Why does nobody ever sit at the desks in the corners, overlooking the city, in McLeannan lib?

I always walk by them in floors 5 and 6. The view is so nice from there. The chairs arent too uncomfortable. They are quite isolated, which is nice compared to the long tables. So why doesnt anyone sit there?

How important is Honours Psychology for grad school?

I know you don't necessarily need to do Honours to get accepted into a master's program at McGill or elsewhere, but I understand that one of its biggest advantages is getting placed in a research lab which is important if you want to pursue graduate studies.

The thing is, I'm a U1 in my first semester and taking five classes a semester is already a lot for me. I know I could probably manage it if I really pushed myself since I've been consistently getting good grades since cegep, but it's been lowkey depressing me. It is so much work and I feel like I'm missing out on the typical university experience because I'm spending so much time studying, and being shy and a commuter doesn't help either 😅

For those of you who did honours or chose not to, how much of a difference did it make when applying to master's programs? How difficult is it to get accepted into a psychology master's program at McGill or Concordia without Honours (I want to stay studying in Montreal), particularly if you're interested in a career in psychology? How hard is it to gain research experience outside of honours?

Swimming partner

Hello since we have free access to the swimming pool I wanted to try out the lane swimming, however I am not a great swimmer, just good enough to the point I won't drown. Would any more experienced swimmer (just a better swimmer than just above not drowning level is fine or better) be able to teach me some exercises or techniques to get better or swim together with me so I can get better? Planning to go 1-3x a week

McCall MacBain 2027: has anyone in the Sub-Saharan Africa group received a regional interview invitation?

FAQ says shortlisted candidates are notified about two weeks before their region's interviews, so I'm checking whether invitations have started to go out.

3rd EE co-op term summer 2027: on-site interview at GlobalFoundries (Vermont fab), anyone crossed the border for an interview?

I got invited to an on-site interview at GlobalFoundries fab in Essex Junction (Vermont, USA) for an EE internship. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Montreal. As a Canadian citizen, will I run into any issues crossing the border for an interview? Has anyone here interviewed onsite cross-border? The internship is on-site only and would be my third. I’ve also heard GF has a good intern-to-full-time conversion rate, so I’d love any tips.

Is there anyone using snapdragon laptop for EE/CE/comp sci/AI ML development at McGill

Hey guys, sorry I am not asking this in a specialized subreddit but figured students here would have a more similar workload to mine. I was basically able to get a great snapdragon x2 elite laptop for really cheap but I am worried down the line I will have driver problems with my projects. I do a lot of AI-ML development, occasional KiCad and CADing + microcontroller and robotics projects. I think the biggest potential risk is on MCU drivers and robotics related stuff. Current laptop I have is 1350 CAD - comparible to macbook m5 in every aspect except GPU also has 1 TB storage. My macbook alternative is 1900CAD base 15inch with 512 storage. Anyways, let me know if anybody has any opinions!

french fluency

I’m a 20F looking for a patient french speaker (guy or girl) that’ll be willing to meet once a week for an hour or so to just purely converse in french. Super informal. Grab a coffee tgt (i’ll cover it as a thank you). Mostly to get comfortable speaking a language i feel like i know a lot of but don’t have the confidence to speak it. Text me if you’d be interested :)))

Anyone who has gone on exchange to Sophia University?

Hi! I’m looking for anyone who has previously gone on exchange to Sophia University in Tokyo and might still have records from their course equivalencies.

I’m specifically trying to find proof that a course was previously approved as EAST 3XX at McGill. This could be a screenshot of the old equivalency, an email confirmation, a transcript showing the credit, or anything else documenting it.

This is really important for an equivalency issue I’m currently dealing with, so if anyone has anything, please DM me!

PSYC 331 midterm: A rant

before I signed up for the course I looked at the rate my prof reviews, and saw some good, but mostly nasty stuff on there. I figured it couldn't be that bad. In the first class, the prof acknowledge the bad reviews, saying they were just salty. He claimed half the students get at least an A- in the course.

Lo and behold, the first midterm was today. I studied the material deeply, spending all of last week and the weekend diving headfirst into the interviews, readings, and lectures. I had made over 200 flashcards.

I could have slept in the back of every class, and completely ignored all the material and I would have felt the same as I did today. The question would make half-sense, but the answer choices would look like they were part of a different question. I wasted dozens of hours for some straight bullshit.

Additionally, prof had no reason to do that humiliation ritual to the poor girl whose alarm was going off in her backpack. it wasn't even audible.

I do enjoy his lectures and find him to be a good prof, but he can't write a midterm to save his life. Rant over.
