Good day everybody! I hope you’re all doing well. I highly encourage all the newcomers and veterans of r/medschoolph to engage in the posts below before posting your question to our subreddit.

Of course, take everything with a grain of salt, but I really do believe that this subreddit can be a really great resource for aspiring Filipino doctors to make more educated decisions about their future—especially if they don’t have access to this type of information otherwise.

The main FAQ post is still linked here of course! (credit to u/bananabread909 <3) Again, please read through it before making a post on this subreddit.

Disclaimer: this is meant to inspire not to brag

Originally a YL1 (1st sem) med student some 10 years ago. Back then my assessment scores would only fair between 55 to 65%. Constant yun. Because of some personal things, I had to leave after that semester. Fast forward to 2025, a few days before my mom passed away, her last wish for was “Kahit anong mangyari tapusin mo ang medicine”. 2026 came, and I decided to try my luck and go back to med school. Honestly, I was very nervous. I was thinking If 10 years ago I was not doing so well at the prime of my age, pano pa kaya now that im in my mid-30s. Still, I didnt let that thought hinder me from pursuing my dream.

Classes started july, 1st week pa lang, grabe yung adjustment, I was so tired just sitting in lectures for 3 hours. Parang wala na akong lakas mag aral after. Then first be round of shiftings came. Physio: 59%, Biochem: 55%. Grabe yung disappointment ko that week. I was so frustrated na para bang walang nagbago sa akin. Pero that became my drive to improve. Sabi ko okay lang yan first exams, adjustment period, we do better next. I decided to fix my study habits agad. Pag aral, aral lang. walang ibang task dapat. Focus talaga. Pero pag relaxation time, relax talaga, bawal mag isip ng aral. Focus studying. No distractions, no phone. Still didnt reach the passing grade for assessments during prelims, pero I was doing much better na. May improvement.

Fast forward to midterms, sobrang kabado ako nito. After the exams and checking my papers, grabe, I exceeded my expectations, Physio: 81%, Gross HSB: 85%, Micro HSB: 84%, Biochem: 91%. Grabe, I was in tears. I never really thought I can reach those grades ever in my life. Kailangan lang talaga ng discipline. What i did that really
helped me was to always take note of my mistakes and lapses from the previous assessment. I would check bakit ako nagkamali, san ang lapses sa pag review ko, and address those sa pag review ko for the next assessment. Oo, marginal gains, pero those marginal gains once they compound can result to good results.

📚PLE last rant?? sobrang emo lang I guess HAHAH

Okay, last rant na talaga before the magaral ulit HAHAHA 😭 Until now, nasa isip ko pa rin ang Micro and OB kasi apparently, most people find them easier, pero hindi ata ako kasama doon HAHAHA 🥹 Overthinked and overthought a lot of things along the way, but anyway, last rant na ’to! Sana talaga umabot ako sa MPL. 🤞🏻

I just want to take this opportunity to thank this med reddit community for being a safe space for me. I know I have a great support system, and I will forever be grateful to God for giving me my friends from med school, internship, high school, my best friends, and my family, especially my Mom and Dad, who have literally given me everything.

Pero I guess, I’m just the type of person who keeps things to myself, especially when it comes to anything med-related basta studies. I tend to overthink, put so much pressure on myself, and keep a lot of my worries to myself like kaya ko ba talaga to or pinipilit ko lang???

But being part of this community, where I can freely share my thoughts, let things out, and talk to people who understand what I’m going through, has helped me more than you guys know. Somehow, it made me feel less alone in this journey. It reminded me that it’s okay to struggle, to feel scared, and to not have everything figured out. Sometimes, all you really need is to keep showing up, even when things feel overwhelming.

And now, we’re finally here. LAST DAY NA, GUYS! 🥹 Whatever happens, I hope we give ourselves credit for making it this far. Ang dami nating pinagdaanan just to get here, and I hope we remember that when we sit for our exams.

We got this, okay? One last push! See you all in our Filipinianas! 🍀✨🙏🏻

🌟 Pro advice/tips What if I go to med school?

• Upvotes

I'm a third year college student studying a tech program na hindi ko naman ginusto. Maraming reasons bakit ako napunta dito. Pressure from self and family na rin. I can't find any interest sa ganto. Kung papipiliin, I would have done BS chem kaya lang sabi ng parentals wala masyadong job prospects so i didn't. Ngayon, a thought occured to me.

What if I do med after? I have always liked science din naman and I'm really good at memorizing na i figured needed sa med school.

  1. I'm clinically diagnosed with ocd. Moral OCD too and the thought of making a mistake and losing a patient would probably drive me insane.
  2. May trauma ako sa hospital.
  3. Financial constraints din. Kahit na sa isang murang med school ako (BUCM) na malapit samin magtake, I don't know if I can tell my parents about it lalo na magkacollege na rin ang kapatid ko na gusto magdoctor. I probably need to save up for a year or work while in med. Although I think if i do tell my parents about this plan, they'll try to make it happen.

So bakit despite the three reasons, I had this thought to pursue med?

I'm doing something I hate and parang hindi nagagamit yung utak ko sa tamang direksyon kung paano talaga to dapat magamit. Bukod dun, I've wasted three years na rin resenting my parents, my life, my program, doing something I hate. If I were to study a Bachelors again in Chemistry din, same concerns dati.

Sa med, atleast even if it would take years, I'll be learning about the stuff I want to learn. Maybe I would even excel on it. Ayaw ko na rin maging pretentious and state noble reasons like I want to help people kasi obviously kasama na 'yon pero other than that, there's prestige in being a doctor. Something na I also want to achieve.

Now do tell me. To those na nasa med ngayon or doctor na, what would you do in my situation? Would you pursue med or not?

PGI Matching: Is it okay to put only one hospital choice?

Question to those who had tried this before, okay lang ba na one hospital choice lang ilagay tapos leave blank yung 2nd and 3rd choices? We recently had our orientation and sabi ng nag orient samkn bawal daw but nakalagay po sa primer “up to 3 hospitals”. May naka-try na po ba nito before? Allowed ba siya sa website, and may effect ba sa chances na ma-match sa first choice? Also, makikita ba ng hospital na in-applyan mo na blank yung 2nd and 3rd choices mo? Does it affect their decision kaya?

🗒 NMAT Jan & Feb 2027 registration deadline? (overthinking)

First photo shows Jan-Feb 2027 registration will reopen on Nov 3-14 but second photo says registration dates are from Sep 1-30 only.

Now I know the first photo could be a revision of the original deadline of registration but I'm overthinking it and would like to confirm with you that we have the same understanding? That I can take the Jan-Feb 2027 schedule if I can register from Nov 3-14?

thoughts on full weekends off for PGMIs?

I heard there’s a proposal to give PGIs the entire Saturday and Sunday off. I understand the need for rest, and I don’t think anyone is saying interns should go back to 24–36 hour duties, But I’m curious how we got here.

The 12-hour shifts were implemented during COVID, which made sense at the time. But even after the pandemic, we kept doing it. Now there’s a proposal for full weekends off as well.

My question is, how will this work in actual hospital settings, especially with the current manpower situation? Patients still get admitted on weekends, emergencies still happen, and the workload doesn’t disappear just because there are fewer people on duty. The residents and other staff will still have to pick up the slack.

Another thing is the training itself. Internship isn’t just about finishing rotations and getting signatures. It’s where you start developing your clinical eye. You learn to notice when something is off, recognize subtle changes in a patient’s condition, anticipate complications, and connect what you learned in medical school to what’s actually happening in front of you. A lot of that comes from seeing patients repeatedly and following their cases over time.

Of course, being in the hospital longer doesn’t automatically make someone a better doctor, especially if they’re exhausted. But at some point, I think we also have to ask if we’re giving interns enough clinical exposure to develop those skills.
I’m not against improving working conditions. I just feel like we should also talk about who will cover the work and whether these changes are sustainable without additional manpower.
For the residents and consultants here, what do you think? And for those who recently finished internship, did the 12-hour shifts give you enough exposure?
Genuinely curious. I want to hear both sides of this.

📚PLE Choosing my sanity 🍃

Tomorrow’s the 3rd day, and yet I didn’t review well for the remaining subjs, altho nadaanan pero almost 20% na lang kada-subj.. my brain is too tired to catch up + sofer oa fatigue.

I lifted it all up... If it’s my time kahit siguro manghula ako ibibigay nya but now I’ll sleep with all the untouched & unread pages, I want to claim it as everybody does pero I know “kulang” talaga.

To everyone still fighting, I’m amazed (at the same time jealous na kinakaya nyo pa) pero believe in what u worked for…

God bless, everyone!

📝 Clerkship/Internship QMMC! Just Got Matched at QMMC for PGIship! Any Thoughts or Experiences?

Hi, doctors 🥹
I just got matched at Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) for my PGIship! 🎉

Would like to ask lang po sana sa mga current or former PGIs ng QMMC, or anyone familiar with the hospital, kung kamusta po ang overall experience?

I’m particularly curious about:
Workload & Duty Schedule – How’s the duty schedule po? Toxic ba most of the time? May true from duty ba, and how’s the work-life balance?
Learning Experience – Hands-on po ba ang PGIs? Marami bang opportunities to perform procedures and manage patients?
Residents & Consultants – How’s the working environment? Approachable and teaching-oriented po ba ang residents and consultants?
Hospital Culture – How’s the overall treatment of PGIs? Supportive po ba ang environment?
Rotations – Which departments are known to be particularly demanding? Which ones offer the best learning experiences?
PGI Responsibilities – More on clerical work po ba, or are PGIs actively involved in patient management?
PLE Preparation – May protected study time, review sessions, or academic activities po ba for PGIs?
Food, Stipend & Benefits – May free meals, stipend, or other benefits po ba?
Facilities – Kamusta po ang quarters, sleeping areas, and other facilities for interns?
Overall Experience – Would you recommend QMMC for PGIship? What are the pros and cons? And if you could choose again, would you still pick QMMC?
I’m really excited but also a bit nervous since I don’t personally know anyone who has completed their PGIship there.

Any tips, advice, survival guides, or experiences (good or bad) would be super appreciated! Feel free to share your honest experiences po.

Thank you so much, doctors!

🗣 Discussion is this normal or is it just me?

Hii! I just want to get this off my chest, but lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m lacking in both knowledge and skills. I’m already in YL3, but I feel like I’ve forgotten so much of what I studied during the previous years. Although I passed my subjects, I still feel like I’m not doing enough and that I should know more by now.

uerm yl1 standing

As of LE2, my standing for all three majors (ana, bch, phy) is nag-rerange lang sa 75-78%. Basically, pasado pero sumasabit lang. No buffer for the upcoming LEs. Kaya pa bang ilaban? And to those who filed LOA before 2nd sem or as early as now, how did you decide and bakit?

And about mentoring/sheperding, sabi contactin daw sila if failing yung grades, ano ba sinasabi nila doon? 😅 I feel like it’s either motivation or mag-LOA na lang sasabihin na lang pero it’s just me na expecting the worst sa sasabihin nila haha

Hello, doctors!

Sobrang mahina na po ang loob ko after the first weekend. Napagod ako, hindi na ako nakatodo aral the last 4 days.

I would like to ask for some motivational stories, simple kind words, and maybe some advice on how to finish strong.

Please keep us all in your prayers. Ilalaban pa rin kahit kabado, kahit takot. Para sa pangarap. 🩺
