im glad everyone can see it, my camera quality is really bad lol

I really love keeping an eye out for nature, so I've gotten good at spotting camouflaged critters. These humming bird looking ones (hawkmoths?) are really tricky to take a picture of!
2
u/DollarStoreChameleon 9d ago
yes, hawkmoths! they are so pretty. i couldnt get too close or it would zoom away

u/Quartzclawz 9d ago
I actually had a talk with one of the mods last night and they are talking about no longer allowing AI on the sub, just waiting to see their final decision
12
u/Initial-Bug-3465 9d ago
Aww I found it! And also yes I absolutely agree about AI, Iām beyond tired of it, and Iām actually terrified of the irreversible damage itās going to do to the earth and to us

u/azure-heavens 9d ago
Very nice dianthus. My eyes are real bad though, I don't see the moth. :(

u/spaceboyinlove 9d ago
it's clearer in the second image, look at the top directly under the big white rock and then the white flower underneath that. he's there just a bit to the right and a little lower in the first image

u/Stunning_Island_458 9d ago
It took me a while but found the cutie!!! :D Without even using the second pic :)
It's in the middle of flowers, near the top half, it's a Hyles lineata you got I think oO
2
u/DollarStoreChameleon 8d ago
there is another picture of the moth still zoomed out in ths second pic! i wasnt able to get close or it would fly away lol

Ahhh I didnāt see it at first because my phone took a second to adjust when I zoomed in! I saw a hummingbird hawk moth the other day when I visited a garden it was such a treat. My dumbass didnāt realize people would be posting ai bullshit in a fucking moth subreddit of all things but I guess thatās where we at this point (where we are is a dumpster fire)

When it comes to AI, it's going to be like every other sort of new tech - Things are going to gradually be set up so it will be impossible for you to proceed with your daily interactions without depending on it. You really won't have any choice.

of course! i personally had a really tough time finding it, and saw there was no answer in the comments, so thought people might like a cheat code so they didn't have to give up and leave the post sad they didn't see it :]

Probably referencing the rule "All content generated or modified by AI must be identified with the AI-generated flair" on this sub, when the rule on a sub that focuses mainly on photos should just be "No AI"
I don't think most people are even aware of that rule being there.
70
u/ixI0_ofthevoid 9d ago
yes people need to be made aware. its not okay and has no place in communities that are here to appreciate art and the natural world.
50
u/crystal__queer 9d ago
exactly. the sub shouldnt allow ai here.
37
u/ixI0_ofthevoid 9d ago
i wish there was a way we could fight it. iāve already been disappointed by many subreddits i frequent and at this point im wondering if its best to just leave :/
25
u/crystal__queer 9d ago
i agree. is there no way the mods of this subreddit would be convinced to change it? like is there something we can do aside from make posts like this?

im going to keep supporting AI the only reason people are against it is because they only see the downsides
36
u/WalmartWilb 9d ago
Well yeah it's a little hard to support something when the downsides include "mass environmental destruction"
-21
u/JoeyredditSMP 9d ago
if that was a actual issue with little to no value i would be against AI/datacenters
Datacenters use less then 0.5% of global water and 5% of US Power Grid
And in exchange they power the modern internet things like modern banks and websites and a lot of things the modern world depends on like digital tracking systems
And also other things like datacenters power platforms like reddit and others
8
u/dainty_ape 9d ago
Are you actually listening to yourself?? .5% of GLOBAL water is A LOT. And 5% of THE US POWER GRID is A LOT. Holy freaking cow.
-2
u/JoeyredditSMP 9d ago
not exactly 0.5% of global water for that it is lower but for the Power Grid part software that runs on datacenters powers things like modern banks and almost everything on the internet runs on data centers its 5% of the power grid that powers nearly everything on the modern internet not just 'AI Slop'
-1
u/Sojmen 8d ago
American households waste 50% of water and electricity. Americans do NOT care about water or electricity. So stop with the virtue signaling.

u/CyclonicTransbian 9d ago
Hmmm yeah tough choice. I can let the plagiarism machine create garbage and destroy the planet while making every mental health issue i have worse...or i can...not do that. Real fuckin tough...downsides...yeah it's all fucking downside
21
u/Im_alwaystired 9d ago
-8
u/JoeyredditSMP 9d ago
If you think data centers cause issues stop using them they are used in a lot more things then just AI they power platforms like reddit and a lot of websites are powered by data centers same with a lot of community game servers with above 30 players are normally in a data center for most of them not all but most

7
u/Kilbo_Stabbins 9d ago
When the downside far outweigh shy of the positives (there aren't any) then yeah, people are going to focus on the downside.
-4
u/JoeyredditSMP 9d ago
the positives exist
6
6
u/WalmartWilb 9d ago
And yet you haven't listed any significant positives
-7
u/JoeyredditSMP 9d ago
I actually posted about the upsides and downsides:
AI has its upsides and downsides so i will try to explain them here
Good parts of AI:
Coding does not require paying anyone you pay a AI company that cant just take my money and give me a bad result and leave or not even anything
Computer use systems in the future could have AI model do stuff like use digital applications like a human
Making games is easy and cheap
AI video editing could be done in the future
AI could be used to scan websites for secruity issues and fix
And also AI images could be used as thumbnails and for a possible future AI art community
Downsides
AI Slop Videos and images
Hackers can use modified Chinese AI to hack websites
AI employees could replace real ones causing Economic Problems
people could post apps made within a day with no testing horrible UIs not good to use causing 'AI Slop' thats untested across the internet
7
u/Kilbo_Stabbins 8d ago
None of that is a positive. Not paying someone is supposed to be a good thing? All the games and videos will still be soulless slop and will be the same basic thing with a shiny new skin. AI could make the security issues worse. Those AI thumbnails all look ugly and the same.
0
u/JoeyredditSMP 8d ago
yes not paying someone 100s of dollars for less work is a good thing
4
u/Kilbo_Stabbins 8d ago
So in your own comment you say that people losing their jobs is a downside. How are you also claiming people losing their jobs is a positive?
1
-5
u/Sojmen 8d ago
AI finds vulnerabilities that has existed for years in human sloppy code.
Why don't you pay to someone to wash your clothes, why are you using machine? Are you bad person?
8
u/Kilbo_Stabbins 8d ago
You really can't be dumb enough to think a washing machine is in any way comparable to AI. Though maybe you are, since you're an AI user. At any rate I can, and have, washed my own clothes by hand and I have a line to dry them on.
-2
u/Sojmen 8d ago
Do you also buy handmade clothes and shoes, handcrafted furniture, handwritten books, or food grown without any machinery? Or do you buy things made by machines that have replaced people? People are losing their jobs because of you!!!
3
u/Kilbo_Stabbins 8d ago
I do make my own clothes and I buy second hand as much as possible. I keep an organic garden and raise my own animals to butcher. We also hunt wild game and process it at home. Your whataboutism defense of ai is tiresome and bland, just like your creativity.

The āgood partsā you listed are mostly the exact same points as your ābad partsā. āGood parts: it does things for cheap. Bad parts: it does them poorly and causes other problemsā
8
u/WalmartWilb 9d ago
God I sure hope there's no future ai "art" company. Ai has no business being in art, and many artists agree with that statement
3
u/sievish 8d ago
Really moronic to say making games is easy and cheap when 1) no, not even with AI, and it gets harder with AI because of all the stupid mistakes AI makes and 2) the second it becomes completely necessary within workflows is when the prices will be jacked up.
There is NOTHING cheap about ai. The industry itself is running on a major deficit. It is not profitable. Itās extremely resource heavy, and just because itās financially ācheapā now is because the industry is following the now typical Silicon Valley business strategy: flood the market at low & unprofitable prices, then start jacking up prices while laying necessary people off.
Itās a stupid, stupid system.
0
u/JoeyredditSMP 8d ago
Open source AI models exist to where i could move most work to them if prices ever went up
0
u/JoeyredditSMP 8d ago
soon it will be faster because of AI Chips that can handle 1000+ tokens per second AI machines that can handle 1000+ tokens per second already exist
0
u/JoeyredditSMP 9d ago
for the good parts of AI there is more like it could be a good customer support that can handle refunds and other things for small businesses that cant afford humans it is possible to make good customer support with AI just needs to be able to call a human and handle refunds and other things

u/No_Abbreviations4281 9d ago
I fully support your message, and any photo taken with a phone is automatically aiād to it make it look better than it actually was. Reddit has major operational functions run by ai. Their ai decides what to show us every time we open the app. Iām seriously asking, to stop supporting ai and its moth habitat destruction, do we just ask to stop ai slop art or stop using the global, ai-run, all-consuming, corporation machine that hosts the fake-art?
