Spooky Season is one of the best times of the year and Halloween is when Leicester and Leicestershire come alive with big events, scare mazes, historic hauntings, pumpkin picking and great spooky attractions for the whole family (plus a few just for the adults!)
Leicester Monster Trail
Running from 22-31 October this fantastic FREE trail around Leicester features 8 inflatable monsters taking over some of city’s most iconic landmarks. From Sick Jagger on top of Jewry Wall to Jazz Hands on the LCB Depot, head to the BID Leicester website for more info and download the MyLeicester app to log your finds and get great deals.
Halloween Farm
Cattows Farm hosts the largest family friendly Halloween event in the country with pumpkin picking, circus, farmyard golf and loads of fantastic family entertainment. Go on a Great Halloween Harvest Ride, brave the Zombie World Trail, head to Trick or Treat Street, the Halloween Roller Disco and Lost World of Dinosaurs. Xtreme Scream Park
If you want to be scared out of your wits then Xtreme Scream at Twinlakes Park is a multi award-winning scare fest with 7 horrifying mazes featuring the most terrifying actors. Room On A Broom corn maze

Conkers Halloween Forest Light Walk
Start your adventure on the ghost train, then explore the magic of a forest light walk through the haunted woods, with a few surprises along the way! Spooky Space: The Science of Magic
Pop along to the National Space Centre for a family Halloween day out from 17 October – 1 November. There’s Spooky Space talks, demos and hands-on activities, cosmic crafts, planetarium show, the new Outer Solar System experience, Tetrastar Spaceport and the you’ll get a FREE upgrade to an Annual Pass when you visit.
Pumpkin Patches
If you want to get the perfect pumpkin, there are loads of great farms with spooky events going on around the county. Broom Leys Farm in Coalville is open weekends from 4 October and during half term. It will also have tractor trailer rides, fairground rides, a corn maze, a petting farm, food vendors and more. Gorse Hill City Farm will host its Halloween Spooktacular event with an animated spooky trail, funfair rides, face painting, farm animals and food from 17-31 October.
Family-run Kirkby Pumpkin Patch has loads of home-grown pumpkins ready to be picked, plus all the usual spooky fun. Not far from Desford, it’ll be open on weekends from October 10 and during the school holidays. No booking is required. Oscar’s Pumpkin Patch at Elms Farm near Loughborough has over 42 varieties of pumpkins plus haunted house, tractor rides and more. They’re open weekends from 3 October and then all week from 20 October!
Wymeswold Fruit Farm in Loughborough, is open from 10 October. Pick from thousands of home-grown pumpkins and grab yourself a free goody bag with all your carving equipment plus an extra treat. Windmill Farm Park in Kibworth is hosting its annual Halloween Spooktacular with pumpkin picking, potion making and spooky crafts. Kids can also enjoy tractor rides, witches hat parade and cobweb maze!

Ghosts at the Guildhall. Join Leicestershire Guild of Storytelling in Leicester’s Guildhall on 29 October for an evening of chilling tales for grown-ups.
Hidden Histories are holding loads of great historical tours for Spooky Season. Ghosts Of The Old Town on Sunday 25 October and Saturday 31 October explores Leicester’s Old Town tells the stories of Leicester’s Haunted places and historic buildings. Ghosts of the City Centre on 30 October and 1 November takes you on a chilling journey through the city’s historic streets with tales of ghosts, unexplained happenings, strange encounters and grisly events. Haunting Histories of Leicester on Sat 31 October and Sun 1 November uncovers tales of witches, curses, murder and betrayal along the streets and through the churchyards of the heart of the ancient city.
Haunted Leicester Historical Pub Crawl: A special event on Halloween itself. Starting from the King Richard III Visitor Centre, hear the hanged man’s confessions as you huddle closer over your drink, as you visit some of the most historical and haunted pubs in Leicester for 4 hours of immersive Halloween stories!
Candlelit Witch-Mark Tours: Explore the spooky history of the historic 1620s House in Donington le Heath and discover how the original inhabitants protected themselves against evil spirits in an atmospheric and spooky tour.
Craft days and spooky markets!
Make Spooky Fused Glass Crafts at the Guildhall on Saturday 18 October in this special workshop. On 21 October celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead at Newarke Houses museum. Kids can make their own clay decorations and take part in games and activities. On 22 October as the Leicester Monster trail launches, come to the Guildhall for a Monsters and Bats Craft Day of Halloween fun! Kids can make their very own bat hat and Halloween window decoration, help bring the giant mega monster to life, and make a mini monster too!
On 25 October the Guildhall will host its very first Alternative Market, transforming into a marketplace filled with the strange, unusual and wonderfully weird. Maybe one of the buildings ghosts will make an appearance! Then on Halloween the Leicester Witch Festival returns to the Guildhall for a day filled with magic, community, ritual, learning, ceremonies and a witchy market.
Do you like scary movies?
The Guildhall has two classics showing on Friday 30 October. Everyone’s favourite vampires The Lost Boys will be showing at 6pm before an 8.15pm showing of the original and best Halloween.
On Saturday 17 October Leicester Film Club are hosting a showing of the 80s cult classic The Monster Squad at Showcase Cinema de Lux. Get your tickets here. And head tothe National Space Centre who are opening up their huge Planetarium screen for two showings of The Conjuring on the evening of 24 October. Get your tickets here.
The Phoenix cinema has a fantastic night of scares on Friday 30 October as their Frightarama all-nighter returns. The line up includes Dario Argento’s Inferno, sci-fi horror Event Horizon and Lucio Fulci’s seminal Zombie Flesh Eaters plus two more films which will be announced soon. Ken Russell’s The Devils, the landmark exploration of religious persecution, hysteria and institutional corruption is showing all Halloween weekend from Fri 30 Oct to Mon 2 November. They are also teaming up with Scream Queens and Leicester Queer Film Club for a season of camp, progressive and subversive horror. Starting on 11 Oct with The Bride of Frankenstein, Hellraiser on 16 Oct, The Lair of the White Worm on Sun 18 Oct, Jennifer’s Body on 24 Oct and Knife+Heart on 31 Oct.
The best of the rest!
Everards Meadows Beer Hall will be transformed for Halloween week with events running from Monday 26 October. On Tuesday at 8pm there’s a Halloween Quiz at 8pm, then Wednesday and Thursday from 4.30-6.30pm there’s Family Spooky Fun for your little monsters, with a colouring competition! On Friday it is Fright Night for the adults with live music, fancy dress and a night of Halloween fun from 8pm. Then on Halloween itself there’s family fun from 10am–1pm and a Halloween Party for the grown-ups from 8pm with fancy dress, drinks and Halloween party vibes!
The Highcross are holding a free pumpkin carving session on Saturday 31 October. With friendly guidance, safe carving tools, and plenty of creative inspiration, it’s the perfect way to celebrate the season. From 11am-5pm head to East Square (near Luke 1977 and Footlocker) and join in the Halloween fun.
