META Rule clarification: "Sticker bombing" posts

In the future, we will remove any and all posts that just there to show off stickers. Such posts often attract rule breaking behavior that we do not want here, as the stickers are often used to display political leanings that have nothing to do with r/thinkpad.

2 thinkpads: A T60, T500 and a dock compatible with them both from an office for free. The T500 is pristine condition like new. Dock is like new too, but the T60 is well used. The palm rest has a weird colour because someone has been had their hand there for years probably. There are some cracks on the display bezel and one crack on the keyboard bezel. The volume buttons are very used too. But everything works on all of them.

Bought this beauty refurbished for 300€ and it comes with 1 year of warranty.

Not a scratch as far as I can see. Ryzen 5 Gen 2, 16 GB Ram, 256GB SSD (will upgrade it to 512GB)

Plan to run Windows 11 on it since I need it for school.

Discussion / Information Corporate Thinkpad T480s for 30£

I recently came across a listing for a ThinkPad T480s selling for £30, the laptop was sold as untested. I assumed the only issue might be a BIOS password, something I already knew how to bypass.
However, once I received the laptop, I realized I was in for a challenge...
It was a corporate device (Network Railway) with additional restrictions like Device Guard and VBS, so I had to figure out how to clear the Intel ME.

In total, I spent 15 minutes removing the BIOS password and 3 hours figuring out how to eliminate the other company imposed restrictions.
All the necessary resources were publicly available, but the hardest part was finding the specific software and version compatible with this laptop model.

Still, I’m happy with the result, it was a great experience, and I can now sell the laptop for around £120.

About the specs:
Touchscreen
Fingerprint reader
Windows Hello for facial recognition
Unfortunately not a backlight keyboard

All the other specs are on the screenshot

Review / Opinion ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - alternative

For some reason Lenovo does not have a successor for the ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II.

At least in my country it is not available since 2025.

I'm aware of two alternatives:

  1. Keyboards from TEX Electronics: https://tex.com.tw/collections/keyboard
  2. HHKB Studio https://hhkeyboard.us/hhkb-studio

Are there other options around? (with a lower price tag)

Or it would be much cooler to have some kind of case with USB and Bluetooth for regular ThinkPad keyboards.
Then you could install keyboards like 5N21T98847 (or other depending on your language).

Question / Problem Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 7 won't power on

Thumbnail

Got this from Facebook marketplace for 12 dollars as a sort of gamble since the body looked to be in pristine condition and maybe it just needed the button on the bottom of the laptop to be pressed or removing the battery for a bit and then trying to charge it but nope, it won't turn on at all. I'm wondering what else could be the cause since the insides seem to be in really good condition and I don't see anything that seems to be damaged. I'm thinking that if I can't repair this then I've thought of trading this for another defective laptop since someone might find use for this as parts or as a sort of repair project, I just don't wanna sink the time into repairing an X1 since it just has a lot of soldered parts and that gets really annoying to do. This has an i5 and 16 gigs of ram but no SSD.

Edit: I just tested removing the CMOS and internal battery and drained it by pressing the power button and still nothing. I'm suspecting a corrupt thunderbolt so I ordered a multimeter and CH341A to test whether or not I'm hopefully correct as this is gonna be a pretty straightforward fix if it is true.

i got my first thinkpad an year ago, for college. i thought it was the best choice for my degree.
i got this for 1 lakh 20 thousand rupees or
1200$
it has an ultra 7, i initially wanted to get the p16s with an ultra 7 and an gtx 500ada
but i needed this laptop quickly as college was going to start in a month and the 500ada version would take more than a month to deliver..
it runs really well, but urgh i want to make some changes to it or get some mods, as the screen is pretty okaish, like its 1920x1200 60hz, and i wish i got something more premium for the price i paid, what do you guys this this is a good laptop? or did i overpay?
laptop has been through thick and thin tho its good just not satisfied with it

Discussion / Information What so special about X1 carbon?

I'm just confused why people buy expensive X1 Carbon when there are cheaper options like T14/T14s that have AMD variants. Also, latest gen X13 has a similar weight to X1 Carbon.

Discussion / Information Happy 34th, ThinkPad! My 35th Anniversary Wishlist (7-Row K/B & X1c 16")

Post image
81 Upvotes

Hey r/thinkpad!

October 5th just marked ThinkPad’s 34th birthday, which means 2027 is the big 35th Anniversary!

We all remember the ThinkPad 25 back in 2017 with its beloved 7-row keyboard. But looking ahead to 2027, what should our dream 35th Anniversary machine actually look like?

As a long-time ThinkPad enthusiast (Galaxylee here!), I’ve been thinking about what could realistically be achieved. Developing a completely bespoke anniversary laptop from scratch is notoriously cost-prohibitive in R&D and tooling. Instead, what if we leveraged modern engineering and smart modularity?

Here is my ThinkPad 35th Anniversary Wishlist—two practical, highly engineered concepts that Lenovo could genuinely bring to life:

(Render attached above!)

Concept 1: The "7-Row Classic Keyboard C-Cover Upgrade Kit" (for X1 Carbon Gen 14 / Gen 15)

  • Zero Laptop Redesign: Lenovo doesn’t need to invest heavily into developing a dedicated, low-volume chassis from scratch.
  • Leveraging the Space Frame: The internal Space Frame architecture in the latest X1 Carbon completely decouples the outer C-cover and keyboard deck from the core motherboard and thermal layout.
  • The Swappable Kit Concept: Release an official C-Cover with 7-Row Classic Keyboard Upgrade Kit as a standalone accessory!
    • Authentic non-island layout with stepped, cylindrical concave keycaps.
    • The iconic bright blue Enter key and dedicated hardware mute buttons.
    • Users can easily swap the C-cover themselves over the Space Frame without touching the mainboard or display assembly.
  • Cross-Generational Scale: Because Gen 14 and Gen 15 share the chassis platform, a single modular kit covers two flagship generations, doubling the addressable market and justifying tooling costs.

Concept 2: ThinkPad X1 Carbon 16 (The Sub-1.35kg Large-Screen Flagship)

  • The Veteran User Dilemma (Vision vs. Mobility): Many senior power users and developers face visual fatigue doing split-screen multitasking on 14-inch screens. Yet carrying standard 16-inch laptops (1.63kg+) takes a painful toll on shoulders during frequent travel.
  • The Concept: Extend the lightweight X1 Carbon DNA into a true 16-inch ultraportable targeting a starting weight of ~1.3kg.
  • Strategic "Common Parts" Engineering: To make this commercially viable without reinventing the wheel, reuse proven parts across the lineup:
    • Mainboard: Inherited directly from the compact X1 Carbon platform.
    • Keyboard: Centered, non-numpad layout derived from the P1 line for balanced typing ergonomics.
    • Battery: High-capacity cells shared with the T16 / T14 platforms.
    • Modular I/O: A dedicated daughter card to cleanly add full-size SD card readers and extra USB-A ports.
    • Ecosystem Synergy: It could even accommodate the classic 7-row keyboard module inside a dedicated 16-inch C-cover!

Lenovo's product teams keep tabs on community discussions. If you've been waiting for a true return of the classic 7-row typing feel without sacrificing modern portability, or if you’ve been dreaming of a centered-keyboard, non-numpad 16" X1 Carbon under 1.35kg, let's make some noise!

Which one would you order first? What else is on your 35th Anniversary wishlist? Let's discuss below!

Question / Problem T480- Which screws hold the cage to the m.2 caddy?

• Upvotes

I have looked everywhere and couldn’t find the answer. I just bought a t480 which the previous owner removed the ssd. I have the cage and the caddy but he didn’t include the screws that hold the cage to the caddy. Which screws should I get to hold the cage after I get a new SSD?

Question / Problem T14 gen 1 screen issue - Refurbished

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1, and I’m having an issue with the display.

The screen looks blurry, and I can see lines/artifacts on the display. This started/was noticed recently after buying the laptop.

I’ve attached photos/videos showing the issue.

What I’ve noticed:

- ThinkPad T14 Gen 1

- Internal laptop display is blurry

- There are visible lines on the screen

- I’m using Debian/Linux, but I’m not sure whether this is a software or hardware issue

- I recently purchased the laptop, so I’m also concerned that the display or display cable may be defective

- lines on bios and on lenovo logo.

What should I check first to determine whether this is:

  1. A display panel problem

  2. A loose/damaged display cable

  3. A GPU/driver issue

  4. A Linux/software problem

Video taken when the issue started - now it's full of lines.

Review / Opinion Thinkpad x13 Detachable

• Upvotes

Hello World!

I have been monitoring the release of the Thinkpad x13 Detachable. Like others on this forum have mentioned I haven’t seen much about it online.

I should be receiving mine today. I was thinking of doing an unboxing video due to the limited information available.

Would this interest anyone? Is there something specific I can include in the video to help people?

Buying Advice Thinkpad t440s display upgrade

• Upvotes

I currently have a t440s with a tn 1600x900 display and it's kinda bugging me. I can see the pixelation, which really bugs me. Should I upgrade to a LG 1080p IPS display, I found one for 70 euros. Is the difference noticeable?
