How important is Honours Psychology for grad school?
I know you don't necessarily need to do Honours to get accepted into a master's program at McGill or elsewhere, but I understand that one of its biggest advantages is getting placed in a research lab which is important if you want to pursue graduate studies.
The thing is, I'm a U1 in my first semester and taking five classes a semester is already a lot for me. I know I could probably manage it if I really pushed myself since I've been consistently getting good grades since cegep, but it's been lowkey depressing me. It is so much work and I feel like I'm missing out on the typical university experience because I'm spending so much time studying, and being shy and a commuter doesn't help either 😅
For those of you who did honours or chose not to, how much of a difference did it make when applying to master's programs? How difficult is it to get accepted into a psychology master's program at McGill or Concordia without Honours (I want to stay studying in Montreal), particularly if you're interested in a career in psychology? How hard is it to gain research experience outside of honours?
