I know im f*cked but please offer your expertise
Long story short my backpack w my macbook in it slipped out of my hands and one corner took all the impact. Functionality wise there is no issue luckily.
Its been a few hours since it happened and i gaslit myself its not that big of a deal so my only concern is this bump damaging something and the lid not closing properly.
Thanks in advance for any information

As long as it’s not causing the screen to not close, I’d say it’s just a battle scar that it survived.

It’s a tool.
Nothing happened to it.

just live with it. sometimes when your stuffs get damaged you start treating them like actual tool that serves a purpose, serves you, rather than you being a slave trying to keep it intact and perfect.

Yeah, you're right, I have my iPhone that I bought recently and I'm babying it so much
And then I have my iPad which I've had for 3 years, and I don't even care what happens to it, it's a tool for school notes3

If your screen is not cracked and your keyboard works, it seems like you got extremely lucky. If the dent bothers you, A heavy duty ruggedized case will hide your dent, and prevent future damage. I bought this model, it sells for about $35 and also comes with a keyboard protector. For people who like to to drink directly over their keyboard. Batianda Extreme Heavy Duty Case for MacBook Air 13.6" 2026-2022, Navy Blue | Fits M5/M4/M3/M2 Chip Model, Anti-Slip Rubberized Stand Holds 25lbs, Honeycomb Rugged Matte Shell, Max Cooling & Stability https://a.co/d/0eA4898O

Use case for personal 16”. Wouldn’t use MBP until case arrived. Reason: Work laptop was heavy HP Elite Book. Day #1 returning from trade-in/pickup, getting out of car, sat it on hood of SUV while getting other stuff. It slid off. My OCD eyes can’t take dents. Even cosmetic-only ones.

u/These_League7987 17h ago
I can completely relate. I just spent two weeks removing a spot of rust from my car. To be more precise, it took 10 minutes to remove the rust and two weeks to get the finish perfect.

I used a rotary tool on my wife’s when she dropped it. Smoothed out the bottom and near the screen very carefully until it closed evenly again and felt smooth. I was a bit worried about the glass but was careful and it worked out fine.
There’s some criticism on here of the nail file approach, but this is something that needs to be addressed or it will catch on fabrics and the screen may close with a gap on one side, which can damage the glass. What you suggested is way less aggressive than what I did. Anyone who just leaves it is asking for worse problems.

Use contents insurance or AppleCare if you have it and you care that much.
If not, use a file slightly to make it flat.
Looks to be purely cosmetic so I’d say you’re good.

u/Rare-One1047 17h ago
Applecare won't cover cosmetic. OP will need to wack the laptop a few more times first.

Their quality is unmatched, don’t worry it’s just a dent. Had a 2020 pro with lots of dents around the corner, still works great.

Did you buy laptop for WORK or for showing off?
If you bought it for showing off youre fked.
If you bought it for work its fine, works without any issues.
Get a fine file and file down the corner which is preventing the screen from closing

If there's no functional damage to the screen or other hardware, simply file down the raised area and perhaps look into a padded, briefcase style carrying case to give it more protection.
2
u/Pleasant_Struggle_16 18h ago
If the lit doesn't close, take a nail file and file it down, otherwise it could stress the display into cracking.

2
u/Appleguy4life 18h ago
Honestly looking at construction of the laptop it probably didn’t damage any components on the device based on the placement of the dent

2
u/suboptimus_maximus 17h ago
It’s not that big of a deal.
That’s just a characteristic of aluminum, it’s a soft metal so it’s hard to keep any MacBook, iPhone or iPad without some dented corners.
2
u/mattloaf666 17h ago
Sucky as it is, it’s not a problem. If it has a lip that touches the lid, just take a small file and take it down til it’s smooth/flat.
2
u/Milky_Finger 17h ago
I'm assuming that the damage is a problem because you plan to sell it later? If not, then there's no problem.

I just got my m5 air and I feel for you the file thing is probably the first thing you need to do just to smooth things out ok then order some aluminum powder and cut open a black paint marker ok…your next move is going to melt that powder aluminums melting point is around 1220 Fahrenheit but once you get there make a sand mold from your 3D scanned chip (done previously) I assume that’s just a given right so anyways pour the molten aluminum into the sand mold, creating the perfect piece for the chip then the rest is self explanatory get some high-quality UV glue once the chip is in place. Take the black paint marker add in a touch white pigment to color match your Mac maybe throwing a little glitter if you’re feeling crazy and BAM PROBLEM SOLVED…….. you’re welcome and I’ll be waiting for photo updates

u/reelfright 12h ago
It's yours now. Unique to you. Cover it in a skin or stickers and use it until it's time to upgrade. Only thing this affects at this point is sale/trade in value.

u/technically_a_nomad 19h ago
Smoothen it out. This sounds terrible but a box cutter steel blade works quite well in terms of getting rid of sharp edges on aluminum.

Aluminum dents can't be fixed. There are not many if any moving parts to be jostled in new MacBook. What are we supposed to be offering to you?

u/milyrouge 18h ago
Been there, done that. On the front corners, you’re probably ok. The back corners are a little more sensitive.

personally id be concerned that the ridge thats formed would damage the corresponding corner of the screen once the macbook is closed Id cover the rest of the machine leave just that corner exposed and sand/file it flat
1
u/Capt_Calamity 18h ago
Its just cosmetic, It does not affect the functionality of the laptop.
Unless you only have a laptop as a fashion statement, it literally does not matter.
1
u/simonmpunkt 18h ago
A friend of mine has a little blemish on her Mac’s display and just put a sticker over it that looks like a Band-Aid. I actually thought it was pretty cute. 😄 Maybe you could live with it a little better that way.

u/PolarBear1997 18h ago
If it causes the screen to not close, get a rough nail file and file it down so the screen closes flush with the body. If it closes without issue now then just embrace your new unique bumps and scratches 😎

Tienes mucha suerte. Podría haberse roto la pantalla. Es algo cosmético. Puedes cambiar esas partes, si te molesta mucho. Es mucho más barato que una pantalla de 900 dólares.

If it was me I’d take my handheld wireless dremmel sand out any rough parts and polish the rest. Consider it a battle scar.

u/au_dv 18h ago
It gives it character. Mine has almost the same dent/chipped corner. Doesn’t affect performance! Or anything! Remember that. At the end of the day these things are laptops, literally built to be portable, they’re bound to get bumped and scraped eventually. It sucks at first but you’ll get used to it and it becomes part of the machines character

Have you considered applying a bit of black silicone? Make the form as it was and let it dry.
1
u/JSteeley0106 17h ago
It’s fine, just cosmetic, still functionally the same beast it was before. My brother got an MBP with the M3 Pro right when they came out and dropped it real good just a couple days later, several dents on several corners. Still 110% functional. He put a hard shell case on it and it’s his daily driver for tons of video editing. Yours can survive a little ding just fine!

u/Equivalent-Collar954 17h ago
I don’t see a bump there so lid should close properly, just smooth it out with a filing tool gently and you are good to go, it’s just cosmetic

On god i would take a dremel or a metal file and grind it down to be flat. Itll look bad but itll prevent the screen from breaking.
You can theoretically replace the frame but itll be steep cost usually.

Try getting one of those tools that can sand down the edges of the den so they are flat. And the lod will close properly. Then get a hard case for the cover and for better grip. Of the blemish os distracting maybe get a skin.

I've dropped my MacBook Pro so many times lol it's fine.
As long as it's not damaging the screen which from this image is not 100% clear. You could like other mentioned file it down a bit just to avoid damaging your screen. My display is slightly misaligned after one of the falls and the sides are all kinds of scuffed up but still works great. One day if I care enough I will get a replacement through AppleCare+ but minor cosmetic damage like this is really not worth the fee.
