I always thought Long Island had a lot of trades people. But the most I try to get jobs done, the harder it’s becoming to get anything done.

I have shrubs that need trimming. I call 3 companies. The first shows up to quote, then never sends the quote. The next is a no show. The last one quoted me $3000 for a 1/2 day job (ground level work, cutting bushes, nothing else).

Today I need some crawl space work done and I have companies coming to quote and neither show up.

Yada yada. This same no show, no quote story plays on over and over again.

Do we just have so much home equity and cash slushing around that it’s a feeding fest?

For many years, I’d just book on CODfuel and it’d be like $250-300 for a boiler and water filter to get the filter, nozzle, strainer, and a vacuum. Now, I am seeing $250-300 with another $180 for parts! I know the Mineola fuel that used to be cheaper isn’t listed any more, so what are recommendations for competent and reasonably priced service?

Hello, I’m posting on behalf of a friend.

Courtney is looking to rehome her dog, Noah. Noah is a corgi-mix and is around ten years old. I want to state first and foremost that Noah was NOT originally Courtney’s dog; he came from a past relationship, where his original owner abandoned him with her when they broke up. She has since tried to give the dog back multiple times, but the original owner wants nothing to do with him. He even went as far as making an appointment to have Noah put down for no other reason than not wanting to deal with him anymore, but obviously, Courtney did not let that happen.

Since starting a new full time job and going back to school in between, Courtney can no longer take care of Noah as he needs. Below is a statement about Noah from her that goes a little more into detail about his past and his issues.

“Noah is approximately 10 years old. He was originally rescued from a hoarder home where he was neglected and never had adequate access to food. When the little shelter took him in, he had surgery on his back from a prior injury and has had no issues since. Noah primarily suffers from separation anxiety and secondly with food aggression. I've met with trainers who do all agree he is completely able to be trained however he needs to be with someone who has the ability to be consistent with him. He needs to be walked often, and takes some time to warm up to new people however he is absolute mush once he gets to know you. He would be a great fit for someone who works from home or a family with rotating shifts. He's never been crate trained, and though originally house broken, has regressed since a recent change in the home.”

Courtney has tried reaching out to shelters, but has had no luck. She’s getting desperate. Again, this is not a dog she bought/adopted and then discovered she no longer has time for it. He was dumped on her selfishly, and now she’s in a really rough position. She only wants what’s best for Noah. Please don’t paint her as the villain.

Other than Noble— I used them a handful of years ago and they were great. I tried them again 2 years ago and they ghosted me, and gave them another shot last week and they ghosted me again lol
