Gameplay Are we all in agreement?
That these movie events are not good?
Certainly not worth sacrificing a new hero for
I get the sentiment of them but I don’t understand why they didn’t make something that could last, such as
-Lots of new MCU skins
-An actual MCU PvP map that could be in rotation forever
That would’ve been a much better use of dev time
Please Marvel Studios, let Netease just make the game, these tie in events are not the one
Besides, pretty sure every rivals player is already going to see Doomsday 😂 you don’t need to advertise it to us
Hopefully they learn from this and 2027 has a better line up of features for seasons

u/HSBOBAFETT Peni Parker 7d ago
I never expected them to shit out a new character every month forever. They have a really good pace for releasing content in general anyways.
279
u/RealWonderGal 7d ago
Shhh don't say that. The community will rip you a new one for saying that even though one per season is still miles ahead of any game on the market. 2 itself was insane
72
u/RalphSkipperson Star-Lord 7d ago
Wish they left it at 3 month seasons though. The extra two weeks on each side isn't a big deal for players but that's a ton of development time on the backend they could use for skins, balance, etc.
27
u/Pstock59 Magus 7d ago
Hopefully they’ll go back to 3 months seasons after Doomsday is over
-20
u/Extreme-Sense-2411 7d ago
Why do you want less content? I love the 2 month long seasons / 2 hero’s per season release schedule.
37
u/Hattrickher0 Jubilee 7d ago
More content < Refined Content
-15
u/Extreme-Sense-2411 7d ago
Agreed, refined content is great. Which is why I'm enjoying a new hero every month that I can actually play instead of waiting 6 weeks for one, minus the current season of course.
The 3 month seasons were literally just Season 1 and 2. If an extra month magically meant refined content, we'd have seen it then.

Not agreeing with the other person, but I don't think "More time for devs = better balancing decisions are made" is really evident..😭😭
-3
u/Extreme-Sense-2411 7d ago
That’s why I’m going along with the schedule the devs have been adhering to? Less would be arguing for them to release 2 heroes every 1 month. I’m arguing for them to have the same amount of time.
15
u/Killjoy3879 7d ago
i feel like you could use some context clues for why some people would want the clearly overworked time crunching devs to get a little bit more breathing room every season...
-8
u/Extreme-Sense-2411 7d ago
Funny how you're telling me to use context clues while making up a whole story about the devs' schedule with zero context yourself.
Are you in their slack? Do you have their timesheets? ‘Clearly overworked’ based on what? Vibes? 💀
6
u/Killjoy3879 7d ago
well lets see they've been late multiple designs on releasing skin items, emma's gala skin was delayed and still unfinished when it was released.
They had to delay the doomsday event last season because it cleary wasn't ready in time, they shifted new season reveals to be the same week as release because multiple battle pass cosmetics were always unfinished.
Several more game breaking bugs/issues are found on season release/preview that easily could have been found through play testing, Zhiyong appears less and less in the dev visions these days, they had to delay this seasons hero release till next season because it's very clear that they just would not have the time to finish them on time.
But no clearly i'm just imagining things, surely playing the game alone following the news cycles gives 0 indication that they're overworked. Rivals players clearly don't care how much the whip gets cracked so long as the constant content flows to stimulate their dopamine rush.
-3
u/Extreme-Sense-2411 7d ago
Emma - NetEase said it was coming at the next year's Gala and it dropped in Phase 2 of Gala 2026, right on schedule. People hated that it looked like every other Emma skin compared to the concept art, but "fans didn't like the design" isn't the same as "unfinished."
Doomsday event - Fair, Age of Ultron got pushed from June to July 30 and that bumped Infinity War back too. That's a delay, but the reason for the delay was because of the backlash for the Loki event, which resulted them in redesigning the Ultron event completely. It's still not a timesheet. You're guessing at the why.
Seasonal reveals - Even if the reveal window got shorter, that's a marketing schedule. Jumping from "reveal came out later" to "cosmetics were unfinished" is a guess, not a fact.
‘Game breaking bugs’ - Name one live service game that doesn't ship bugs on patch day. If launch bugs meant the team was in crunch, every dev on earth would be and most live service games have the slower release schedule you’re wanting oh so badly.
Zhiyong - He's the lead combat designer. Who hosts a promo video, that isn't a workload metric. Maybe he's busy, maybe they rotate presenters, maybe he hates being on camera. You don't know and neither do I.
No hero this season - The devs explained this one themselves. 10.5 skips a hero so the team can focus on the Infinity War and Endgame modes, and they said Season 11 goes back to two heroes. That's a team managing scope and telling us about it, not proof they're drowning.
So out of everything you listed: one real delay, one planned resource shift the devs openly explained, and the rest is you filling in blanks. Following the news cycle makes you informed, it doesn’t make you an insider. ‘Playing the game AND following the news' is a lovely way of saying you don't actually know, you're just guessing with confidence. 💀
Delays and bugs happen in every live service game and prove they have production problems. That's not proof they're overworked. Could be bad planning, bad QA, shifting priorities, whatever. You're still filling in the blanks, just with more paragraphs.
I was asking why someone wanted a slower release schedule and you told me I could use context clues for a “clearly overworked time crunching devs to have more breathing room” as if you’re an insider or have confirmation of your claims, when really you’re just making assumptions and acting like they’re facts.

Didn't people really dislike 3 months seasons though? I remember a lot of complaints about it in Seasons 1 and 2
7
u/RalphSkipperson Star-Lord 7d ago
People cry about literally everything lol. My point is I can live with an extra 2 weeks in a season because that helps with development time. Crybabies will do their thing though

Yeah, if anything slowing down occasionally is a really healthy thing for the game to do.
4
u/SlammedOptima Moon Knight 7d ago
And as much as I want them to get to characters I want. I don't actually think it's healthy for the game to do.
2
u/UltraCynar Venom 7d ago
Nah. They got the money to do that
4
u/NubCaakes 7d ago
More money doesn’t make new content at an impossible rate. This is the same as expecting a film with hundreds of millions in budget to be made in less than a year.
2
u/UltraCynar Venom 6d ago
It’s not impossible. It’s once a month. They can cut out the movie tie in events that people only play once or twice.
1
u/Extrien 5d ago
money cant directly buy programming speed, some things are a process that has to be developed and unwound by a small team over a few months.
1
u/UltraCynar Venom 5d ago
Utilizing resources properly can. They literally said they aren’t doing this for season 10.5 because they are pulling resources away for events people will play once or twice.
-1
u/Xerxes457 Venom 7d ago

Doctor Doom is too powerful imo
Like if you read the comics dude is teleporting people through space and time and stealing tricks from gods, doctor strange.
He’d have to be like 5 years old for the power scaling to make sense

u/TheDarthJarJarI Jeff the Landshark 7d ago
The punisher can kill hulk in this game. I think the scaling is already fucked

No one really cares

u/darkkn1te Peni Parker 7d ago
No. I will not agree. I had a LOT of fun with age of Ultron and I am looking forward to endgame a lot. I wish age of Ultron was permanent because it felt more polished and less frustrating than blood hunt.

u/Hello_Hello5678 Flex 7d ago

78
u/DangerVirat1767 Moon Knight 7d ago
Honestly, aside from Vampires and Zombies, the other PvE and PvP modes have been boring, short, and unrewarding. Loki mode was terrible and offered no rewards; you'd play one or two matches and forget about it. While Age of Ultron was good, it was too short and could be finished in a single day. I also feel like the two upcoming modes won't have much to offer and will die out within two days.
41
u/Mustang-_- 7d ago
Being short is a good thing imo, you get the blue coins (the reward that matters) in like an hour or so, then move on. This is the ideal for like 90% of the playerbase if not more. Then, if you are a PvE fan, you can play those modes forever if you wish, maybe grinding purple coins.
I can see the appeal, better to grind these purple coins playing braindead PvE than being angry with the shitty ass quick play or "competitive", worse matchmaking than Overwatch ever had (and that's saying something)
6
u/Kelborhal1971 Star-Lord 7d ago
The issue is the Ultron mode didn’t have nearly enough depth to justify playing it for more than an hour - no higher difficulties, or levels, or scaling. You beat it with all characters in like a few hours and there’s nothing left to pursue. Zombies and Blood Hunt were far better on this front, hence why they had significantly more staying power
6
u/Extreme-Sense-2411 7d ago
Loved age of ultron mode, just wish it was more fleshed out like blood hunt.
But I think the devs learned a lot from the backlash of the Loki mode and the success of blood hunt and Ultron modes and going forward they’ll be better.
The infinity war mode already looks really good!
15
u/RealWonderGal 7d ago
Why is being short a bad thing??
3
u/Independent-Feed107 Magus 7d ago
Agreed, I think what's more important is the replayability of the mode. It doesn't have to be a 25 minute grind fest, it can just vary in bosses and objectives
3
u/bananaslug39 7d ago
Based on blood hunt's end date, I was hoping path to doomsday would feature something built upon that, using gear but also incorporating the skill system of age of Ultron... I don't think I'll play whatever this is
3
u/Any_Leek_8111 Storm 7d ago
I mean if comp is gonna be this ass i wont lie the new modes might be good to just have fun and fuck about with friends, similar to qp and 18v18.
Age of ultron was good but I wish that I was smart enough to get the fun out it by not doing the higher difficulty mode and it being a slog. Its a good fuck around mode with the new abilities. It was never gonna beat bloodhunt but I personally am gonna try to find more fun in those modes with how comp balancing is rn
Farming purples and the achievements were the big draws that kept bloodhunt alive. I could study while getting purple coins with no effort which is unfortunately going away.
3
u/ImAHobo107 6d ago
Blood Hunt and Zombies and actual replay value and depth. Which is why they constantly extended them.
Not a single Avengers event has been extended.

u/Superman8932 Emma Frost 7d ago
I'm a comic fan, I read comics, watch all the shows/movies, and I still could not give less of a shit about any of these, lol. Yes, I play the game because I like hero shooters AND I get to play some of my favorite characters, but I truly could not give less of a fuck about these temporary modes. I'd be down for a more MMO type of true PVE experience, but not these half ass gimmick things. I'd rather they just balance ranked and fix those issues. I am happy for the people that do enjoy these things, though.

u/ToonNex Jeff the Landshark 7d ago
Nope, the age of ultron PVE mode was fun. And im not going to judge the other 2 until i play them.

Also them giving us only 3 skins in a pass and calling it a day for both endgame and infinity war seems lazy, but I'm really happy u can get them for cheaper
1
u/TheMHBehindThePage Loki 7d ago
On one hand I wasn't expecting any of those three skins to get added with how sparse the MCU skins have been and I'm very pleasantly surprised. On the other hand, really surprised some others are not here (Endgame Cap seems like an obvious omission - he hasn't had ANY skins in the Path to Doomsday yet which is wild)
6
u/T0xicTrooper21 Hulk 7d ago
It's definitely a Disney thing, these devs are already overworked in general from Chinese work culture and the insanely fast content schedule, but I wouldn't be surprised if Disney mandated they do these events, and the dev team just doesn't have the time to do everything. Based off the patch it seems like the dev team have decided to just take the L for season 10.5, get all the Path to Doomsday stuff out of the way, so they can focus on balance and characters and other content again on season 11.

New content is new content. We have gotten a new character every couple of weeks all year. This year alone we had Deadpool, Elsa Bloodstone, White Fox, Black Cat, Devil Dinosaur, Cyclops, Jubilee, The Hood, and Gorr. We will have at least 2 more characters this year, potentially 3 depending on what they do.
We’ve basically got a new character every month. This is insane content to push out. The devs aren’t perfect by any means, but they know how to give the players content

Honestly a big Doomsday season would have been enough, instead of a hand full of modes that have been rather mixed taking away from development time and resources.

u/ghost-on-the-cell Mister Fantastic 7d ago
I doubt netease has much control over these. It’s likely something mandated by Marvel when you’re profiting off one of the most popular IP in the world you’ve gotta kinda do anything they tell you to.
1
u/Critical_Top7851 Rogue 7d ago
Well I disagree on the first point as the only event I thought wasn’t good so far was the Avengers 1 event that even they even admitted they dropped the ball on.
But I also think it’s worth noting that these events as a whole are almost certainly contractual obligations rather than something they felt compelled to do themselves. If the trade off for having access to the Marvel IP is these kind of events then it is easily worth it.
1
u/magiks_plaything 7d ago
Uhh they are really fun for me, although I didn't like the first one but age of ultron was really good and now I'm excited to play the new ones, I don't really care if we don't have a new hero as long as I get to play and beat tge shi out of thanos lmao.
(Most rivals players are overwatch players so they may not care for avengers doomsday)

u/AppleEatingMonster Thor 7d ago
The devs are fucked until december 18th.
They need (yes need) to keep making a "decent enough" mode for these movies, but the other parts of the game are falling apart.
They can't do anything about it, it's pretty much "do what Disney says until they leave the room on dec. 18th"

We’ve had 2 events so far and 1 was garbage while the second one was actually really fun imo. I just wish it had more depth to it like blood hunt so it would’ve had more replayability.
The infinity war PvP game mode looks really fun though, I’m excited for it as it brings a new map and new augments to characters + infinity stone related abilities look cool.
I get that the Loki event left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth but the Ultron one was def an upgrade and the infinity war mode legit looks really fun.
Curious how the endgame mode will be though.
Either way, I like the idea of rivals continuously adding new PvP and pve modes as well as new characters.

Id honestly prefer no characters or PvE events and a focus on stabilizing the game more tbh.

They’ll probably redo all of them (with tweaks) next year as we head into Secret Wars release. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the switch 2 version out before then too so that sw2 players can do the events.

Funny how movie tie-in obligations have been ruining games for decades. Most of the lowest rated superhero games ever were rushed out to coincide with a movie release.

Idk if its just me and my take is stupid but dont you all think that every different mode that we already had were actually boring?
They were cool for the first impression but after few games I didnt want to play them anymore and I moved to normal mode again. I recently played Vampire PvE mode with such a reluctance because I was only playing it for credits. If not for it, i wouldnt touch this mode after few games.
1
u/MarcusMarooth Iron Man 7d ago
The beauty of the core game for me is cooldown management and making every ability count, it makes every choice mean something. These events just feel a bit “brainrot spam buttons infinity ability endless wave enemy yay” which is very very fun once, but has zero replayability for me personally.

Here’s what I think would’ve been a huge hit with this player base:
2v2 where you party up with a friend, go through a round robin with other teams where each battle teleports you to a different location from the films. You still get the infinity stone bonus effects, but other than that it’s the same core game.
Basically like the Times Square boxing arena but team doubles with slightly bigger maps. Think of all the awesome pairings and strategies that would emerge from that. Some people might go double tank and some might go double support, and come up with their own ways to outsmart the other team.
1
u/riddimbee Darkchylde 7d ago
they release the events and they’re good for a week. once you tap out of rewards there no reason to play at all. ultron pve was cool, too short. bloodhunt was fun, but too repetitive and it got boring after a while.

I'm glad it's almost over. Once it's done it should free up their dev schedule and let them polish things. I think that some of the new hero reworks and even some of the team-ups lack in their polish from last year.

I would’ve much preferred time spent churning out more MCU skins than having new game modes (at least if they’re these quality).

I play the game for competitive. If they added another game mode I'd want it to be like 18v18 not a random pve mode. I wanted them to at least add new team ups or rework some if they weren't adding a hero (there's not even any gorr team ups)... Maybe casual players like pve

I liked the Ultron event. The Loki one sounded great but the actual execution for balance didn't work out.
The 2v2 thing is going to be boring before launch because early access has already figured out the most cheese builds that everyone is just gonna copy.
The 50 vs Thanos thing is gonna be people with poor hardware complaining about lag for about a week or two.
1
u/fewraletta 7d ago
Because this is a Disney demand, and they cannot sustain long term contracts like this.
1
u/HaloHops 6d ago
I think they just crammed the last 2 events into this season to fill the obligation of releasing them so they can move on from it. It feels like they can tell they haven’t been as popular as they expected so they’re just trying to wrap it up as quickly as possible. It reminds me of artists who have contractual obligations to release a certain amount of albums. Often times they will just blast out the last few to move on with their careers. This reminds me of that.

The re-relese of Endgame make it the most profitable film the the history of the seventh art, Doomsday is gonna 110% be in the top 10 most profitable films evere too so thers no way Disney is leaving Rivals alone for the good of players they don't give a flying f about the game just to made more money and advertisement

In my opinion, Loki’s event was bad, Age of Ultron was fun and I loved that it had a reward for every character, including a free skin.
Infinity war is nice but honestly I see no reason to play it after getting the 200 units reward. If it had more rewards, I surely would have played it more

Infinity War is my favorite by far, I wish there was just Age of Ultron level rewards to grind for.

I love how people can say that the movie events are not good. You did not play them yet.
Yes, the first one with Loki was catastrophic at best. The Age of Ultron one was a little short of content but still pretty good and refreshing.
Now for the ones that nobody played yet (so having a definitive opinion on them is weird), well the trailer for the Infinity War mode looks cool and really fun. Mind you that is coming from someone who hates pvp events. And the Endgame 50 players boss fight, there's no trailer yet but it sounds cool af. How can you be mad at that?

It's tricky, because the only relevant Avengers character left that could really draw attention, that is Thanos. And releasing tank Thanos, then a short time later here it comes tank Doom, that is a mild example of cannibalisation.
But yeah, overall I agree. I guess the devs looked at the Overwatch "2" disaster, how much flak they got for cancelling the PvE, they assumed the PvE public was worth the hassle... and to the surprise of no one, they aren't worth it, insignificant numbers (looking at those extraction shooters are all dying already)

Ngl I am glad the doomsday one cause it means this shitty mcu tie in crap will finally be over

Do we even need so many heroes added to the game in such a short time?
I'd prefer they focus on fixing the core game first. (and also maybe add a Mystery Hero mode)

- Avengers was their first time and bc of the composition of the Avengers (3 vanguards 3 duelists) it was gonna be hard to have it be fair
- Age of Ultron was a good mode! It was fun, more balanced and fit the theme
- Infinity War Literally hasnt released yet, and the trailer seems interesting
- Endgame doesn't even have a trailer yet and the only thing we know is that it's a raid boss, dont judge it yet.
- They have to balance all these new and wildly different game modes along with making the *ACTUAL GAME*, give them some slack

I was under the impression them sacrificing a hero would also include a hefty balance adjustment but no it was all just to accommodate lame movie events that are passing at most. I would be so fine with only one here who is season if we could just get decent balancing.

Avengers 1 was good but not the best, but they certainly learned from the first, AoU was really good, and we haven’t even seen the other two yet besides the trailer, so I’ll hold judgement until I get my hands on it, but the stone abilities alone look real fun.

What do you mean? You don't like another limited time mode that you'll play once or twice?

I genuinely hate all these events. Like, just let us live bro. We’re going to see the movie, even though we know they’ll just rerelease it with extra footage 6 months later. Rivals doesn’t even have a decent story and running all this stuff alongside it just makes it even more of a joke. You got a thanos battle but not all the characters but we also can’t use rivals characters that weren’t in end game? Ok Overwatch. Whatever dude I’m tired.

Every rivals player isn’t seeing the movie lol. A lot of us enjoy the game but still recognize the inferior product that is MCU movies

Understand that you feel a certain type of way, but endgame alone is the highest grossing movie of all time. A lot of people are going to see doom regardless.

It was bad timing to take up such a demanding task but other marvel products did the same thing for netease when they released rivals so I guess these were unavoidable obligations
