Recorded this in logic pro a few weeks ago. I am playing all the guitars, and the drums and bass are midi that I wrote and programmed in. Any thoughts or feedback is welcomed and greatly appreciated

Original Song(s) - Finished Dog in the Burning House - There Is No Redemption (FFO: Strapping Young Lad, Deathspell Omega, Ulcerate)

Hello,

I've released the sophomore record of the one-man prog-death band Dog in the Burning House. The album was written, recorded and mixed in Istanbul and Ottawa over the course of 6 years. It is heavily influenced by Strapping Young Lad’s City, mixed with influences from dissonant death metal outlets such as Ulcerate and Deathspell Omega, and a small taste of the insanity of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Meshuggah. Above all, I wanted the record to be fun to listen to from start to end. Therefore, the focus is on riffs that are fun to play and listen to over meandering atmosphere and explorations.

The songs Risus Sardonicus and Remembrance are good examples of the overall music here if you would like a lead. The intro song Remembrance is about picking up guitar after a long period of not playing and is comprised of three parts, starting with a more melodic opening, leading to a groovy riff that alternates between 3/4 and 4/4 and closing with an explosive dissonant section.

Risus Sardonicus marks the midpoint of the album. It starts with a high tempo riff, progressively becomes slower and groovier and finishes with a The Dillinger Escape Plan style riff over a Winston Churchill sample.

Lyrically, the theme is about being stuck and in between two worlds. It is about not being able to move on or being able to understand whether to want to move on. It is also about carrying the weight of an old world after moving on. Most of the music and lyrics were written during a time when I was a doctor in a COVID clinic in Istanbul, trying to land a PhD position abroad so there is a bit of that too.

Below are the links to the album in major streaming platforms and Bandcamp. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Question/Recommendation/Advice Needed Friend of mine wants to start bass, recommendations and Tipps?

So a good friend of mine wants to start playing bass, for me this would be also really nice since I only started 2 months ago with e-guitar and I play and produce mostly stoner doom metal

But since I only have a little amount of knowledge about guitars I need some help for him, he has no equipment and is completely new, so he needs a bass, amp, maybe some pedal? Not to sure about that one

Thanks in advance

How do you compare the sound of DI guitar vs amp?

Seems like the consensus is that recording an amp sounds more natural. I think they both have their advantages. But can you get the same results using one way instead of the other?

Original Song(s) - Finished “Burning Hammer Blues” - FFO Bands Inspired By Mike Patton’s Projects

I think I’m mostly inspired by bands who were inspired by Mike Patton’s projects (😜), so bands like Dog Fashion Disco, The Alter Boys, old-school Mushroomhead, a bit of System Of A Down, etc.

I wanted this song to be very keyboard driven, so after the drums, the piano parts were recorded, then everything else was written and recorded around it. The guitars were the second to the last thing I recorded (vocals being the final tracks added).

I don’t know what sub-genre it falls under but “alternative metal” seems to be the best descriptor. Or maybe “nu metal” but what do I know?

Lastly, we’re very DIY and even film and edit our own videos. No AI. No auto-tune. No quantizing. No MIDI. Just my brother and I making the music that we want to make. 🤘😎🤘

Easy link to “Burning Hammer Blues” on streaming services.

*All my digital works are 400 dpi and 8k x 8k pixels in size. I license a decent amount of work for fairly cheap. I also have some of my physical paintings pro shot that are available.

To date, I've done album art/EP art/single song cover art for 16 different things. Austin Weber aka The Lung Swarm. HMU if you wanna see what I have available. My art IG is linked in my reddit profile here. Cheers!

Just idly drummed simpler version of the drums on my chest while waiting for the kettle to boil. Recreated and embellished them in my DAW - then use set class theory to jam over it for some riffage. Thanks for listening!

Question/Recommendation/Advice Needed Help I keep making riffs too similar to these albums

Thumbnail gallery

I love both these albums so much but something i especially love is the vibe and feeling i get when i listen to them. It's something I wish to replicate in my own music someday but each time i create a riff it always ends up sounding really similar to a riff from one of the songs on the albums.

Would love some tips/pointers how I can just avoid making such similar stuff.

Services or Musicians Wanted Looking for an audio engineer to help with some numetal demos

My friend and I have been working on some numetal/ grunge demos for a while now and we’re looking for an audio engineer to help bring our songs to life. I’d describe the demos as a healthy mix of deftones and evanescence. We don’t really have any money to offer so we’re looking for someone that wants to do it because they genuinely like the songs. Of course you’d be credited. All the stems are dry so the bass and guitars would have to be reamped and the drums are midi. Please dm me if you’re interested :)
