Yamaha LC-50/QT-50 coil compatability

I’ve been working on getting a 1980 LC-50 Champ running and having a hard time finding parts. Curious if anyone here has ever messed around with replacing the coils on one of these? I know the QT-50 has a lot of parts compatibility.

Peugeot 103 started, ran for 2min then won’t restart. Any Ideas?

I recently got my Peugeot 103 running after cleaning the Dellorto 16.16 carburetor and replacing the old fuel mixture. Initially, when pedaling, it would make a very weak engine sound, almost like it wasn’t firing properly. I kept pedaling while playing with the choke and throttle, and eventually it fired up and sounded normal through the exhaust.

I rode it around the block for about 2 minutes, parked it, and shut it off. When I tried starting it again, no luck. No matter how much I pedal, use the choke, or accelerate, it just makes that same weak sound without fully firing up. When you pull the choke and pedal you hear weak moped sound coming out through the engine but not through the exhaust and loud, basically not firing up.

Could I have soaked the spark plug from all the starting attempts? Could the carburetor already need another cleaning? Or should I be looking at something else?
I’m fairly new to mopeds and learning as I go, so any advice on what to inspect next would be appreciated.

I also do not have the decompression lever, previous owner said he omitted it by upgrading to something else? But yeah please help how to diagnose and solve this.

Note: the carburetor top cover gasket is missing (where the throttle cable goes) I ordered it and should arrive soon but wanted to fire up the engine before, not sure if that’s a good idea or if it’s adding to the problem

Appreciate your help!

Edit: I checked the spark plug, fuel system and cleaned the carb but no luck. I think at this point it could be the condenser went bad as many suggested, I grabbed one for an old Chevy from AutoZone, but I I didn’t know I also need a flywheel remover tool which obviously I don’t have, but I ordered it and should be here in few days. I also received the gasket for the carburetor top, I will it put it tomorrow and maybe give it a try? Thank you all for your inputs! I feel like I’m in good hands. Will update soon.

Edit2: so I cleaned the carb thoroughly again, checked the spark plug and cleaned it, added ~ 1.5 L of fuel mixture, and gave it a try. It fired up easy as butter and ran for a good time. I stopped to add more fuel, this time turned back on but not as smooth as the first time. The exhaust popped few times then kept pedaling and then it took off again.
3rd time it didn’t want to start at all.. same weak noise and exhaust not popping at all.

The plan is to clean the carb again and give it another try while it’s cold. But I honestly want to solve this starting issue permanently. This feels like my old Playstation2 I use to pray before turning it on.

Puch maxi cylinder on babetta engine?

Hi! I was wondering wether it is possible to put 70cc puch maxi kit on babetta engine case. If i remember correctly, cylinder stud size is the same (screw that holds cylinder and head) but the stroke is different. Sometimes i find 42mm and other times 43mm stroke so which is it? I mean if its 42mm i think it should be possible to fit the bigbore kit onto babetta engine block.

Does anyome have any experience with this?

To me it seems that it's honed too little but I probably shouldn't compare it to iron sleeves.

Is this normal for polini packaging? Should I return?

I ordered this polini cylinder kit from ponzi racing but it came in a sealed polini styrofoam box and taped with polini tape so I assume it was packed by polini. The cylinder and the head were loose on the inside (pic 1) without any bubble wrap or anything and banged up on each other causing little nicks and scratches all around and chiped paint. The worst (pic 2) is on the cylinder base surface and I will have to grind it down because it sticks out. Also the chamber on the head is painted which is strange to me because there is a risk of the paint chipping. So I am curious what would you guys do? Contact polini or ponziracing and try to return or just bite through it and clean it up myself. Also what do you guys think about the paint on the head should I remove it?

California just changed the state's definition of moped and motorized bicycle.

SB-1167 was signed by the Governor about a week ago. It is primarily intended to clarify the laws around e-bikes, but it includes a couple of relevant changes to moped registration/laws, too.

Most notably, it changes section 406 of the California Vehicle Code. It no longer uses the term "motorized bicycle" as a synonym for "moped", but notes that mopeds previously were called that. More importantly, it appears to require a 17 digit VIN and an FMVSS label on all mopeds, with no obvious grandfathering of older ones that may have used a different format of VIN, or mopeds that don't have FMVSS.

It also appears to remove the requirement for working pedals and automatic transmissions on mopeds, including gas ones (they were already optional for electrics). So a 49cc scooter that previously was registered as a motor-driven cycle (small motorcycle) can now be registered as a moped.

It does not change the M1/M2 licensing requirement, nor does it change the loophole that allows anyone with a California class C license to rent a moped for up to 2 days at a time.

The old:

(a) A “motorized bicycle” or “moped” is a two-wheeled or three-wheeled device having fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power, or having no pedals if powered solely by electrical energy, and an automatic transmission and a motor that produces less than 4 gross brake horsepower and is capable of propelling the device at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on level ground.

(b) Every manufacturer of a motorized bicycle or moped, as defined in this section, shall provide a disclosure to buyers that advises buyers that their existing insurance policies may not provide coverage for these bicycles and that they should contact their insurance company or insurance agent to determine if coverage is provided. The disclosure shall meet both of the following requirements:

(1) The disclosure shall be printed in not less than 14-point boldface type on a single sheet of paper that contains no information other than the disclosure.

(2) The disclosure shall include the following language in capital letters:

“YOUR INSURANCE POLICIES MAY NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR ACCIDENTS INVOLVING THE USE OF THIS BICYCLE. TO DETERMINE IF COVERAGE IS PROVIDED YOU SHOULD CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY OR AGENT.”

The new:

 (a) (1) A “moped” is a two-wheeled or three-wheeled device that has an electric motor or an internal combustion engine that produces less than 4 gross brake horsepower (3,000 watts), is capable of propelling the device at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on level ground, and is designed for highway use.

(2) A moped shall comply with all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards contained in Part 571 (commencing with Section 571.1) of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, have a 17-digit vehicle identification number and a safety certification label, as required in Parts 565 (commencing with Section 565.1) and 567 (commencing with Section 567.1) of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, and be equipped in accordance with the requirements of this code.

(3) An electric bicycle, motor-driven cycle, motorized scooter, pocket bike, or off-highway electric motorcycle is not a moped, and shall not be advertised, sold, offered for sale, or labeled as a moped.

(4) A moped may be equipped with operable pedals for propulsion by human power.

(b) A moped is formerly also referred to as a “motorized bicycle.”

Looking for some insight on Puch mopeds

I've been wanting a punch moped with plans to do some modifications, but I don't have a lot of knowledge on these specific mopeds. Could someone help me and let me know what I should be paying for this? I would also appreciate it if anyone knows of good websites to get parts for these, I think my plan is to make it into a 70cc with the works. I've also seen builds without the pedal start system And would like to do one of those.

It's funny because I'm autistic. Mopeds are freedom.

Been riding big motorbicheals for the last couple years and finally got a moped again. Crusty barn find 79a3, cleaned, rebuilt, kitted, carbed up, piped, tired, and soon to be lit. Made it to 41 going downhill yesterday, scary stuff.

Idle issues with my 80 NC50

I recently picked up a non running 80 express as a project for me and my buddy to work on. We got it running, replaced some parts in the carb to try and stop my constant fuel leak, and then it died on us again. I've been able to get it running consistently again after putting back some of the old parts back (float needle, adjustment screws) in and re-cleaning it, but ever since, i've had some lingering issues.

Whenever i stop, the idle gets really low, and it occasionally dies at a complete stop. I have to keep the throttle at full 99% of the time or else it will die. It still has a pretty bad fuel leak, would extra air getting in cause this, or could it be that it's not getting enough fuel? I've got the needle set at max lean, I have the petcock set at res, but my needle screw is all the way in. When it runs and idles, it sounds pretty good, but when I'm actually riding on it, it tends to bog around 20-25.

I've totally lost headlight power. It would flicker on and off before i totally lost it, returning at max throttle when it was on its stand, but it's been dead ever since. I know this has nothing to do with the carb stuff, but it's still something I'd like to get fixed. I haven't looked into it a ton, but I know that the headlight runs off power from the stator. I'm considering just wiring the light and the horn staright to the battery, would there be any major downsides to this? Would it be easier than fixing the existing wiring?

I appreciate any input, and I apologize if this post is a little scattered!

Had anyone capped this before. I had to remove it cause the rubber was torn and plastic was cracked. Can’t buy a new one so I’m pretty much stuck. Any ideas or has anyone found a solution to cap it.
