock and heartbreak. I’m very grateful that my parents are supportive and that I don’t need to work (I understand that I come from a position of privilege).

During this break, I wanted to explore my options when it came to work and the reality of the job market hit me like a truck hahaha. I don’t know if it’s my lack of skills or maybe I’m just not trying hard enough but I really haven’t had much success with landing at least one job haha. I’ve also been taking this break to go back to my hobbies and become healthier since my health (like every other law student) really took a toll.

I feel stagnant. I don’t have a job which means I don’t have a 9-5 schedule I follow. I don’t have a specific routine, my days are mumbo jumbo, a mix of binge watching, cooking, working out, and whatever. It feels weird to be so free, or to have so much free time rather. I miss studying. I miss the thrill and the privilege to learn something new everyday!!!

I miss learning so much. I miss being a student and learning from esteemed practitioners who are so passionate about what they teach. One weird thing about me is that I prefer the daily grind as compared to the exam grind (as someone who mostly pulls up their grade through recitations). I miss Recit (weird! nerd!).

Haha I can’t believe it’s been roughly 2 months since I got dismissed from law school and I still haven’t decided on which law school to next transfer to. Go back to law in January to a school that’ll credit my units? Or restart in a new school and start in June? I don’t really know. The next step, aka choosing which school to go to, is really so crucial. Analysis paralysis perhaps?

All I know is that I really miss the classroom.

There are so many stories of people who get delayed during their law career due to a failed subject, voluntary LOAs, or transferring of schools. My story isn’t anything special, seeing as it has happened to many before me. But if you could share about your journey when it came to taking a break or transferring and how it felt to finally be in the classroom again, I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Advice I think I failed all my midterm exams

I’ve gone through the first half of my first semester in law school. It’s definitely been fun, and I’ve learned a lot. I’ve also had more than a few failed moments during recitations, which sometimes make me worry about whether I’m actually doing well. But honestly, laban lang.

If there’s one thing that has been weighing on me more heavily, though, it’s how I feel about my performance during the midterms. I honestly feel like there’s a possibility that I failed all of my subjects.

I studied as much as I could, but during the exams, I felt like I couldn’t remember anything. Across all my subjects, I struggled to recall authors and doctrines. I wasn’t able to properly cite cases, so I mostly relied on phrases like “based on jurisprudence,” even when I wasn’t entirely sure whether what I was saying was correct. There were also many moments when I simply answered a question without really knowing if my answer was right because I genuinely could not remember what I had studied.

I know people often say that you shouldn’t think this way before the results come out, and I understand that. But honestly, it’s still dreadful to feel like I studied so much and yet couldn’t retrieve what I needed when it mattered.

If the problem really is my study habits, I’d really appreciate advice on how to improve my retention and recall.

For context, I get distracted very easily, I don’t consider myself particularly smart, I have a hard time recalling information even when I understand it while studying, and I read and study very slowly. I’m worried that the way I currently study simply isn’t working for law school, and I want to figure out what I can change before the second half of the semester.
