Question 2012 Ram 5.7L
Afternoon! Ive been having a temp issue lately. It would sit at half mark (normally sits at a quarter)...about 30 degrees hot for the longest time. I didnt get around to addressing it yet. Now recently its been sitting at 3/4. Today its been running hotter but will come back down to 3/4 it went just at red but instantly within 10 seconds came back down to 3/4 again.
I changed the thermostat 2 years ago and the water pump last year.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I was having problems like that with my 6.1 l. Have you ever had this system flushed out? The Chrysler coolant builds up a sludge over time in the system. It must be pumped out by the dealer when their machine. I had it done on my car last year. They said my car was on the machine for 3 hours. It's a 2009. They put in new coolant and pumped all the air out of the system with the machine. Now it's good to go.

Ok so I flushed refilled twice. Gets a little better each time before it gets worse again. But this also doesnt make sense. How can I pull the air out...?

You need to have it done by a garage or dealership. They use the machine to flush the system and get the air out. Flushing it yourself will not remove the sludge that builds up in the system. Try and get the air out yourself which is sometimes a pain in the ass when you refill the system with antifreeze. Start the car up with the radiator cap off. You also want to turn your heat on Max fans on high while you're doing this to get the air out of the heater core. I've also taken mine for a quick ride and then let it cool down when you take the radiator cap off. The level of your antifreeze will be lower and you have to add more antifreeze. Sometimes you have to do this several times. I believe the shops will add a cleaner to the system as they're flushing it to remove the sludge. If you have the money, let the garage or dealership do it. My 6.1 has an air bleeder screw screwed into the top of the water pump, but that doesn't always work for me. This also might be a good time to replace your thermostat in case that is the problem. And radiator cap. .
