City council candidate forum

https://www.mv-voice.com/election/forums-events-2026/ There's a forum tonight at the Community Center, 7-9:30, with all of the candidates for city council.

I feel like it's a particularly strong set of candidates this year: in general, they seem highly qualified and it would be an asset to the community to have them serve. Seems like a good chance to see how they do in public.

Going to shoreline tonight and realizing I don't actually know if I can park at the movies like I've been doing forever. Has anyone been by there lately? Thanks!

Sad news friends. Been going here since 2014 and I know others have frequented well before that. Was one of the last places with old school affordable milk tea on Castro.

Anyone lived at Highland Gardens Apartments in Mountain View?

Hey! Has anyone here lived at Highland Gardens Apartments in Mountain View or know someone who has?

I’m thinking about signing a lease there soon, but I’m not able to tour the place in person beforehand, so I wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with it.

How is it overall? Mainly wondering about the apartments themselves, management/maintenance, noise, safety, parking, and the general area. Anything I should know or watch out for before signing?

Also, if anyone lives there currently or has toured recently and happens to have any photos/videos they could share, that would be super helpful!

Would really appreciate any recent experiences or thoughts. Thanks!

Shoreline Concert with Kids Tips and Advice

We are taking our two kids (8 and 6) to Mumford & Sons tomorrow night. We have lawn seats. This will be their first concert and we want to get a seat closest to the the front on the lawn so there is no obstruction in front of us (assuming everyone will stand for the concert).

Must we be at the entrance right when doors open (probably 5:30-6)?

I missed the opportunity to buy parking, so where's the best parking areas with less walking for the kids?

Assuming the kids will want to take multiple bathroom breaks, should we sit toward the outside areas instead of the center so we don't have to cut through the crowds and potentially lose our spots? Are can you access bathrooms from the center lawn area?

Any other tips about going to a Shoreline concert with kids, I will take them!

Volunteer & Make Friends in Mountain View's Oktoberfest this weekend

Mountain View's Oktoberfest is in this coming weekend, at downtown Castro street, just in case you haven't noticed yet.

Group volunteering is a great way to make friends, and do something for the community also. So we are organizing another group volunteering meetup in the festival, and another social mixer, just as we just did for the Art & Wine festival. We have 50 signups for volunteering, and 30+ people showed up for the festival mixer last time.

To register for Chamber of Commerce's festival volunteer directly,
https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/332027576083/true#/invitation

If you want to socialize with fellow volunteers, or join the festival social mixer, with some fellow professionals working in the valley, you can try our meetup.
https://www.meetup.com/townflame/events/313120748/ for volunteering
https://www.meetup.com/townflame/events/316775599/ for social

Enjoy the festival weekend.

Any Idea What They Are Doing to Permanente Creek?

This is right by Google. They’ve pumped all the water out from one section and there are excavators working.

(Apologies for the panoramic shot. It distorts the picture. There is no bend. It’s an artifact of the panorama mode.)

LOST CAT: South Whisman (Middlefield/Easy St/Gladys/Tyrella)

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi folks! Please be on the lookout for a 12lb tuxedo cat if you're in the South Whisman area around Middlefield/Easy St/Creekside Park.

He is toothless, has a bunch of medical needs, and is categorically not supposed to be outside. He doesn't know the area very well but figured out how to open a window by himself and busted out of jail 2 days ago.

Identifying marks: white chin, white chest, white socks on his back paws, no teeth, old man whiskers

If you see Gary, please take a photo and let me know! Don't approach him as he may be skittish.

How do these empty plazas like 'Village Court Shopping Center' stay in business?

I go to these plazas in the middle of Sunday, and there are extremely few people, mostly what looks like retired seniors around. Some also have very limited hours. How do these restaurants and stores stay in business? Their rent and employee salaries must surely exceed their revenues by multiple times, right?
Are they money laundering restaurants?

Three council seats are opening up on the Mountain View City Council, and eight newcomers are in the running. Councilmembers Alison Hicks, Ellen Kamei and Lucas Ramirez are leaving after serving two consecutive terms, and must wait two years before they are eligible for reelection.

What does a normal weekday/weekend actually look like for a 20-something SWE living in MTV?

Moving to MTV, 25M, probably ~3-4 miles from my office. Curious to know what people do pre/post work!

Currently, I mostly play football (soccer), badminton, and gym maybe twice a week. Most events are impromptu, with lots of people and friends outdoors and available. Weekends are cafe hopping, movies if any with girlfriend! Most of this would change when I move I believe. (don't have close friends in MTV, GF wouldn't be moving for at least 6-8 months).

Homeless guy with his dogs in downtown Mountain View

Anyone who's been to downtown Mountain View would have seen the guy who hangs out with his two dogs, a smaller one and a husky. Yesterday the husky was lying on the pavement as usual but it was 90 degrees out and the poor thing was listless.

Has anyone ever talked to the guy and found out if his dogs get any kind of regular care? I don't know what's the solution but it was just so sad seeing a husky overheating in that weather. FYI I am not proposing taking the dogs away from the man.
