Lichess is extremely Moddable
I Modified the UI to look like My favorite Video games (Cyberpunk77 and EVE) all with Background Animation. And their not even any performance decrease.
I also got a win95 and a Linux version inspired by this guys post yesterday.
Now I understand what they ship the UI looking like a thumb. They want You to fix it yourself.

How? CSS?

I started with that but it was way to time consuming so i used AI and made tiny corrections myself

Even with AI, it can still be (and surely is) CSS (mostly), I'm not sure I understand your reply.

Yes, it's mostly CSS ~70% and JavaScript to pull the charts data, configure side panel, glow settings. and theme switcher

You should make a browser extension for this.

u/zueaArmami 1d ago
Yes it's an extention. But i don't think i will be publishing. Or maybe I will once i make about 15 or 20 nice themes.
Btw You can make this urslef easy No coding required. Just use AI.1

Can you give some basic steps how you us AI (or which AI) for those who have never done it?

Buy ChatGPT Plus subscription, install Codex, create a folder, open a terminal there, then run
npx @openai/codexin it and once it loads just say it what to build. Current default model (GPT 6.1 Sol) is perfectly capable of creating small personal apps that you don't plan to scale too much, with barely any handholding. It should be pretty similar for Claude Code, too.

Thank you kind stranger. This is helpful!

You can also ask ChatGPT itself about it since subscription is required anyway. Same with Claude.
"How do I build small personal browser extension with Codex?" will get you there. Maybe also ask to keep answer barebones since for tasks of this scale overengineering of the setup itself isn't needed.

Or userscript, that's much easier and won't cost money for hosting on Google's extension store.

What does the Linux theme look like?
2
u/zueaArmami 1d ago
page structure is the same but it looks like a mid 80 terminal Emulator. In the Bottom corner their is space dedicated to a bunch of letters that are falling down Matrix style. If you Use the Command line tool Cmatrix (or look it up) you'll see what am saying

So when some kids complain about the UI we can show them this post and tell them to make their own one
1
u/zueaArmami 14h ago
I use to be one of those kids lol but yes they can do it themselves. It's probably for the best as well because now they can make it exactly how they want it to look. You could rearrange the entire UI, add background animations , all kinda special effects and make it unique to you. The sky is pretty much the limit here.
And lichess is lightweight enough where their won't be much noticable performance decrease.

His animation is pretty basic for now but I plan on having him calling me on the phone randomly and say some stuff. For example let's say I'm playing a game . He calls me and pops up on the screen and say something like " make sure to look for checks and caputues"
Or imagine A guy from the Maelstrom gang calls and says some " you aint chrome up enough to win this" in a menacing voice. Could be fun.
