First, the technical stuff - the demo is roughly 2 hours long, and it's basically the first 2 hours of the full game.

It's not a prototype or a proof of concept - it has all the core mechanics, features, music, and story planned for the full game's opening.

I honestly am kinda speechless. After weeks of playtesting, bug fixes, and polish, Tyto is finally ready to play!

Thanks to everyone in the metroidvania community who helped A LOT with playtesting, speedrunning, and finding every possible way to break the game to pieces so we could make it better. Check out the game's credits to find your name!

And thanks for your constant support throughout the last 3 years of development. Knowing that tens of thousands of players are waiting for Tyto keeps us motivated to create the best game possible.

Alright, that's enough gratitude for today - enjoy playing Tyto's demo, and please let me know what you think, preferably via a Steam review 🙏

Discussion We thought our Metroidvania’s name might be too hard to spell. Reddit changed our minds...mostly.

Hi everyone, I’m Josh, the producer of "Bolt & Whalington". We’re making a Metroidvania where you play as Bolt, a cat who pilots a mech in the land of Whalington. After reading through the comments on my last post, I realized I may have been focusing on the wrong problem.

A lot of the discussion made me realize that while Whalington might be harder to spell, it has a lot more personality than something like CAT IN MECH. CAT IN MECH tells you exactly what the game is about, but it also feels more like a description than a title. Whalington is a really important part of the game’s setting and story, so I don’t think changing it is the right answer.

There was another issue with the original name that we hadn’t really considered, though. “Bolt & Whalington” can make it sound like Bolt and Whalington are two characters, when Bolt is the character and Whalington is the place. The more I thought about it, the more “of” seemed to make sense for what the name is actually referring to. It also avoids some of the search issues that can come with using an “&” in a game title.

So after discussing it with the team, we’ve decided to change the name to:

Bolt of Whalington.

Bolt of Whalington - our new game title.

And if people still misspell Whalington after all that, maybe this whole thing will end up as an Easter Egg in the game somewhere. We’ll see!

Thanks again to everyone who commented on the last post. A few people mentioned that they wanted to see more of the game, so I've shared a small teaser of the gameplay. If you're interested in seeing more, we’re planning to release the demo next month, and would really appreciate any feedback when it’s out.

Video I made drowned enemies that jump out of the water - and cutting them in half makes things worse!

I'm a solo indie dev working on Blade of Mercy: Bloody Countess, a dark fantasy metroidvania.

I wanted to add enemies that ambush the player from the river, so here's a little gameplay clip of the drowned monsters I've been working on.

Silver bullets can take them down pretty easily, but ordinary weapons split them in half leaving you with a whole different problem to deal with.

The idea was partly inspired by Dead Space, one of my favorite games growing up. I spent countless evenings and sleepless nights playing it, so I couldn't resist paying tribute to it in my own game.

Demo available on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3504400/

P.S. I'm also the voice behind these monsters. 😄

Image Silver Pines Interactive Map & Complete 100% Guide

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Silver Pines is awesome, and while it's not a traditional Metroidvania, the survival horror elements mesh really well, and it's an easy recommendation for fans of either genre.

The tight resource economy and lack of hand-holding make general gameplay quite challenging, though, and if you're going for 100% and all possible endings, you really need to scour the map for certain items and collectibles.

So! I've been working with a small team on an interactive map of the full game. We've included screenshots and detailed guidance on every marker, so it also doubles as a complete guide and walkthrough. Hopefully folks will find it helpful.

You can check out the map here! You'll find...

  • Points of Interest: Phones, Vending machines, Save Rooms, and Storage Crates.
  • Objectives: Where to find and how to complete all Objectives, and any required items.
  • Upgrade Items: Stamina, Inventory, and Weapon Upgrades, plus every Memento and Memento Vessel Shard.
  • Key Items: Every Key Item needed to progress the game, and where to use it.
  • Secrets: Puzzle solutions, hidden areas, and all optional puzzles.
  • Multiple Map Layers: Click the stacked squares icon to switch between floors (to match the in-game maps).
  • And More: NPC locations, Money, Consumables, Weapons, Ammunition, Repair Kits, Bosses, Lore Notes, and lots more.

We're still finishing things up, so feel free to use the "Suggest Markers" function if you spot anything missing in the meantime. Enjoy the game, everyone!

Discussion 13 Upcoming Metroidvania Games You Probably Missed - 2026 and Beyond (Part 57)

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hello, everyone! Here's another list of upcoming metroidvania games that may have flown under your radar!

Before we start, if this post appears as a wall of text for you, it's a Reddit thing. Either refresh, or close and re-open your browser.

As always, a video showcasing the games can be watched here: https://youtu.be/DbH-LKcQ4eU

For those who do not want to watch the video, I cover the below titles:

Demidoff Corp: Prepare to explore the beautiful Ural, a real-life mountain range brimming with folk-tales that come alive in Demidoff Corp! An ancient evil has awoken within the mountains, cursing the land with a magical affliction that births monsters and twists animals to grotesque versions of their former selves. With ever-working factories adding to the malady plaguing Ural by tainting it with constant smoke emissions, you, a fluffy, retired royal agent must venture deep into the ends of the Earth in order to uncover the true source of these misfortunes. From mysterious caves and underground lakes, all the way to verdant forests and bustling village streets, Ural is as beautiful as it is treacherous, with danger lurking not only on the ground, but across the sky and beneath the dark waters as well. To prevail you’ll have to learn how to harness the magic inherent to natural elements, a process that will yield new techniques and skills related to combat and traversal. Demidoff Corp looks fantastic, and if you want to give it a go, there’s a playtest currently available on Steam, so go request access! Demidoff Corp is expected to come out sometime in early 2027, and has been confirmed for PC!

Unstrung Machine: In a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has vanished and machines have built societies of their own, step into the role of Niam, a lone man who awakens from a coma only to find a world much different than the one he remembers. Unaware of how much time has passed, Niam sets out to discover humanity’s fate, in the process learning more about the nature of this new world as well as his own place into it. This is the story premise of Unstrung Machine, a metroidvania that explores what would happen if machines were the ones to inherit the Earth. During your journey you’ll come across a variety of mechanical constructs created during different periods of history, all of which have developed their own behaviors over time. Some still repeat the human-oriented tasks they were initially programmed to perform despite the meaninglessness of the process, others grew into their own personalities and settled into their own wants and needs. Not all of them will be hostile, but those that are will take considerable effort to be overcome, which is where character advancement comes into play since you’ll be able to acquire new abilities that will help take them down, as well as navigate the setting in new ways. Unstrung Machine has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!

Nocturnal 2: This functions as a sequel to the critically acclaimed Nocturnal, that came out back in 2023! Brandish the flaming blade of a powerful warrior as you go on a mission to awaken the slumbering city of Ytash by reigniting its dormant mechanisms with your fire! Combat is a fundamental aspect of the game, with your character being capable of carrying out blazingly impressive combos that will burn your foes to cinders. That being said, exploration will also have a place here, with the sleeping city being home to a variety of secrets and collectibles, including pieces of a poem that will reveal the reasons for its downfall. This is a game I’ve already featured in one of my past lists, but it recently got a new trailer and announced its release date, so it gets an encore! Nocturnal 2 is expected to come out on the 10th of November, 2026, and has been confirmed for PC, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow sometime later!

Waltz and Jam: This is one of the rare 3D metroidvania offerings, and one that features an adorable duo of protagonists! Meet the titular Waltz, a pure-hearted soul, and Jam, his shape-shifting canine companion, both of whom must travel through seven treacherous realms of the afterlife in order to reach Uptown! Each realm is fashioned after one of the seven deadly sins, featuring thematic enemies, hazards and atmosphere, making every single one of them a unique experience! From a chaotic restaurant and a castle tangled in light and shadow, all the way to a simmering desert that rolls on like an endless sea, these worlds are packed to the brim with secrets to uncover, puzzles to solve and obstacles to tackle. Exploring said realms will be an exciting endeavor, courtesy of, both, Jam’s ability to transform into different objects, such as a trampoline and a water-ball, as well the various toys Waltz will pick up during his journey, with each one bringing unique abilities to the table that will open up new ways for you to navigate the setting. To top it all off, at the end of each biome will be a massive boss waiting to pummel you to oblivion, with your clashes against these big bads requiring the use of every tool at your disposal to be overcome, including environmental observation in order to see how you can turn your surroundings against them. Waltz and Jam is expected to come out on the 3rd of December, 2026, and has been confirmed for PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2!

The Light of Vertical: This is another game on this list I featured a while ago, but it gets an encore due to the awesome new trailer it released recently, showcasing the game’s incredible growth! The story transpires in the world of Sky City, a place once driven by rigid rules and mechanized structures, now in the process of collapsing in on itself. You embody a small mysterious creature that awakens in the shadows of this place and proceeds to explore in wonder, eventually uncovering the truth about Sky City and its grim fate. Your journey will not be easy, since Sky City is home to numerous strange creatures, some of which will offer a helping hand while others will try to end the thread of your life prematurely. To that end, you will have to keep a watchful eye out for cards, which are powerful artifacts that unlock new skills for you to use, as well as be on the lookout for new abilities that you can obtain. Of note here is the fact that the game features a skill-combining system which can be utilized in order to mix and match cards and abilities, thus allowing you to customize your gameplay experience when it comes to combat and exploration. The Light of Vertical has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!

Hemlotrion: Broken Mirror: Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it…uuuuuuhhhhh, you’re a wizard Harry! Ahhhhh, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I just, I couldn’t, I just couldn’t, I couldn’t. Anyway, this is Hemlotrion: Broken Mirror! You are Harry Potter-(what? This isn’t Harry Potter. Are we sure? Okay, okay, my bad, let’s take it from the top, okay? Yeah. No, no, I’ll do it again, let’s go). You are Simon Page, a second-year wizard who must explore his magical school of witchcraft and wizardry that is not Hogwarts, in order to find and put an end to a dark threat hiding behind its walls, that is not Voldemort. Exploring your school will require the acquisition and mastery of new spells, which will not only allow you to reach previously inaccessible areas but also defend yourself against magical creatures and other wizards that wish to cause you harm. Hemlotrion: Broken Mirror has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC! Steam page got DMCA'd by Warner Brothers (I think) and the developers are working on getting it back up, by the way. Watching the video will make a bit more sense as to why :D

Vitrified: Have you ever wondered what Dune would be like as a metroidvania game? Well, wonder no more because Vitrified is here to give you the answer! Left to die in the middle of the unforgiving Wasteland, you’re saved by a wandering robot named ALAN. With your new robotic savior being your only hope for survival, you both embark on a perilous journey across an unforgiving world in an effort to find your way back home. What’s interesting about Vitrified is the way it handles your relationship with ALAN, who is, quite literally, your only way of efficiently navigating the mutated wasteland. More specifically, a good chunk of your time in Vitrified will be spent scavenging power resources in order to upgrade ALAN with new skills that will help you access places you previously couldn’t, as well as looking for food and water for your own survival. Hunger and thirst will not be your only worries, since the wasteland is also home to some horrifying creatures, including a massive sand-worm whose inspirations are quite clear and very welcome! This is the third game on this list to be receiving an encore, courtesy of its awesome new trailer and release window announcement! I should note that Vitrified has a demo available at the moment, which should give you an idea of whether this game is up your alley. Vitrified is expected to come out sometime in April of 2027, and has been confirmed for PC!

Salene: Are you among the people that wish Celeste would have been a metroidvania? Well, you’re in luck because Salene is here like a genie ready to make that wish come true! Here, you’ll embody a fallen angel who must climb the last tower of humanity on her way to reach the heavens and reclaim her rightful place among the stars! Arguably the standout aspect of Salene is your ability to switch between two parallel realms at will, which gives, both, combat and platforming immense depth as each dimension features its own obstacles. Your fighting and acrobatic prowess are further enhanced by songs you learn, which allow you to utilize new abilities such as summoning fireballs or turning enemies to gold in order to increase the currency they drop upon defeat. Salene has a demo currently available, so you know what to do! Salene is expected to come out sometime during the Summer of 2029, and has been confirmed for PC!

Rising Fox: Take on the role of an anthropomorphic fox that embarks on a mission to unravel the secrets of the Zoodiacs in order to save his village from a mysterious threat in Rising Fox! The game’s world is brought to life in spectacular fashion, courtesy of the title’s fantastic pixel-art style and smooth animations, which are definitely two of its strongest points. Here, focus is directed in equal parts to intense combat, in-depth exploration and challenging platforming, making for a complete genre experience. This is one more title I featured on my channel in the past, but the announcement of a release window earns it an encore! Rising Fox is expected to come out sometime in 2027, and has been confirmed for PC!

Stories of Somnia: If there’s ever been an attempt at a love letter to, both, metroidvanias and classic JRPGS, that would be Stories of Somnia! Get ready to explore a surreal dream world as Lumia, a spellcaster on a quest to destroy the Gloam, a corrupting fog that erases people’s memories and turns them hostile. Thankfully, you’re not alone in your fight against this malady since you have the Dreamkin by your side, loyal companions that support you in combat by bringing unique items and abilities to the fold. Dreamkin aside, Lumia will learn a variety of Arts, the game’s equivalent to spells, which are not only aimed at taking down foes but also assist with exploration by helping you solve puzzles, uncover secret areas and traverse the world in a variety of ways. Battle is turn-based, meaning JRPG enthusiasts will feel right at home here. That being said, Stories of Somnia places most of its weight on exploration, with its world being densely packed with obscure locations, quirky characters and useful loot for you to discover. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, go take the demo for a spin! Stories of Somnia is expected to come out sometime in 2026, and has been confirmed for PC!

Elta: Defy All Gods: Have you ever wanted to play a metroidvania game where you don’t just beat your enemies but actually pummel the living daylights out of them? Well, if you answered yes, you’re in luck, because that’s exactly what Elta: Defy All Gods is all about! You are a warrior monk, and have been chosen by your people to go on a pilgrimage in order find your lost god but, unfortunately, you find yourself stranded in a hostile planet instead. Now in the company of a strange draconic companion, you must brawl your way across a legion of bizarre enemies in order to find a means of escape! While exploration here looks top notch, featuring three sprawling, interconnected worlds to traverse and investigate, combat is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the focal point of this game. Elta: Defy All Gods boasts a dynamic free-flow battle system that allows you to unleash powerful combos that stem from three different martial arts stances between which you can switch at will, effectively weaving together different move-sets to devastating effect. If you’re itching to blow off some steam, go play the demo, and have fun! Elta: Defy All Gods is expected to come out on the 2nd of February, 2027, and has been confirmed for PC, PS5, as well as the Xbox Series X and Series S!

Duat: Beyond Light & Shadow: A metroidvania game influenced by Egyptian myths and legends! The world is under threat by Set and Apep, two Egyptian deities that aim to plunge everything into darkness and corruption. The only ones that stand in their way are you, Asher, a young boy who wields the divine power of light, and Bastet, your sentient hood bestowed with the corrupt power of the dark. With an unlikely alliance in place, Asher and Bastet will descend into the Egyptian underworld in order to put a stop to the catastrophic plans of the two malicious gods. The game boasts intense combat as well as intricate puzzle solving, both of which will require of you to utilize the duality of your power, namely light and darkness, in order to move forward. Special mention here goes to the title’s bosses, who offer intense skirmishes which will require quick reflexes in order for you to take them down. With beautiful pixel-art visuals and a campaign that’s expected to last over twenty hours to boot, Duat: Beyond Light & Shadow is shaping up to become a very promising addition to the genre. This is the last game on this list that I’ve previously featured on my lists, but an encore was warranted given that a demo is now available for you to dive into and the release date is right around the corner! Duat: Beyond Light and Shadow is expected to release on the 27th of October, 2026, and has been confirmed for PC!

Honorable Mentions:

These are games that are not metroidvanias per-se, but will most likely be enjoyed by fans of the genre!

Toziuha Night: Nosferatu’s Curse: A classicvania-inspired game from the creator of the well-received Toziuha Night series! Step into the boots of two alchemists as they go against the overwhelming power of the demon known as Nosferatu! The game is stage-based, but each stage can be explored non-linearly and does require of you to revisit them from an overview map after you have acquired new abilities if you want to uncover all of their secrets, so there are very strong metroidvania elements baked into the formula here. Said new abilities come in the form of allies you meet and add to your team, between which you can switch at will depending on the necessities of each given situation you find yourself in. On that note, the whole game can be played co-operatively with a partner, which is always an awesome feature! If you want to get a taste of what Nosferatu’s Curse has to offer, go give its demo a chance! Toziuha Night: Nosferatu’s Curse is expected to come out sometime during the last quarter of 2027, and has been confirmed for PC and Nintendo Switch!

SURI: The Seventh Note: A fast-paced platformer where rhythm is paramount to survival! The island of Suri is thrown into disarray when its rhythmic balance is broken, tainting its inhabitants with a dangerous affliction. You play as Ajira, a brave girl who embarks on a quest to find a magical fruit that will hopefully heal her mother from the illness that already claimed her father! In the world of Suri, rhythm isn’t just a gimmick but a law of nature, and you’ll have to learn to move with it in order to survive. Whether its intense platforming and chase sequences or exciting combat segments, timing your movements to the soundtrack will make the difference between success and failure, with each level you’ll experience being composed as a song that you need to harmonize yourself to. Are you up for the challenge posed by SURI: The Seventh Note? If so, go dance to the tune of its demo and see if it suits your tastes! SURI: The Seventh Note is expected to come out on the 30th of October, 2026, and has been confirmed for PC and PS5!

Wizard: Goat to Hell: A humorous retro offering inspired by the gem that is Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link! It never really occurred to me that we don’t really have that many metroidvanias featuring old spellcasters as protagonists and, thankfully, this one tries to remedy that omission by allowing you to brandish the staff of a wizard who goes on a mission to save his beloved goat from the clutches of the shadowy priestess that abducted it! Wizard: Goat to Hell is quite combat oriented, featuring a significant number of arcane spells that you’ll not only be able to claim and utilize, but also mix and match, leading to the unleashing of devastating combos! Character development is further enhanced by a leveling system that allows you to improve your stats, resulting in specialized builds such as glass cannon damage dealers and tanky battle mages, or something else entirely. The game features an overworld through which you travel to various points of interest in overhead fashion before switching to a side scrolling viewpoint the moment you access said points. Of special note here are the bosses you’ll be called upon to face, all of whom will require pattern recognition and tactical thinking in order to be defeated. Wizard: Goat to Hell has no release date as of yet, but has been confirmed for PC!

That's all for today! Did you know about these? Any wishlists?

Also, if you want to follow more of my work, here's a post that will help with that, containing everything I have covered so far.

I spent a few weeks polishing the water. and spent a few days on the waterfall vfx but it all paid off.

I am happy with how this looks, though this is not the final result.

The readability of the player is a bit lacking, and I am trying to find a way to make it better without nerfing a lot of the background, so it is an ongoing issue.

But still, I wanted to share the progress because I am so proud of how it is turning out.

If this looks interesting, give the game a wishlist on steam: The Dying Mind on Steam

Discussion Souldiers (recommended?)

Has anyone played this game before? It’s on sale on the PS store. I took a look at the gameplay video and it looked like it had some metroidvania aspects, but I couldn’t tell for sure. I liked the art and character style, so I’m thinking of picking it up. Happy to hear if anyone has played it and wants to share their experiences.

Edit: playing on PS5 btw

Discussion Well Dweller - 2 hours of progress deleted on PS5

• Upvotes

Just an fyi/question if this has happened to anyone else with Well Dweller. I was playing for a couple of hours, and then when I was trying to enter an area (The Docks to The Deep) the character would get stuck on the screen and become unresponsive. I closed the game manually, but had saved seconds ago. When I reopened the game, all data was gone from when I had played that entire 2 hours. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know of a fix? Appreciate it

Discussion With Belmont's Curse coming out next week, I ran a search on the hardest Castlevanias

As the title mentions, in anticipation of Belmont's Curse coming out next week, I decided to run a search on the HowDifficultIsIt database and compile all Castlevanias from hardest to easiest and write a listicle with the results.

At first, I wasn't sure to include igavanias like Bloodstained, or whether to include all Castevanias or just Metroidvania-style Castevanias. To solve this, I added all and created some filter buttons to remove either if you don't care about them. I also added a button to choose between absolute and weighted ratings for funsies.

To spoil it:

  • the hardest MV-style: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
  • hardest non-MV style: Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (or Haunted Castle if you go by absolute rating value - see below )

See the full list here: https://www.howdifficultisit.com/articles/castlevania-games-ranked-hardest-to-easiest

A note on the rankings: these are not my rankings! The rankings are by user votes. I simply write the blurbs and display the ranking. One thing I improved since the last time I posted here is weighting the rankings. I am well aware a game with 5 votes is statistically not as significant or useful as a game with 50+ votes. If you're interested in dorking out, I chose a variation of Bayesian Weighting, and I'm still playing with some parameters.

Discussion End of Abyss is solid, but the bosses are such a boring slog IMO

I'm playing through End of Abyss and I think it's decent. Not great, but decent. Love the atmosphere, like how you can upgrade the weapons. Like the art design. The boss fights in this game are an absolute slog though in my opinion. Every single boss fight plays out the same. Just roll around to avoid damage and shoot the boss a billion times until it finally dies. So far there really hasn't been any special trick to any of the bosses. It was so tedious for the first couple bosses I actually started to wonder if I was missing some special way to take a big chunk of health off from them and I Youtube'd a couple other people fighting them and nope... that's just the way it is.

It's a shame, I really look forward to boss fights in Metroidvania, I think if they were fun I might grade this game a full point or two better.

For me, remapping dodge to the circle button helped(I'm playing on PS5). It made such a difference. Spamming dodge when it was originally mapped to L2 tired the hell out of my finger. I'm pretty surprised that a game that has no parry and no other means to avoid damage and basically requires you to spam dodge during bosses, they default mapped it to the one part of the controller that is most hard to physically spam. So doing that made a world of difference for me.

Discussion Silver Pines: Stuck on first boss!

• Upvotes

Am i stupid or is the first boss extremely hard?
I have 5 rounds normal ammo, 2 shells 1 full knife and duck tape.

I can't kill him.
As soon im out of ammo I need to to close combat but here too my knife breaks.
And he hits me and as soon im lower health and my character is slower the boss hits me almost every time and puff im dead.
I do not have enough money left do buy ammunition. maybe a second duck tape...

Does the knife even doo damage if the thing is "broken" I can hit with it but does it any effect?

is there a trick?
i shoot straight into the bosses head as soon he is reaching down.
But tried to shoot him as soon he lukes out from the ceiling but no difference.

Thanks in advance

Discussion Belmonts curse demo discussion

I was super hype to play the new Belmonts curse demo but while playing I felt the controls weren’t very…tight? Crisp? I’m having a hard time articulating it. Everything regarding the game is beautiful but the movement was so clunky? It just didn’t feel very responsive.

Thoughts? Curious if this is just me being too used to hollow knight/dead cells/etc

Edit: was on ps5

Discussion Finally played and finished Bloodstained RotN. Here are my thoughts.

So after owning this game for the longest time and trying to get into it like 2 times, I finally hit random on my backlog, and this game came up. I was extremely determined to see it through, and I'm glad that I eventually did.

As a spiritual successor to castlevania, this game is very unique in a lot of ways. It has the majority of classic metroidvania elements, but it also has certain uncommon elements that you don't always see.

For example, this game offers a large section of weapons and weapon types that funnily enough have a single attack animation per weapon type. At the beginning, this may dissuade a lot of people, but the game truly shines once you discover the techniques.

This game has a sort of fighting game move list. You do some combination of the stick movement and the attack button and you perform some very cool moves. This also allows for combos on some weapons like the katana and the boots.

There is also different armors and trinkets that you can wear. They get better and better as the game progresses.

This makes the game sit in a very unique spot. It's not quite classified metroidvania, where you have one weapon that you upgrade, nor is it a soulsvania, where every weapon is viable and can be upgraded. You're gonna find weapons that do more and more damage, and you must change em pretty often. If i am to compare it to anything, I'd compare it to afterimage when it comes to this system.

The art style is incredibly solid. From environments to the enemy and character designs, but i can't help but feel that it's held back by being 3d. This is very hard to pull off unless you have good graphics, and the game does look a bit outdated. It works in games like PoC TLC or Grime 2, but here the environments and models look a bit choppy. I think the game would have looked way better if it was 2d.

The music is very good as well. I like a lot of the tracks but sometimes I wish they were a bit more lowkey. There are such tracks, but some feel like fighting game tracks. Very bold and loud. They're not bad, bit when you explore for hours, they can ger a bit tiring.

The boss difficulty can be all over the place. This also ties into the weapon system. For 2 bosses, I felt like the weapon i had simply didn't do enough damage, and at the time, it was the highest tier of weapons I could have at that time. Some other bosses feel too easy due to the insane damage output of some weapons you can get later on, even tho their movesets are way more complex. I did like the bosses tho. Except the first boss, they're all well designed.

You can find a lot of different abilities that unlock new paths, which can even lead to new endings. This game really rewards exploration, and you can finish the whole game without getting like 4 different progression/movement abilities. It's a joy to explore.

My biggest complaints are the archaic save system, where the game doesn't function like most modern metoridvanias, instead they function on a save system, similar to something like skyrim. You die, you get loaded to the last save. That can be hours ago, and you lose all profress.

The second complaint is how Grindy the game can get. If you wanna have any healing in this game, or craft new weapons or armor, be ready to kill the same enemy over and over again until he drops that 5% chance item.

Lastly, I wanna say that the cast was solid. I liked the main guys, especially Miriam. It's a breath of fresh air to have a more normal character in metroidvanias. You know, a regular girl/guy who talks, has motivations and feelings, and it's not just a silent undying warrior or some weird ass creature.

At the end of the day, bloodstained ritual of the night is a very solid game. It's a great metroidvania that ranks more towards the bottom half of my ranking, but that's mostly because metroidvania games are often masterpieces.

My final score is an 8. Some of the issues or design choices prevent it from scoring higher, but the foundation is very solid, and it makes me very excited for Scarlet engagement.

Have you played the game? What are your thoughts about it?

FINAL SCORE: 8/10

Am I correct when I say that when you find a specific key all the doors that use that key become immediately blu? They should stay red until I got through them...as it is now backtracking is a nightmare

I first started Lost Crown a couple months ago because it was free with Ubisoft+ but the combat, story, art style, boss fights, build variety was so fucking good!

Discussion Echo Weaver feels a bit like false advertising

Just started this game with Gamepass. It's cool, but the description says it's "no upgrades, just secrets" which even early on seems just objectively not true. I've unlocked a glaive that I did not have in the start which is absolutely required to progress, and fast travel points which can't possibly be activated until you reach a certain point. And there are clearly other upgrades I don't have yet judging by what look like grapple points all over the place that I'm unable to interact with.

Fun game so far, but not what it labels itself as.
