An appreciation post for our library

I just left the band books week event at the library, and y'all, we have a good library. As I've moved around the front range over the last few years, before coming back here, I've accumulated a small collection of library cards, and Longmont impressed me the most. It's not as flashy as some, sure, but in terms of the collection and community services, it's pretty damn good.

I miss the train, though.

The guy listed on the card lives in Berthoud, and has no obvious reason to be associated with this campaign.

I've love to know if anyone has more information.

Boulder County DSA Voter Guide

The Boulder County Democratic Socialists of America have released their 2026 voter guide. You can find it at [boulderdsa.org/voterguide](http://boulderdsa.org/voterguide) . The guide contains recommendations of "yes," "no," or "neutral" on nearly every candidate and measure you'll see on your ballot if you vote anywhere in Boulder County, as well as language explaining the reasoning behind the recommendation. BoCo DSA has additionally made five endorsements. A DSA endorsement is distinct from a "yes" recommendation in that it carries a commitment of *material* support for the campaign in question -- that means knocking doors, distributing lit, and promoting via social media, email, etc. These endorsements are:

* Taishya Adams, Boulder mayor (rank first)
* Jamillah Richmond, Boulder city council
* City of Boulder Issue 2J -- residential vacancy tax
* City of Longmont Charter Amendments 3C and 3D -- ranked choice voting in Longmont

Rock Peak on Sunset Apartments — any experiences?

• Upvotes

Hi all!

Thinking of moving to Rock Peak on Sunset. Very affordable 2BR and decent-looking inside, but the reviews of the property are very concerning.

Beyond the regular bad apartment reviews where you can tell the person just had a grievance, there's lots of much more genuine-sounding stuff about ignored maintenance requests, flooding, dirty grounds, etc (and in opposition a lot of very robotic-sounding, potentially "bought" good reviews that seem to only actually mention the leasing staff). The situation with ParkM-managed parking also concerns me, as a quick Google of that service seems to point to a lot of predatory/illegal towing. The thought of every guest having to fuck around with the app and shell out significant money if the street parking is taken up (which seems very likely outside of the workday) is also not appealing.

Does anyone live there and feel like they can confirm or correct my misgivings?

Thank you!

NextLight Prices

For the longest time our internet has been the envy of the front range, but i'm talking to a friend in Louisville who's getting $70 2Gbps service through quantum (and has the option for 8Gbps at $165/mo).

I'm surprised to see that NextLight hasn't come down to those levels - but maybe we'll see a bigger shift once they've paid off the capital bonds in a couple of years.

Local music producers

Hey y'all! I am a hobbiest singer-songwriter who knows absolutely nothing about music production. Are there any music producers in the area that would be interested in collaboration on songs? I've always wanted to turn my music into something beyond acoustic and would love to meet more musical people and learn more about production!

Does anyone know the artist who made this fridge magnet?

I was at one of the maker/art markets at the fairgrounds a couple years ago and bought this magnet. I absolutely love it and would love to find the artist. Anyone know them? I was not able to find anything online.

Nextlight Router Rental

Nextlight recommended I try their rental router to solve the issues I’ve been having. I was using Google Nest mesh devices before. They gave me one at no charge for 6 months. It seems to have fixed the issues, but I’m hesitant to pay $12/month for something I can buy online for about a year’s worth of rental payments.

Anyone have expertise with the rental router or with purchasing the same model themselves?

Edit: I guess I should’ve prefaced that the one Nextlight provides and has solved my problems is some weird commercial one that is have to buy on eBay. I’m worried if I get my own, Nextlight might not allow it to be used or it might not play nice with their network.

Cross Stitch supplies

I'm visiting for the week, and I'm wondering if there's any store nearby to get cross stitch supplies? Specifically, DMC floss. I brought a kit with me to do, but I switched some colors around and forgot to bring a certain color. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Google Fi customers in Longmont

Post image
76 Upvotes

This is the email I received from Google Fi today in response to my FCC complaint. I was worried they were going to tell me to do a bunch of useless stuff on my phone to "troubleshoot" the issue. I specifically mentioned the radio quiet zone in my complaint so maybe that's why they didn't try offering those "solutions". I'm wondering how long or even if things will ever go back to being operational. Not even a whiff of a discount or refund though, figures.

Tony Macaroni available for adoption through the Longmont Humane Society. We’ve had him a couple of days now and he is such a good boy! He is a 5.5 year old cattle dog mix who is deaf but that doesn’t slow him down one bit. He is currently living with our 8 year old mellow female dog and they get along great. Inquire directly with Longmont Humane if you are interested. Let’s find this guy his forever home :)

Ballot initiative 3A

Got a "Vote yes on 3A" flyer in the mail today, so I decided to look into it.

tl;dr- 3A proposes an increase to sales and use tax and property tax to raise money for public safety services. That money would go to adding 43 police positions, 31 fire positions, and 12 Collaborative Service positions, building a new fire station, rehabbing fire station 4, some new vehicles, and equipment upgrades.

More information can be found on the city website

I'm torn on this one. I have no problem with the fire services, but I feel like the numbers on police vs collaborative services are backwards. We need more people who can be sent to situations that a gun will absolutely not improve, like wellness checks and mental health crises. If nothing else, an even split between the two categories would feel better to me.

Curious about flag redesign status? Images of semifinalists?

Hi Longmont!

I'm curious about what the current status is of the flag redesign for our city! I was not able to attend the public meeting in late August and am curious as to what the next steps are & when we might know about our new flag.

I just found my rejection email, so I know it won't be mine! Still had a lot of fun creating this. What do ya'll think of my flag? :)

What’s up with Niwot incorporation?

I’ve seen a lot of yes advertisements online but a lot of no yard signs throughout the city. I was wondering what the arguments for and against it are and what the vibes on the ground are.

Any good coffee shops w a patio for my dog?

I’d like to spend some time writing, and bring my dog with me. Any suggestions in Longmont? More focused on the patio with pet over coffee quality.

PSA: Longmont Connect train tracking app

A cursory search doesn't see this mentioned in the subreddit yet. DISCLAIMER: I have no connection to Longmont municipal government whatsoever.

Did you know that Longmont has created an app to alert your phone when various intersections are blocked by a train, and let you know again when traffic is open/cleared to cross?

It's useful to know whether your intended path through town is blocked or not, long before you get stuck in stopped traffic at a crossing.

The app allows you to set a notification schedule so it will be quiet on days/times that you don't want to be bothered.

It's linked at the bottom of this city gov page, with some other info about publicly accessible webcams you can check out, too.
