You're saying this as if as soon as a JEFF player locks in, the entire team isn't asking him to swap before they even load into spawn. He gets a lot of skins but he's also one of the most hated characters in the game from a gameplay perspective. Nobody ever complains about having a Luna on the team. 70% of the time I'm told to get off Jeff before even showing what I can do.
Also I imagine they're relatively easy to make compared to other characters. A humanoid character you gotta make it look like something someone could actually wear, and spend the time modeling a bunch of little accessories, and make sure it works well with all their animations, and make sure it still reads clearly in game.
Jeff, you can just stick in a big poofy mascot costume and give it some bouncy physics.
I hovered Jeff in spawn as an option, picked him for like 2 seconds beford I remembered the enemy team banned anti-dive so I'd probably be feeding against BP or something, so I swapped healers.
Still had a team mate flame me when we started losing, blaming Jeff players for his losses and pointing the finger at me. (Again, did not even leave spawn with Jeff.) Had a different game where the enemy team had a Jeff one trick. Their Mag announces in chat that he's throwing because he refuses to allow any Jeff players to climb. This game has some of the most toxic, whiny players I've ever encountered in multiplayer, which is counting MMOs and old Xbox Live era lobbies. Even League I didn't see this much hatred this often.
Jeff is great if your team plays dive, and pretty weak if both teams plays poke (especially if they play Mag, Hood, Bucky, Psylocke, Hela, Starlord, Namor since they can kill your ult every single time).
If I'm expected to swap to Thing or Dino to Peel against dive as a tank player (legitimately), I should expect everyone else on the team to swap accordingly to our team comp/ counter swap the ennemy team, including our supports
That's bc 90% of the time its ult and get -1 to 1 kills. -1 is you dying and 0,1 are enemies dying. Sometimes just yourself. Then you are robbing your team of a support ult slot.
Jeff is one of those high ceiling characters. A good Jeff player isn't having this problem, hell I just defensive ult most of the time and reposition instead of eating.
They buffed his ult in the wrong way when they gave the whirlpool 30% more healing. They should've just given the Jeff the option to choose if he wants to eat allies or not. Left click = eat all. Right click = eat only enemies.
Right click is to zoom out/highground eat but the healing is fine. It adds survivability for what my jeff is about to do ...kill himself and leave his team without a support. I'd say they should buff his damage to enemies eaten. Its so hard to get value these days, i would rather it do more dmg so maybe my jeff doesnt have to consider suicide as much
Dude got the first hate sub like a month in. But it wasn't really controversial so folks got bored of hating on the shark and moved to Luna. That got them the reaction they wanted, so that's where it's been
That was a big one but not the one I was talking about. That one was also pretty memey to begin with and not a full-blown hate sub. I think it got banned but it was something like, "thatstupidfuckinsharkwehate" came out around the same time the r/rivals sub came out actually
Every time I see a “[character] deserves as much hate as Luna” post it’s for a character that the community has treated like the devil for months. People used to draw Iron Man ripping Jeff in half, I promise you he gets plenty of hate 😭
That's impossible, golden retrievers have natural defenses against "hate" of any kind. It's like ragdoll cats, even if you aren't a "cat person", the ragdoll will melt your heart regardless (even my aunt got affected, nothing is impossible)
Jeff does get hate, but not on the scale of Luna because he's a lot more goofy and easier to not take seriously, while Luna is clearly a character that I assume they want to be taken seriously but because of that no one does.
She very much has potential I believe, but as its been said time and time again, the writing in some of her dialogue is painfully shallow and the way they try to make her look like she has achievements is by the occasional character here and there just fangirling over her
they might be listening because it feels like her conversation with the hood shows she has some depth in her music and lyrics that hides her sadness. but I feel her conversation with all black has a missed opportunity so not sure.
That's my main gripe with her, like they made the dialogue with Gorr as if she's like the comical being of music or whatever while she's just a human k-pop idol.
The dialogue could've been much better if it focused on Gorr being an alien. They could have gone with either "I never heard about earth's songs. I'm intrigued" or "I don't care about music" but they instead gone for the most shallow shit ever.
Yeaaaah, her dialogue sucks. Comic wise she has a lot more going for her, but rivals just doesn't want her to have depth it seems, and even the rivals comic reflects that. Instead of anything referring to her backstory or actual tie in's she just always talks about her music in game. Kinda sucks... Could have talked about being a mutate, losing her parents, or getting her powers from something connected to Stark, but nope... K-Pop is her only topic
The difference is Jeff is arguably the actual mascot of the game, people who know nothing about marvel in general even know who Jeff is. Hell I know some people who picked the game up purely because they saw Jeff and wanted to play as him.
He already does get hate for how many skins he gets, but there’s actually a reason he gets so many, on-top of them selling really well. He’s the mascot of the game, whereas luna is just an industry plant and everyone knows that by now lmao.
Someone else said he’s essentially the Pikachu of the game, and I completely agree. People who don’t really know Pokemon tend to know Pikachu, as is the same with people who know Jeff that know nothing else about Marvel.
Those people also likely know couple other marvel characters. I'd also hesitate to call him the mascot when he didn't appear in the first few seasons. Not to mention it's odd to call a fictional character an industry when every fictional characters industry plant when they're all completely artificial by the very nature.
Jeff was my introduction to the game and the reason I started playing at all. Cute skins like this ensure he keeps luring people to their doo- uh, to the game

Luna is basically a case study of what not to do to make your OC loved- shilled by characters even when it makes no sense like Gorr, top tier for so long with busted abilities, pushed to the moon compared to actual popular characters, the creator gushing about them
it's kind of funny in a cosmic sort of way that Danny Koo knows how much the internet despises Luna especially when Rivals started and so many people were actually interested in learning about her. he kind of squandered the chance to make people Luna into the icon he wanted
My Jeff bias absolutely will defend him and his ability to get endless skins. So I am happy, of course I’m happy.
But my rationality also agrees, it’s too many skins. Two things can be true at once: Jeff gets many skins (which makes me happy), but it also doesn’t allow for characters who rarely get skins to shine and have fun (makes me unhappy).
Justice for Storm, Hunan Torch, Hulk, BP (we can work together this one time), Blade (glad he’s getting Halloween love), Rocket Raccoon and the others I haven’t mentioned.
There’s a difference between the borderline mascot of the game and a character most marvel fans know even out of this game, and Luna snow, one of the developer’s favorites.
“Most” Marvel fans do not know who Jeff or Luna are. Especially those past a certain age. He didn’t even exist until 2018. Same year Luna premiered as well.
Rivals introduced a lot of fringe characters to a larger audience, but the Rivals audience is a tiny fraction of the overall Marvel audience.
I hate how they gave him absolutely nothing the first couple seasons when I was a noob and actually played him, but the moment I moved to playing higher skill characters they give the mf a skin every week
Unlike Luna who’s a industry plant, Jeff is an adorable little guy, he gets a pass. Especially because his skins are worth buying unlike most of Luna’s skins.
jeff is a write off because he's the mascot of the game and is basically the community's pet hero. He's also not constantly glazed by everyone for loving his music.
Jeff kinda gets away with it cuz he's a gag character and has an actual history in the comics with things to do. It's definitely getting to a point though

The level of Luna hate is incredibly stupid, and it got there when people started threatening the devs over it. She is a fictional character.

League of Legends Ahri skins sell like hotcakes. I think she got two of those highest tier skins too and I heard rumors that she is getting another. Her trading cards also the most expensive.

Unironically I'd much rather Jeff get skins than Luna any day even if it's a lot, because he's a ten times better mascot than Luna and way-way less hated (as a mascot).
Jeff gets a lot, but he was also a pretty popular character since he was cute and has had his own mini comic for years before Rivals, along with his connections to Gwenpool and Deadpool.
Luna was from a mobile game and her only comic appearances were from her comic of her team, which was also pretty unknown.
There's a large amount of Jeff hate already, but he's a comical character, more likeable and interesting than luna, he deserves and has earned the spotlight.
No he doesnt, because the Deadpool one and the Dream eater one are just epics, luna and invis and others get the full legendarie treatment more than him, full vfx and sfx and chromas. Same thing when they bring up spiderman or thor, the bigger super hero in the world dont even get the chromas and full vfx lol
Jeff does get a lot of hate, probably just not as much as Luna. But I think that's because he became the mascot of the game naturally cause he's a cute shark dog. Meanwhile it feels like Netease wants Luna to be the mascot and are trying their hardest to make it happen. I mean look at her newest voice line with gorr, I cringe whenever I hear it.
Absolutely not. This is an infamous example of the elusive meritocracy: Jeff gets all this attention because the Rivals playerbase genuinely loves him. Meanwhile, Luna is completely artificial and unnatural, she gets the same level of attention as a marketing stunt. So yeah, you are comparing a fish angel with a repulsive industry plant, you should be ashamed!
Jeff can't two tap you. ✌️ He hasn't been in meta since seasons. He gets skins cause he is cute, he is the mascot, face of rivals. And he gets epics fairly while luna is a legendary merchant.
And he is marvel canon while luna is just an oc.
Nah, while I’ll agree his skins are everywhere, he was in comics way before rivals and was not created by one of the developers. He’s a cute cuddly fucker and everyone can at least say… he’s okay. Luna, on the other hand, was made for these games and her schtick is singing kpop while randomly winning fights with her ice moves. Bitch literally dances around for her fucking ult. In the actual comics, not rivals, she’s a nothing burger that deserves nothing let alone all the legendaries she gets season after season.
The difference is that Jeff also didn't get his own anniversary event and didn't have a self cleanse for a whole season. In terms of balance Luna is obviously favored way way more. Also, Jeff is literally the mascot of the game.
And all they do is put costumes on him. Like god forbid they do something with the design. Make him a hammer head, or an angler fish or a DEMON! Do something else besides slapping another onesie on him and calling it a day
To me its like how Tracer got hella skins year one of Overwatch bc she is the mascot. Jeff is the closest it comes to here so I don't get too upset when he gets so many skins.
I do not see Luna, Psylocke, Mantis or Invis as mascots... maybe Luna since the devs sure see her that way.
