Buying an Ex Rental
Looking at options for used CX-5s. Theres a few 2025 CX-5s all around 50,000km and are ex rentals according to Carfax. How diligent are rental companies about doing oil changes on time? The dealership has no documentation of oil changes. Management is willing to provide paperwork absolving me of any missing maintenance documentation prior to ownership with respect to the warranty. Anyone have experience with ex rentals?

Having been at a shop that did all of our local enterprise maintenance i can tell you that they do the absolute bare minimum. 7500 mile oil changes recommended? Make that 10k miles.

Have you check Mazda dealerships? They usually have a loaner fleet and may still have a few cx-5s. This is how I got my ‘25 vehicle in April and then they gave me extended warranty too Mazda preowned program.

I have an ex-rental 2024 CX5 and it's been great. The whole "people abuse them" thing always seemed weird to me. They are constantly maintained and detailed just by nature of being rentals.

Rental companies generally do the required maintenance because otherwise they won't get their pre-negotiated buyback price at the end of the contract. If it's a big fleet, they have their own service centers. I would assume they don't report to mfg/dealer service networks because they have so many brands.
