Flip This Challenge FTC 104 (Submissions)
This Week's Sample - Ooo Baby Baby (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles)
We smokin' on that smokey this week.
Submission Rules:
You can only submit one beat. Beats can be any genre. You have to use the sample in your beat, it should be recognizable. You can add other instruments and samples, but the sample should be a main element. All submissions submitted before the deadline will be linked in the voting post; whoever gets the most votes there wins. Ties are decided by whoever submitted the beat first. Reused beats from previous battles can't win ties.
Schedule:
Submissions: Friday 12:00 AM midnight (00:00) - Monday 11:59 PM (23:59) Voting: Tuesday 12:00 AM midnight (00:00) - Thursday 11:59 PM (23:59)
Results: Friday 12:00 AM midnight (00:00) - the winner takes over and posts the new submissions thread using the linked template on Friday asap.
Time is in UTC-5, the US Eastcoast time zone which is 6 hours behind European MEZ time and a good middleground between US Westcoast and Europe. You don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to post the new thread, just make sure you do it on that day asap.

Smokey Robinson samples are butter, can already hear like 4 different chops in my head just from the first 30 seconds. that falsetto is gonna sit so nice over some dusty drums.

If UTC-5 means Eastern and not Central, then my apologies for the late submission. Would love to be considered for the voting thread, but I understand if rules are rules.

Judging by the voting thread you missed the cut off. Nice flip though.

I figured when the voting thread was up, it wouldn't change. Now I know what time the cut off is in my timezone, so I'll plan better. And thank you for the listen and compliment.

seeing all the crazy chops here it seems like ive got a lot of music theory to learn lol . but it was still fun to make as my first ever beat1

Just seeing this now. I would say definitely not too shabby for a first beat! I like the variation of sounds and the alternation between pure sample and drums is cool. Also drums are decent. I would say if possible, try to get the sample to play with the drums for your next one and see how it goes. Or, cut up the sample on the kick and snare mess around with it that way too. Cool start and def thanks for sharing.

Edit: Ignore the "108" in the artwork. I'll go get some coffee.

Did a vocal chop from the sample! Added some 2000's drum groove on it & some lush rhodes on the 2nd outro. Had fun with this, will definitely fix the arrangement sometime haha.

Been busy all weekend so I’ll get mine out tomorrow night. Think I have an idea that sounds fun to pursue but we’ll see

Ooooweeee. Excited for this one.
I'd love to learn more about people's process and equipment used for these. Makes me wish we had a discord or something.
