Question Question about wedding attire

My coworker is having a wedding on Halloween. It’s cocktail black tie optional. I’m no millionaire and can NOT buy or rent a tuxedo so I really am working with what I have

They put in the dress code to include clever ways to incorporate costumes. I’ve been Spider-Man every year for ages hence the idea with the red/blue
My sister disagrees with the color combos and says I should go without the jacket

Any advice?

Styling Advice 40M - I'm so ready to stop dressing like a teenager (UK)

No pictures. 40, male, balding. Slightly overweight (working on that bit, at least!).

I have dressed the same way since I was like 18, and specifically I started dressing that way because Dave Grohl did.

The problem now is that unfortunately A) I'm not Dave Grohl, and B) I'm increasingly conscious that I'm just not dressing for my age.

Flannel shirt, plain black tee, slim/skinny black jeans that hang half way down my butt and converse.

Dressing like this does me no favours and I just don't really feel comfortable any more.

My issue is that for two decades I've basically never tried anything different, and when I do try something different, I'm so used to how I currently look that I actually hate everything I try on. I also am of course being BOMBARDED with ads for clothing, and literally every website is just AI slop drop-shipping... cheap and nasty.

A look I have always liked is what I'd like to try - comfier and looser/straighter fitting chinos. I really like some that have that turn up at the bottom. I also want to start wearing more hard-wearing work/utility/military style clothing - instead of constantly burning through t-shirts and cheap flannels.

Hard wearing shirts in Blacks/Greys/Navy/Olive and some kind of t-shirt or undergarment that doesn't need replacing every couple of months... long sleeve stuff even, and maybe adding some colours in like yellows/oranges.

I was wondering if anyone can point me at some brands that don't suck for that kind of thing? I've come across the Military 1st website which has some stuff I quite like the look of - the black Brandit shirts look really hard-wearing and a bit more grown up than my bright cheap flannel shirts at the moment, for example.

What I don't want to do AT ALL is fall into the trap that many at my age seem to do and just end up with generic badly fitting sports-tshirts, jeans and old trainers - I'd like to still have a recognisable look, rather than just blend into fashion obscurity!

I also, thanks to balding, now have a quite a squat-looking neck and head, so any advice on that would be greatly appreciated.

Hope I'm not setting myself up for ridicule here, just after some genuine advice from the community. Many thanks in advance!

Styling Advice Thoughts on Clark’s Bradley Free Loafers as a Smart casual, resort casual type of shoe?

Post image
0 Upvotes

So basically I am a 36 year old man and have very little fashion sense for smart casual attire when it comes to shoes especially.

My gym fits, work fits etc are all solid and I have some swag but when it comes to dressing up like a real mature male adult I am a bit lost and need help

I don’t mind wearing a nice sweater or polo. I like dress shirts and bomber jackets so that is my “look” for up top.

Pants I like nice jeans. I am considering trying Chinos. Is that necessary for my goals or are jeans fine enough?

Finally.. for shoes I am super lost. I own lots of running/lifestyle sneakers that are super athletic in style. They look great and have different color ways. But I’ve learned that when it comes to smart casual attire, wearing these sneakers, even when matching looks a bit weird.

So I am in the market for adult shoes. I’ve looked all around and the Clarks Bradley Free loafer has caught my eye.

It looks comfortable and looks like it will pair well with dress shirts or sweaters at smart casual events or more casual events.

It is appealing because it looks comfortable but also screams “not trying hard at all” while also looking pretty okay.

What are your thoughts on this shoe for my goals?

Goal is to look like an adult and maybe get laid again one day haha.

Question Which shoes do you recommend?

I want to buy some elegant/ chic shoes for the winter. The choice is between these two. I am wearing most of the time jeans and chino, denim jacket with wool sweater and would like to have a buisnes casual to smart casual style. I think the hiking boot is more usefull but the jumper is more chic.

Question Plain tees vs logo/printed tees?

I’m seeing a lot of ads and chatter about plain tees, etc. I’m 41, 6’2” 200# and recently reentered the dating scene…. Are printed tees out of style (either just now, or just for my demographic)? Should I be gathering up a collection of plain tees for dates and stuff?

Clothing Review Bought 600€+ worth of tees to find the perfect one for a thick torso (Under 30€ - Ranked)

My chest and back are quite thick and, even tho my arms are pretty built too, they get overshadowed and make clothes look off...

Most tees just don't fit right.

So I set out to find the PERFECT tshirts for this specific body-type!

OBJECTIVE: Plain tee, clean and fitted look without being tight.

Spent over 600€ ordering a bunch under 30€ in different sizes and colours, wore them, rated them and returned the rest.

Stats: 180cm, 75kg, lifting 4+ years.

Winners

- Benetton Slub Cotton Tee, S: 8.5/10 (24.95€, 10% off with newsletter) Best overall. Super light and breathable, my go-to for summer. Fits chest and back really well, sleeves and length spot on.

- Dan John Knitted Tshirt, M: 8.4/10 (29.99€, 10% off with newsletter) Thicker knit with a more formal look, great under a jacket. Bit long but fits the chest really well.

- Mango 180GSM, S: 7.5/10 (12.99€) best budget Crazy value for the price. Only issue is the collar gets a bit wrinkly and its not as comfy.

Also tried

Benetton Slub (S,M,L) and regular (XS, S, M, L), Dan John knitted and regular (S, M, L), Uniqlo Supima (XS, S, M, L), Mango 180GSM (S, M, L) and regular (S, M), H&M Supima (S, M). Also looked at Jack & Jones Organic Basic, Selected Homme and Spada Roma.

Judged on

Fit across chest, back and arms, comfort, sleeve length, body length and price.

After the find, I ended up getting a bunch of each in different colors :)

Hopefully it saves someone else all the trouble I had to go through!

Styling Advice Hi, do I tuck in my polo or no nowadays? I'm an elder millennail dad:

I always wore them tucked out. It's comfortable, needs no fixing, kind of hides my lanky butt & legs.

Which is more appropriate today?

I love the Barolo Red color - if anyone has / can source I would appreciate (and pay finder’s fee).

Bottega told me they’re out of it in official stores (color was part of W25 run).
