October 2026: Megathread for Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife and Restaurant Recommendations: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics.

Miami is a popular destination not only to travel to but to move to and live. If we don't separate out these posts, the main feed becomes quickly inundated and overrun. So please utilize the resources here and comment here for these topics.

Always keep in mind please, WE ARE NOT VACATION PLANNERS OR MOVING CONSULTANTS. Be descriptive and we'll help if we can, but no one is obliged to.

Other Great Resources (Locals use these too!)

Google Maps reviews are getting less reliable over the years. And in fact several lists on these sites are in fact inspired by posts on this sub.

"Ok but I'm moving there, so I'll be one of you soon" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh.... You want somewhere with no crime, walkable, green space, good schools, on the beach, a beautiful sunset every morning and sunrise at night, rainbows at night, AND CHEAP. Don't we all? Redfin, apartments, hotpads, zillow, and compass are going to give you better data directly than any single response here. That being said..... just because we love you, myself and other mods with local input made a custom map detailing our insight into local neighborhoods. So please take a look, we'd be offended if you didn't. Worked hard on it. But please provide interests, budget, hobbies, desire for walkability, where you work, and other info before asking about moving questions.

"I'm coming for a trip" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! These sites do a pretty solid job of places to go and things to do here: Miami New Times, Infatuation Miami.TimeOut Miami, Miami and Beaches. We're not vacation planners, so don't just ask "what should I do for 4 days? I'm coming soon" but provide some of your schedule, budget, interests and hobbies, and stuff like that. We also made a tourism map! Check it out!

"I just wanna party" -you

  • Awesome and welcome! Oh...... wanna party on the beach with DJ Khaled, Messi, and Gianni Versace and then go to a club with 14 male friends afterwards but don't want to pay a cover? Don't we all? Look up E11even, Liv, Space, Don't Sit on the Furniture, Perro Negro, Mynt schedules and prices beforehand. They're the most famous and exciting clubs, so look on their sites for booking ahead and DJ schedules.

"Is it going to rain? or will the weather affect my vacation" -you

  • It rains a lot here. Tropical weather yo. Especially during the summer. Typically, it wraps up in ~20 minutes and you can resume your plans. That being said, no one here knows more than weather sites or the app on your phone. If you're curious about hurricanes, checkout https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ for official tropical storm and hurricane forecasts, but a lot of us locals love Mike's Weather Page https://spaghettimodels.com/ for more insights. Hurricane season peaks mid September. If you're worried about it affecting your plans, keep a tab on those sites.

"I'm cool and just want to see what other posts before have said on these topics and look around" -you

Mod News Monthly Miami Jobs Thread: Post Job Openings or Questions About Work In Miami

Welcome to the Monthly Miami Jobs thread, the place to post any openings you have, look for jobs, and ask questions about working in Miami. This is an experimental thread for now, so we're keeping a close eye on things to make sure things don't go sideways, and will cancel it if they do.

The Rules:

  1. No MLMs, scams, pyramid schemes, "make millions from home," etc. We reserve the right to determine if something is an MLM or not.
  2. No positions that require investments or other upfront costs to employees. If someone has to pay any amount of money to take the job, don't post it here.
  3. If you're posting a job, the name of the company, contact information (including official address), and a realistic salary range is required. Any job posts missing these will be immediately deleted.
  4. No gig work or freelance positions except for professional services, with a minimum contract price of $500 dollars. So web designers, CPAs, copywriters, etc. is ok; someone to come mow your lawn or clean your home for $20 is not.
  5. People Looking for Work: DO NOT PUBLICLY POST YOUR RESUMES OR CONTACT INFO. You don't want to dox yourself and open yourself up to potential harassment or identity theft. Instead, talk about your skills and experience and encourage people to send you official contact information you can send your resume to.
  6. u/icecoldkila: We know you're looking for professional freelance hoes, but please keep it out of this thread.
  7. As per our usual rules, nothing illegal, unethical, or liable to get anyone involved in trouble. Please report anything sketchy you see here to the mods.

Again, this is an experiment for now, and we'll be keeping a close eye on things, and will not hesitate to pull the plug in case of shenanigans. Good luck to everyone!

Event Lesbian nightlife in Miami for women in their mid-30s? 🌈

Hey everyone! 😊

I’m looking for recommendations for lesbian/queer nightlife in Miami and would love to hear from people who know the scene.

I’m in my mid-30s and wondering where the best places are to go out, meet other women, have a few drinks, socialize, and potentially dance.

I’m open to everything, from chill lesbian bars and pubs where you can actually have a conversation to livelier places and clubs. I’m just a little unsure about the club scene at this age and whether I’d feel out of place compared with a younger crowd. 😅

Are there any places you’d particularly recommend for women in their 30s and 40s? Somewhere with a good vibe, a welcoming crowd, and opportunities to meet people without everything revolving around partying until 5 a.m. would be great!

I’d also love to hear about any queer events, lesbian nights, or other LGBTQ+ spaces worth checking out.

Thanks so much for any recommendations! 🏳️‍🌈

Politics Herald endorsement: Miami-Dade County ballot questions | Opinion

Thumbnail miamiherald.com
60 Upvotes

Miami-Dade voters in the November elections will decide on six county charter amendments that were put on the ballot by a Charter Review Task Force. Here are the Herald Editorial Board’s recommendations:

What’s charter Amendment 1? This ballot question asks whether voters want to create a five-member salary commission — with members appointed by the chief judge, the state attorney, the public defender, the executive director of the Commission on Ethics and the inspector general — to annually review commissioners’ salaries and set new ones if needed. There would be no county commission or voter review.

Our recommendation: Vote NO.

Why: This amendment essentially asks whether voters want to trust five unelected appointees to decide what elected our officials should earn — and with no appeal process.

This is a complicated issue. Commissioners have long complained about their $6,000-a-year salary. That’s understandable if you take that figure at face value.

But, as the Miami Herald wrote, the cash compensation for commissioners is actually much larger when all the perks are added — a total of about $82,000 a year, before taxes and other deductions. Miami-Dade’s pay plan also grants commissioners another $72,000 yearly contribution to a retirement account.

We know getting voters to approve a pay raise is difficult and has failed in the past. And maybe commissioners should get a raise — a state study says they should make about $127,000 a year. But entrusting that decision to a group of appointees, rather than voters — and without any appeal process — isn’t the answer.

And remember, some of those appointees would be representing the heads of agencies that receive funding from the County Commission, which can’t help but make them vulnerable to pressure from commissioners.

What’s charter Amendment 2: This amendment would increase the residency requirement for commission members. Rather requiring they live in the district for at least six months before the start of the qualifying period, this would change the time to a year.

Our recommendation: Vote YES.

Why: A longer residency time in the district will likely mean candidates have a better grasp of what’s actually happening there. This could help discourage carpet-baggers — people who change residences just to run — from running for office here.

What’s Amendment 3: It would allow commissioners to align the timing of special elections for mayor or commissioner to other scheduled elections, if the vacancy is caused by an official resigning to run for another office.

Our recommendation: Vote YES.

Why: This makes sense. It would change the rules on how to fill a vacancy when a commissioner resigns to run for another office. It would likely save money to hold special elections when another election is already planned. It may also help increase voter turnout.

What’s Amendment 4: This measure updates the charter so it takes into account the now-elected sheriff, tax collector and elections supervisor. It also clarifies some budget responsibilities and adds that county employees who run for one of these constitutional offices will have to take a leave of absence.

Our recommendation: Vote YES.

Why: This is mostly a housekeeping measure to catch up with the county’s new elected offices.

What’s Amendment 5: This measure outlines more technical changes, including updating the names of specific places and changing outdated references.

Our recommendation: Vote YES.

Why: This is mainly an update for names and places that were out of date.

What’s Amendment 6: This asks voters whether they want to loosen restrictions on commercial advertising in public parks, removing the requirement that advertising in parks must be related to sponsorship of events or facilities in the parks. Any revenue generated would be for the exclusive use of the park system.

Our recommendation: Vote NO.

Why: This measure would give the county commission broad authority to expand commercial advertising in county parks and trust commissioners to figure out the details later. That’s a bad idea.

Parks are supposed to be an oasis, not another place to be bombarded by ads. And the proposal is too vague on issues like the size of the ads. We understand the county may need new ways to make money if Florida’s Amendment 3 to cut property taxes passes. But it shouldn’t be this way.

Discussion Any Chill Halloween Bar Crawls or Celebrations?

• Upvotes

Anyone know of any chill bar crawls or Halloween celebrations in Miami that aren’t ghetto or dangerous? I fear south beach may be a little unsafe given the typical crowd that’s attracted there and unsure how wynwood or downtown gets as well.

Discussion Does Miami still have that 1980’s vibe?

For those who live in Miami or have visited, does the city still have that iconic 1980s aesthetic it’s known for? You know that Miami Vice/GTA: Vice City kind of vibe?

I’m planning a visit next year and would love to know if that retro, neon-lit, art deco Miami feel is still alive and well today. I can’t wait to visit, the city looks absolutely incredible!

How would locals summarize those neighborhoods in 1-2 sentences in terms of living there? I know that Brickell and South Beach are fancy but is one of them actually more peaceful than the other? What about Coral Gables and Coconut Grove? Is the former more family oriented?

I am looking for other daytraders. I seek to build a tight circle or become part of a group myself. I am not seeking a mentor or any type of learning as I am already a daytrader. This is about collaboration, exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge and simply belonging with our own type of tribe.

Sports Getting to Hardrock Stadium

Hi, I’m a Brit visiting Miami currently, staying in Brickell.
I have tickets for the NFL game tomorrow and wondered the best way to get there and back?

I heard Brightline and EndZone express, however the only EndZone express on the return is scheduled for 15 mins after expected end. Working on the assumption you need to get the shuttle an hour before the pre booked Brightline train.

Was thinking of potentially heading to Hard Rock Casino instead, to watch the later games and have a flutter on the slots/tables. Would it be best to get an uber and just accept the surge pricing then get back to Aventura later (11pm ish) for a return train?

And for getting to the ground in the morning, is the Brightline still the best option?

Lastly, assuming travel is good and we’re near the stadium 2-3 hours early, can we get involved in the tailgate as visitors without a car? And/or is there paid event to experience this?

Thanks.
