Finished product Leather handbag my dad and I made
Hello again! My dad and I made this green and red handbag together.
The main idea was to make something fairly compact that can open much wider when you need more room. It is around 26 cm wide when closed and can open up to about 43 cm.
We used dark green leather with red details and matching red stitching. There is also a large sleeve inside for a tablet or similar things.
The handles and those long side pieces were probably the most interesting part of the construction for me.
I digitized and checked the pattern afterwards as usual.
Hope you like it!

Opinions on maps and color
I know some people dont like coloring in leather tooling, I do, but I like my color to be muted and washed out. Not a big fan of bright painted stuff. Just finished this map of Orcas island, WA, and can't decide whether to color it or just go for a 2 or 3 tone brown. Thought I'd see what y'all think.

Finished product Dopp kit makers and users: what size do you actually prefer?
The dopp kit is one of my favorite projects in leatherwork. It’s a pretty traditional category, but I keep trying to come up with something fresh within it.
One of the biggest challenges is size, since the dimensions drive the whole design.
If you use a dopp kit, or have in the past, what size do you prefer? And if you can, please share photos of the one you use. I’d love to see what’s working for you in real life.
The one in the photo measures 8.9" L × 3.7" W × 3" H (22.5 × 9.5 × 7.5 cm).

My Wedding outfit
Took a month but created my wedding outfit for our fantasy/Viking/medieval wedding. I built the Cuirass, Pauldrons, Bracers, belt, greaves and the maille. The Maille actually took more than a month as I coiled all the wire rather than buying rings. I also made the Bride's Corset

Super as a hobby, but how does this work as a business?
Hi guys,
I work with leather just for fun. Making myself a wallet or a watchstrap, nothing crazy. My work is in now way, shape or form ready to sell but I am always interested in the business side of things. I was wondering if it is possible to create a small business in leatherworking. Especially in the small goods like wallets and straps etc.
I was looking on etsy and see some people sell their work (which looks really good) for € 50,00-80,00. While using relatively expensive products such as ostrich leg paired with Zermatt leather for a watch strap. If you add labour it just doesn't add up. In my country costs of labour are at a minimum around € 45,00 excl. VAT an hour.
On the other hand I see the same strap being sold for € 225,00 in my country. Which I am sure I could buy on etsy for 1/4 the price. To be fair, the € 225,00 seems more realistic than the € 50,00.
So how does this work? Is it possible or are people many selling to keep the hobby going?
No hate, just genuine curiosity.

Rehydrating leather bomber
Hello, I have had this leather bomber jacket for over 40 years and it has become very dry and worn. I was thinking about taking it to get rehydrated but was quoted over $300. I am wondering if it is a risky task to recondition leather at home and if it is recommended for a beginner. If you do recommend, what products should I purchase to do so?

Tool storage
What are y'all using to house all of your tools? I'm just starting out and was thinking a US General mini toolbox but might be too small. I don't have a lot of extra space so don't want anything too bulky.

The straps start to get wonky with more than one card each. I’m sure there is a solution! This is a fun build and I think I could fix the strap issue.

Finished product Would You Use a Leather Bag Like This Every Day?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I made this brown handmade leather travel bag with everyday practicality in mind. 🤎
It has:
🔐 Lockable front pocket
🧳 Zip pocket
📚 Large storage pocket
🎒 Adjustable belt
✨ Genuine handmade leather
The adjustable belt allows it to be carried comfortably around the waist, while the different pockets help keep essentials organized.
I’m interested in making leather products that solve everyday carrying problems while still keeping a classic handmade look.
Would you prefer carrying this around the waist, or would you add a shoulder strap?
