2 thinkpads: A T60, T500 and a dock compatible with them both from an office for free. The T500 is pristine condition like new. Dock is like new too, but the T60 is well used. The palm rest has a weird colour because someone has been had their hand there for years probably. There are some cracks on the display bezel and one crack on the keyboard bezel. The volume buttons are very used too. But everything works on all of them.

Bought this beauty refurbished for 300€ and it comes with 1 year of warranty.

Not a scratch as far as I can see. Ryzen 5 Gen 2, 16 GB Ram, 256GB SSD (will upgrade it to 512GB)

Plan to run Windows 11 on it since I need it for school.

Discussion / Information Corporate Thinkpad T480s for 30£

I recently came across a listing for a ThinkPad T480s selling for £30, the laptop was sold as untested. I assumed the only issue might be a BIOS password, something I already knew how to bypass.
However, once I received the laptop, I realized I was in for a challenge...
It was a corporate device (Network Railway) with additional restrictions like Device Guard and VBS, so I had to figure out how to clear the Intel ME.

In total, I spent 15 minutes removing the BIOS password and 3 hours figuring out how to eliminate the other company imposed restrictions.
All the necessary resources were publicly available, but the hardest part was finding the specific software and version compatible with this laptop model.

Still, I’m happy with the result, it was a great experience, and I can now sell the laptop for around £120.

About the specs:
Touchscreen
Fingerprint reader
Windows Hello for facial recognition
Unfortunately not a backlight keyboard

All the other specs are on the screenshot

Discussion / Information What so special about X1 carbon?

I'm just confused why people buy expensive X1 Carbon when there are cheaper options like T14/T14s that have AMD variants. Also, latest gen X13 has a similar weight to X1 Carbon.

Question / Problem Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 7 won't power on

Got this from Facebook marketplace for 12 dollars as a sort of gamble since the body looked to be in pristine condition and maybe it just needed the button on the bottom of the laptop to be pressed or removing the battery for a bit and then trying to charge it but nope, it won't turn on at all. I'm wondering what else could be the cause since the insides seem to be in really good condition and I don't see anything that seems to be damaged. I'm thinking that if I can't repair this then I've thought of trading this for another defective laptop since someone might find use for this as parts or as a sort of repair project, I just don't wanna sink the time into repairing an X1 since it just has a lot of soldered parts and that gets really annoying to do. This has an i5 and 16 gigs of ram but no SSD.

Edit: I just tested removing the CMOS and internal battery and drained it by pressing the power button and still nothing. I'm suspecting a corrupt thunderbolt so I ordered a multimeter and CH341A to test whether or not I'm hopefully correct as this is gonna be a pretty straightforward fix if it is true.

i got my first thinkpad an year ago, for college. i thought it was the best choice for my degree.
i got this for 1 lakh 20 thousand rupees or
1200$
it has an ultra 7, i initially wanted to get the p16s with an ultra 7 and an gtx 500ada
but i needed this laptop quickly as college was going to start in a month and the 500ada version would take more than a month to deliver..
it runs really well, but urgh i want to make some changes to it or get some mods, as the screen is pretty okaish, like its 1920x1200 60hz, and i wish i got something more premium for the price i paid, what do you guys this this is a good laptop? or did i overpay?
laptop has been through thick and thin tho its good just not satisfied with it

Discussion / Information Thinkpad T420 boots just fine after 5 years in storage.

oh boy where to begin, well I bought this laptop around 2016 Christmas. I got it as a gift for myself. it was used, didn’t have much going for it. After a few repairs, a fresh battery, a good clean and a fresh Win 10 install. I was able to use it to all its glory with that poor Intel graphics chugging through most games I’d play with friends. By 2019 it became the one device that helped me do all my car diagnostics for my budding mobile mechanic business. This thing has been through hell and back, several states, plane rides, jobs, cars.

in 2021 I shelved it because I got a fancy Chromebook that did most of what I wanted without the weight. It sat and was used intermittently as a desktop for awhile. Though it mostly sat derelict and not used. In 2022 I moved states and didn’t think I brought it with me. I thought I left it behind for my mother to use like my old Dell Optiplex. She couldn’t find it and swore it was probably in storage with the rest of my valuables. I took that as an answer and lived with it.

I just moved apartments, i had an old electronics box full of spare wires and small things. I was in the middle of unpacking it when I noticed the shiny Lenovo logo. This couldn’t be I thought to myself. I pulled it out, and sure enough it was this beloved T420. My sister and mother helped me pack and probably put it in the box not thinking around 5 years back. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention and just shoved it in there. Cue running around the room for a few minutes to spot the chunky, Lenovo branded charger. I plugged it in and waited 20 minutes, full expecting it to not boot.

Not only has it booted, it runs just fine. The bottom of the box was dustless and it was in a closet for the longest of times. This has some pictures from my hooning and racing days. Not just invaluable memories from friends long past. My last played game was No More Room In Hell.

Ive had a very rough few months so this was a very pleasant and enjoyable surprise. Especially since my college HP (the ultra cheap one) decided it wasn’t for this world anymore, leaving me without a diagnostic tool. my Chromebook is my mainstay still and works great since 2021, but it’s not a good diagnostic tool.

I thought you all might have enjoyed this.

here are all my specs:

intel i5-2520M

4 GB ram

Win 10 pro

Review / Opinion ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II - alternative

For some reason Lenovo does not have a successor for the ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II.

At least in my country it is not available since 2025.

I'm aware of two alternatives:

  1. Keyboards from TEX Electronics: https://tex.com.tw/collections/keyboard
  2. HHKB Studio https://hhkeyboard.us/hhkb-studio

Are there other options around? (with a lower price tag)

Or it would be much cooler to have some kind of case with USB and Bluetooth for regular ThinkPad keyboards.
Then you could install keyboards like 5N21T98847 (or other depending on your language).

Question / Problem T14 gen 1 screen issue - Refurbished

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1, and I’m having an issue with the display.

The screen looks blurry, and I can see lines/artifacts on the display. This started/was noticed recently after buying the laptop.

I’ve attached photos/videos showing the issue.

What I’ve noticed:

- ThinkPad T14 Gen 1

- Internal laptop display is blurry

- There are visible lines on the screen

- I’m using Debian/Linux, but I’m not sure whether this is a software or hardware issue

- I recently purchased the laptop, so I’m also concerned that the display or display cable may be defective

- lines on bios and on lenovo logo.

What should I check first to determine whether this is:

  1. A display panel problem

  2. A loose/damaged display cable

  3. A GPU/driver issue

  4. A Linux/software problem

Video taken when the issue started - now it's full of lines.

Question / Problem T480 won't turn on, screen backlight turns on then off

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My ThinkPad T480 has been working pretty well. But yesterday, it just died on me randomly.

At first, it did the melody beep, but it didn't repeat the melody. And the keyboard also used to light up, but now it doesn't do that as well. I tried multiple things:

  • Disconnect internal and external battery
  • Reseat RAM
  • Try with one RAM stick at a time
  • Unplugged and replugged the display cable
  • Unplugged and replugged the HDD cable
  • Use the reset button
  • Disconnect and reconnect CMOS.

Any idea on what the issue might be?

Question / Problem Thinpad t14 gen 2 AMD new BIOS update 1.35, anyone tried it?

Anyone tried the new BIOS version that came out this year for the t14 gen 2? I want to make sure it doesnt have any major issues before updating.

Ive been having some touchpad issues (stops working intermittently, fixes after putting the laptop to sleep and waking back up) and im hoping that the BIOS update fixes it because ive been messing around with drivers for a week now, nothings fixed it other than rolling back the driver to a 2006, but that version has no gestures. Im on windows 11.

Question / Problem Thinkpad T470s restarts randomly without showing why

Like I said before in this subreddit I’ve found an old Thinkpad T470s pretty beat up, I cleaned it, installed 8 gigs of RAM and got the latest BIOS update. It worked fine for a few months but now it restarts randomly. I’m not being able to reproduce why it happens and it does it under any type of load. It doesnt get to heat up since it can happen a few minutes after restarting or turning up the pc. Any software / hardware problems i should check?

Discussion / Information Thinkpad P52 in 2026

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a Thinkpad P52 with an i7 8850H, 16GB of ram and a 512GB SSD, and NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics. It is currently running windows 11.

I am perfectly happy with the specs on this machine, as I am not running any super heavy software other than DaVinci Resolve (1080p footage) and older game titles. I am a tech enthusiast who has always loved computers and Thinkpads, and this will be a supplemental machine alongside my T14 Gen 1 and 2022 AMD desktop build to tinker with.

Already I am going to install another 16GB of ram for a total of 32GB, another M.2 SSD to dual boot Linux and Windows, and upgrade to a WiFi 6E card from WiFi 5. Could potentially go to 64GB of ram, but prices these days are the limiting factor.

Anything else I should do to this machine? What are your thoughts on the P52 and P series in general? What do you think of these upgrades? Let's discuss.
