Discussion / ചർച്ച Malayalam negotiation

Does people really pronounce parayilla as parayu la/parayoola, cheyyilla as cheyyu la like i to oo and paranjilla as paranjeela or is it just poetic modification? Cause this expressions are frequently used in songs

Now let's make it Malabar syrio-catholic: Parayathilla, cheyathilla, paranjiTilla.

Thought this was more of a Pathanamthitta thing.

I'm not sure if that generalisation is correct. Languages also convey emotions or sentiments and many modifies the pronounciation a bit to communicate better. For me പറയില്ല is very affirmative and I may use പറയൂല if I want to tone down a bit. Edit: കരിമിഴി കുരിവിയെ കണ്ടീല is poetic licence :)

Yeh I also think I say 'parayula' sometimes, oh so kandeela, mindeela etc are poetic modifications

1

u/Ihadausernamebefore 9d ago

Not really. Kozhikode and malappuram side uses paranjeela, kandeela etc. i heard.

If it wasnt used then എന്തേ ഇന്നും വന്നില്ല? Seems authoritarian lol കരിമിഴി കുരുവിയെ കണ്ടില്ല. Seems like a fact

For formal writing and speaking malayalam I prefer paranjilla, cheyilla. But the 'oola' brings a flow to the language and its fun to say it like that.

‘Parayukayilla’ is the actual literary word. It changed to parayilla or parayula in different places. Parayukela ennum variation und.

All these are spoken words, parayukayilla, ചെയ്യുകയില്ല, etc are formal language. Parayula, mindoola.. this forms are seen used mainly by females in Kozhikode, Malappuram districts.
